Love these videos!!! Honestly, you are working your way to being the best film breakdown / bts on RUclips in my opinion. Only thing that would step it up in my opinion is someone getting some bts from a third person perspective, however I know it's not always that simple or efficient to have a dedicated bts person on set.
Thanks so much for the support! I'd definitely would love to have someone else on set to film but yeah like you said, not always possible to do, maybe in the future! 😄
Damn i really took your calamigos ranch restaurant video as a huge inspiration before but never saw this video, and now there's 2 things i appreciate from this 1. Youre not afraid to use a DJI mavic air. In the tech world this is a very old drone and everyone i ask suggests to buy a newer one. Most drone operators where I'm from just use it with bad color grading and movement, bad effects and cheesy transitions, and oversharpening all over the place. In your footage i didnt even think of it as an "old" drone. I don't have a drone yet but my budget self is convinced the mavic air is it for me (been eyeing it for a while now since my work doesn't require it much) 2. You're also the first person ive seen pronounce zhi yun as the chinese pronunciation. Not sure why the company itself told everyone it's "zhu win"
For my C200, there's internal NDs so no need to attach it there. But for all other cameras/drones, whenever I'm shooting outside in sunlight, I'm using variable ND filters
Thanks! Everything here was shot at 60fps. We spoke with the client to get an idea of what they were looking for, and from the inspo videos they sent over, everything was in slow motion which they loved
@@AlexJCheung thanks for the reply, and yes…love the 24fps, but I’ve documented of my previous trips at 60. For those projects, slow mo is essential. Cheers and keep up the great work 🙏
Alexander! Great review on the camera and I appreciate the btw on your commercial shoot. I have a C200 and am thinking about purchasing the Crane 3S (do I need the pro version?). I own an easyrig minimax and am wondering do you think I could use that to hook onto the arm in "low" or "undersling" mode? My thoughts are it would help relieve some of that weight throughout the day shooting on this heavy rig. Finally, is the C200/Zhiyun crane 3s REALLY heavy? Thanks.
Hey Caleb! Thanks for the love! I would definitely get the Pro version of the 3S, the SmartSling handle is something I use all the time for quick camera setting adjustments. If you have the Minimax (jealous btw, I wanna get one too) then you'll be able to take off the tripod legs, and screw on a hook, and hang the entire gimbal upside down on the EasyRig. It will most certainly help with shooting for longer periods of time since you're carrying 15 pounds of weight with the C200/3S combo 🥵
@@AlexJCheung Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation! I bought my Minimax used on a site called www.sharegrid.com/ they have a lot of different options for used gear! One more question, if hang the gimbal upside down, is it still pretty versatile on different shots I may want to film?
It's amazing and loved to watch it. Surely will try your technique in my upcoming Staycation blogs 😍Thank you for making such videos and sharing your valuable ideas.
I think A.J. has found his niche with commercial tutorials! I subscribe to Smithsonian, National Geographic and Redbull Air Racing, and guess which channel I'm always checking for new content? Great format, breakdowns and explanations: it's like taking a for-audit masterclass.
Thanks so much for your support and kind words! Really means a lot to me and inspiring to hear! 😁 Sorry for the lack of content recently, been trying to scale my business so that I can create more RUclips BTS videos!
Hey Alex, love the ad! I think some of these shots look a little off-horizontal though? Maybe like the gimbal was off a few degrees? Is this something you've had issues with on it?
That's what I thought too haha but the actual property itself is in the Santa Monica Mountains and some of the buildings, roads, etc. are literally slanted 🤣
That's an awesome video right there. Love every bit of the shots and the breakdown, especially the details. Do you mind sharing the Title of the music you used in background and where to source it. Cheerio.
Hey, nice work. I wasn’t able to tell in the video if you used the power+ battery that you can buy separately for the Zhiyun crane 3s. It’s supposed to help the motors better handle the heavier cameras above 3kg.
