works, but not realistic. the machine requires you embroider your hat a bit higher, which looks ugly if it's too high, else the needle will break due to the bottom of the hat nearest to the visor is ever so slightly sloped, and that slight slope will cause the needle to bend and then snap on the next few stitches. raising the pattern avoids this, but then the pattern is too high most of the time. going back to the patching method, use a high heat adhesive with a hat press, no fuss. just use black felt as a base since it matches the black outline satin stitches anyway.
