In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Dr. Velumani Arokiaswamy in Conversation with Raj Shamani. He is the founder of Thyrocare, India’s leading clinical laboratory. It has 7000+ centers all over India. But this conversation is not just about Thyrocare but about a person who was born poor but ended up building a billion-dollar company and exited it with a 5000 crore cheque.
In this episode, we talked about how he became the leader of his family at the age of 10. How he started earning at the age of 11 to how he went to a college and chose Bcom over BSc to save money, how his teacher funded his BSc, how he got rejected from 50 companies after his graduation and how he came to Mumbai with 500 rupees, slept on the railway station for 3 days until he got selected in BARC. His journey and stories between these struggles and wins will motivate you to the core. We talked about how his father-in-law persuaded him to marry his daughter and how his wife became his first employee at Thyrocare. He shared the story of building thyrocare.
Towards the end, we talked about business and entrepreneurship and he gave tons of advice and tips for entrepreneurs. He also shared why he exited his company and his life post the exit. We ended our conversation by talking about industries that have a huge scope in the coming days. This conversation was one of a kind with constant punchlines and learnings shared by Dr. Velumani. Best line for me and many young Indians was " Poverty gives you the power to take fast decisions" 💪
💯
I have worked for 3 years in Thyrocare
They hired me as a fresher, I am very proud of you Sir
Do they hire freshers now?
Dear I left Thyrocare in 2019 and sir also sold his company, hence don't have any idea.
What was your salary there?
Since I was fresher they offered me LPA 2.8
Lpa 2.8 means?
I am also a 68 yrs old young man.Rebuilt my 34 yrs old business at the age of 63.But i have learnt alot after watching this podcast. This interview will inspire many new comers in near future. Also i Salute Dr.Velumani sir for his courage and his punch lines.
You are not 68 years old young man but you are 68 years young man
"Jeena tha toh Coimbatore mein bhi jee sakta tha par Mumbai aya toh jeetna hai" ek filmy dialogue hai yeh toh lekin bohat zabardast motivation. Very inspiring journey
Please don't take veluji seriously...treat him like a joker only. What he says will entertain you...you will neither nor get any help as entrepreneur. For that you should have a turn over of 10 cr
Bhai sahab, itna maza to movie dekh kr bhi nhi ata hai, jitna is podcast se aya, inke upar movie banni chahiye❤
Right😊
Exactly
Tru
That’s True !
Rajnikanth should play his role
My favorite punch line is
1. Keeping the price low
2. Let your competitors do marketing for you
3. You can never take decision when you discuss be independent and take decision alone.
4. Freedom is the biggest blessing.
5. Fortunately born poor
6. Take risk when you feel you have nothing to lose. ( Count this as blessings)
7. When his wife said "i want to be the greatest person of a struggling family rather then a mediocre person of a established family"
8. Hire more freshers and train them by your self it's better then hiring experienced persons.
And on the lighter note
"Everyone wants an experienced employee but no one wants an experienced wife 😂😂" very Halirous ☺️☺️
Thanks to u too bhai .. 😁
Thankyou for summarizing
Idea's are like sperms ,in millions only one works😂
good one
You missed one punch line.. For a successful man, wife becomes secretary. And for failed man, secretary becomes wife
AAYA TO PAHAD, GAYA TO BAAL was inspiring...❤❤
Waoo, this is the first time i saw this man's face, and the impression he has left on my mind is that he is beyond genius... he has shaken my veins... Their is a punchline pa punchline.
"He is one of a kind of a man, who you begin to love in the first impression.
Waooo
Why does our schools not teach about this person..
Such a fantastic person with vast knowledge❤
teachers ko itni knowledge ni hoti simple
Our education system will teach how to be educated labor
Unko Akbar ke bare me aur Taj Mahal kisne banaya Jo Parana hai
His sense of Humour is too high 👌👌👌
Here are some key lessons from the podcast:
1) Avoid complaining about your situation; always take responsibility for your life.
2) Take risks in life, but calculate them properly.
3) Never fear to upgrade yourself.
4) A product of better quality and lower cost can go viral with minimal marketing.
5) The value of giving exceeds that of taking.
This podcast reflects on the importance of continuous self-improvement in life
We make such insightful podcast summaries in our channel .
thank you
The way he acknowledges Dr. Kartikeyan and says " Agar woh nahi hota to main aaj Raj Shamani ke samne baitha nahi hota " is the epic moment of this interview. Simple line but deep meaning ❤
Grandpa is more savage then today's teens 😞🤣🤣♥️🔥🔥
Not a usual grandpa one will ecer had😂😂😂
Personally, Enjoy It.
He's actually a Storyteller and his punches are Mindblowing..
Never saw this type of Entrepreneur..♥️
A Man With Simple Mind..
Best punch line"if you don't love your spouse your neighbour will,if you don't train your employee your compdeter will.
either you can discuss or you can decide you can't do both because once you discuss you cannot decide."
Poverty is a fortune.
Pampered child can not be a good enterpreneur.
There is a time tp quit from Mad race.

What kind of business and may I get some of your blessings and advice
Hlo from where are you
how is it going bro?
He remembers every incident of his life so vividly...Only some one who is fully involved with life can do so
meri favourite punch line "bal k sath pahar khencho, agr aya tou pahar or agr gya tou baal" i realy like it
and thankyou raj shemani, from PAKISTAN
The success what he got is the result of his clarity on the idea he had..A poor child who fought for daily meals now got 5000cr in his pocket... His journey is of freedom, a man of gut and decision making phenomenon 🙂
First time I saw Raj has no questions to ask. He's just stunned. Velumani sir is genius because of his background he learned many things in early age. Understanding of things, decision-making is the best way.. Loved it❤

Standing machines are liabilities while working machines are asset
If you are giving what a customer wants you are running a grocery shop and if you are giving your own stuff then it's a Bakery

Shamani accha handle kiya. Ye admi to hira hai. Overload of experience, storytelling, comic timing.
Velumani sir 🎉youngster need a person like you to guide u 😊😊😊😊
Indeed, he is a brilliant leader and a mentor 💯
But he doesn't want to guide anyone personally.😁
Raj Shamani, sir, you or your staff made a wonderful choice in selecting the guest.
Ask yourself you want to have 15000 in age of 80 or 90 or you want to have 1-2cr in 23-24 ?