Great video! How does one sell such a video? Did you have to do a story board, then make a presentation? Then mix and match and come up with a budget? Feel lost on getting my first client? And oh my goodness... can I really manage to use the C200? ))) Thank you Alex!
Thanks for the support Gary! This video is part of an ongoing relationship that we have with our client to help them create social media content. We initially shot a wedding on their property and they really liked our work so we created a spec video (sample video) so they could see our skills as a hospitality production company. If you're looking to get your first client, you should reach out to as many companies as possible and show them your portfolio. Hope that helps!
2 questions. 1. You said you were shooting 4k. what were you shooting 24fps or 50fps. 2. I just got the crane 3 and I have a C200. but I having a hell of a time balancing it. I had a Bright tangerine cage that I removed. And yes I watched your video. I'm having the most problems with motor 2 (trying to get it to balance off axes. And motor 3. The lean test. I do have a Xeen 14mm lens and might change it to Canon 16-35mm. maybe that will help. I am using the additional zhiyun Batter pack. Anyway... any advice-?
1. I'm shooting 4K 60fps for everything. I know that everything will be slowed down in post, so I didn't shooting 24 at all. 2. Hm, I'm not sure why you'd be having problems balancing. Tbh, having a heavier rig is easier to balance on the 3S. If you're able to get it mostly balanced, it's not too big of a deal. For example, if the camera leans sliiiightly in one direction after you've balanced, it should be fine. Unless the motors are actually having an issue operating, then they should be okay to hold up the rig
Hi, do you think that such a commercial or even something sort of nice commercial could be shot through iPhone 12's camera as well as a Dji mobile 3 gimble?
Hi there! It's extremely difficult to shoot something like this on any smartphone. Could it be done? Yes. But shooting on a smartphone causes a lot of unexpected headaches for you. It would be better if you'd just buy/rent a mirrorless camera instead of shooting on a smartphone
@@AlexJCheung Thank you so much man for replying. really appreciate it. I am just a beginner and trying to figure out if I can get some work with promotional videos and slowly I'd upgrade my gare. Do let me know in case you prepare some sort of tutorials?
@@MedleyDiaries Definitely! Glad I can help! What kind of videos would be very helpful for you? I'm planning on making a lot more tutorials so this would be very insightful
@@AlexJCheung Hi so basically what I want to do is make myself a CV for restaurant shoots, more over food cinematics and tricks, cooking cinematics, food presentation. More on that part, I'll be really thankful if you come up with such tutorials since I am a beginner and shall be using my iPhone 12 and a dji gimble for it. I use movie as of now for the edits. It will be really great if you could teach how to record such stuff with this basic set of equipment? Warm regards. Hope you see this and reply back soon.
Loved the video as is, maybe you could do a stand alone in-depth on how you like to various drone shots and how you handle manipulating the camera controls and flight controls at the same time.
Oooh, that's a good idea! Drone shots are definitely tricky, not gonna lie haha. But I'll keep this in mind and try to come up with a video, appreciate the feedback!
Why fly the C200 on your Crane3s and kill your arms when you had a Canon R accessible? Speaking as a c200 owner with the Crane3s it crushes me after 5 minutes of use
Haha yeah I know what you mean. I really like the footage from the C200 over the R. For me it's worth it, but I guess I'm just crazy for putting up with the weight 🤣
I think you are cutting yourself short by not uploading your content in a 2:1 ratio and not uploading it to RUclips that way. Your images are incredible and so is the audio but RUclipss compression of your 1080p is getting in the way of being able to fully get the best images out of your videos. Great job on your video though
Doing my first hotel shoot today
Kinda nervous but I needed this
Thanks for everything
Let's gooo, excited for you man! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
Solid video! Got my first hotel shoot & feeling really confident

Great job! I am a C200 owner wmas well. Can u control focus via the focus wheel?
Can you use the 1/4” Screw Thread with Crown Gear for the Phone holders to mount the Canon C200 side grip with Arri Rosette mount?
No, the rosette mount on the Crane 3S is not big enough for the side grip
