I cannot thank you enough for this video. I’m a novice gardener and just last year started an English style Cottage Garden in my backyard. I live in Toronto, Canada which hardiness zone 5a. It gets really cold in winter so I bought lots of frost resistant perennials. My garden lacks the brightness that annual flowers being to the garden. Your selection of the annuals that are cost effective and can be grown from seeds is a very big help to someone like me. A thousand thank yous and keep up the excellent job.
I am in Toronto too and interested to hear you say you are in zone 5a - which is in agreement with many Canadian sources I’ve read, Canadian zones being different from USDA designations. I have read some Canadian sources call TO 6b recently and that is what I’m banking on for my cool annuals! I guess my failure rate will clarify this for me lol. And I do think maybe we are seeing changes in zones with climate change. 🤔
Thank you for showing me this video. My plants are about 4-5 inches tall now.. Love you showing me what they will look like when they flower. Have a great day!
This was inspirational. Definitely going to try some of your recs. I had huge success this year with geraniums and petunias. The geraniums are now monsters. Had to give many away. Also with coleus, impatiens, pansies, larkspur. Many of my coleus also came from cuttings that I just kept in water over the winter. Also I kept pruning the potted ones all summer as they got so huge. I put the cuttings in water and within a few weeks had good sized plants to keep filling in the ugly spaces of August. I am getting more into seeds each year for all the reasons you mentioned. And the home grown seedlings are so much healthier. Will miss my frequent trips to the garden centre lol!
Four o'clock's and morning glories are my nightmare. For 5 years now I've been plucking them suckers out of my garden. Trying my best to get rid of them all. Four o'clock's are the easiest of the two to spot, morning glories like to surprise you/meee! Great video those coleus looked lovely.
Can you tell me why I cannot get white coneflower seeds to propagate? I have tried twice, no results. I would appreciate any tips and thank you for the video on growing annuals from seed. The potted plant prices are rediculous!
Literally they have eaten at least 100 pounds of seed including grass I don’t care . This year I got 5 zinnias, and morning glories , some flax , poppies and larkspur yay !!!’
@@susans1679 wow, I'm in zone 6a pretty crazy winters and mines come back every year. About 5 years now it's been pretty reliable. I was shocked to see it return after the first year because on the pot it says annual.
@@itkahsramal4983 it must love its spot/be in a little microclimate. That’s one of the many fascinating things with gardening - so full of surprises! And the beauty of seed starting - it allows you to experiment without spending a fortune.

Coneflowers have been my crux. Just can’t get them to germinate.
About 20 years ago, I grew purple cone flowers from seed and they still grow every summer!
🌻🌺🌸🌿ENJOYED 🌿🌸🌺🌻

You better check it again because dusty miller does not need Stratification
It's also a perennial.
@@itkahsramal4983 Only in zones 8-11. Definitely not in Canada with maybe a few exceptions such as Victoria, Vancouver etc

9:29 about the Phloxes
I have a question. How many different flowers or seeds can you plant in the same pot so they don’t get crowded.
It depends on sprouting rate, growth speed, nutrients in soil.
Can you please recommend where I can order seeds from?
In Canada William dam , Incredible seeds. Check there website maybe they ship to states
Box store seeds like Home Depot have very decent quality or garden centres
What's with the continuous rising intonation (up-speak)? Instead of telling us, it sounds like you are constantly asking us questions. Annoying!
