Bumble bees love to sleep on the blanket flowers. I used to work at a local plant nursery, it was so fun to go out to perennials and see all of the bumbles asleep on the flowers.
I couldnt believe how many seed packets you had and you planted them all! Amazing, so much effort in this one video. Glad its not just me, i planted 2 packs of forget me nots and got nothing lol. Thanks for the jam packed video 🙂
I bought me a bunch of seeds from, Dollar Tree. Can't wait to plant them. I just wait til all frosts are gone, which is about the middle of May. I plant them straight in the ground. I saved a bunch of my zinnias seeds from last year, they really do good for me. I know they are a annual, but I just really love them. And my blue morning glories done so good last year also. I bought 12 more packs this year. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I love yarrow. I got it growing wild out in my field, but it's just that dirty white. I would love to be able to grow the yellow and the peach color.
I like that you show the whole process and include what worked and what didn't. Also seeing flowers I never heard of, it's nice to expand beyond what you plant year after year.
I was born hearing impaired; I constantly get corrected and even had people say I have an accent and ask me where I’m from …I tell them it’s not an accent it’s a lisp. I will rewatch this video and take some notes 😊
Excellent video. Like how you leave the names up while you explain. Also like how you explain germination rate, cost and amt of seed. Excellent video, especially for newbies. I'm an oldie, but enjoyed very much, even learned something. Thank you very much.
@@bowler8 she obviously knows that it's perennial because she wrote it in the title. Maybe in her part of the world that's how it's pronounced, maybe it's one of her quirks. It doesn't matter. Anyone with more than 2 brain cells would understand even if they noticed in the first place. And more importantly it doesn't detract from the quality of the information and the video.
How perfectly thorough and knowledgeable you are. I recently retired and love to spend hours a day in my gardens. Your presentation is a keeper. I have collected seeds in the wild from interesting plants and have several times regretted it (swamp daisies, just don't!). Watching all my spelling mistakes and apostrophes; you have a strict and critical audience. Thanks for making the video.
I made my front and back yard a Botanical Garden(my neighbours call it) as it was invaded by grubs. Everybody that passes by admire the beautiful flowers, even men (lots). Every fall, I've been collecting seeds then put in an envelope, put the name of the flower and year, then save them. So when those ladies ask for seeds, it's very convenient. Sometimes I just spread the seeds then when spring comes I can share baby plants.
Aquilegia, Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Geranium Maculata, and New England Asters have been self-seeding themselves in my yard for 14 years. I don't like the new types of Echinacea that don't produce viable seed, but the descendants of my original plants are still doing great. I tried to grow Rudbeckia from seed this year, but it has not done well. Not to worry, the descendants of my original plants are doing okay. I grew shasta daisies from seed about seven years ago, and they are still thriving.
I had great success with Rudbeckia by winter sowing last year - maybe give that a try next season. I planted them out last April and they bloomed in summer and lasted until frost.
Once you have Aquilegia in your garden and it's shady with a moist, clay like soil, you will never be without them anymore. They form huge patches of plants, many of them grow extremely tall, like about hip height and they all have different colors. It's a really fun plant to grow in the garden.
I love your channel. You explain everything really well. I am new to growing and excited for next year with all my seeds. Hope I see some flowers this year. Thank for helping all of us!
Im in zone 10a Florida. I can't grow every one you mentioned but I still enjoyed learning about them. I've included a lot of different kinds this year that will grow year after year here. I'm loving it too.
Yes she is speaking incorrectly many times throughout this video. I always hope to learn from these videos but she needs to study before making another video.
Can cold-stratify some of these seeds to increase germination percentage ... also keep an eye on the Lupin - they are so aggressive! either prune before seeds or be overwhlemed with seedlings everywhere! Yarrow can be ground-layered as well if you don't want to collect their seeds (Simply bury a connected stem and it will root quick that can then be cut and moved)
Great video! I am always happy to find another Canadian gardener on RUclips. I also get many of my seeds from William Dam - they are great. I am trying indoor seeding with fall planting of cool annuals this year - a la Lisa Mason Ziegler. Annual seeds (as well as yarrow) sown a week ago are well germinated. Thought I would try same with a few perennials- Columbine, ajuga and heuchera. I suspect from what you said that Columbine may not germinate in time to get them in the ground with enough time before first frost. But half the fine is trying new things. We grow zinnias as annual. One recommendation: start indoor in containers, because they are very slow in the beginning. My pollinators love zinnias. They are also drought resistant annual flowers. Collect your own seeds in the fall for varieties you love.

There's chamomile & cat nip, That helps anyone to sleep. Dwarf pineapple sage plant.
So many plants are now sold as hybrids so collecting seeds doesn't work. I've asked which coneflowers would reseed and the nursery told me hybrids won't. How sad that was.
Some hybrids will grow, but they will be different from parent plants. Nature always reverses human made changes back to normal. This mechanism is called “Hybridisation barrier”

I enjoyed your video! Double check your pronunciation of the word “perennial” though. 😊
People keep commenting about “perennial”. English is probably not her first language, let it goooo. Focus on what she has to share.
Did anyone notice she said that she was in Canada? I’m guessing that’s why she says perennial somewhat differently.
I would add Popies ! easy to saw outdoors , they grow themselves )) I would consider it perennial because they will drop seed and replant themselves
