I can appreciate the care to keep a figure’s hairline intact. Some of the plastic looks related to gold plastic, so this makes me appreciate my Black Sky Shadow, as well as him being a Titanmaster now. Also much more economic than a vintage version.
I would love to see a real attempt at a modern pretender. A shell with modern articulation with a coresize bot that turns from bot-veichle to maybe a block or something so it can fit in the chest without hindering the shell.
Shadow and Bacchus aren’t actually maketed as Pretenders in Victory, but as “Crossformers”. Their Pretender shells look so robotic, because they actually are robotic, rather than organic
Bumblebee, Grimlock and Jazz are such good inner robots. I have to wonder how much better the Pretenders line would have been if Hasbro/Takara tried to put more effort into the original characters.
Indeed, along G1 Metalhawk, this is a TRUE "Holy Grail." When that thing pop on eBay, it's always complete with box and all papers for THOUSANDS of dollars.
I had that one for many years & I bought it from the original owner; it was basically mint in box. I loved this toy! Then we moved, my job didn't pan out & we needed $- so bye bye Black Shadow! It was a good price I got (a little less as the market dipped). It is an awesome toy & love that it's gotten more love lately!
Pretenders are my absolute favorite G1 line.Black Shadow ,Blue Baccus,And Grand Maximus are going for some serious coin..And the rarest of the line.Top 3 holy grail pieces for me.
at 9:42, first thing i thought was are Splashdown, Skyhigh and Groundbreaker related to the Battle Beasts line somehow? Groundbreaker sort of looks like the tiger vehicle from Battle Beasts and Skyhigh looks sort of like the Blazing Eagle vehicle playset. Those 2 are kind of a stretch, i know, but Splashdown's chest armor is a dead ringer for the Shocking Shark playset from Battle Beasts.
I dig the alternate mode for the shell. Puts me in mind of Cybertron-Mode Laserbeak (or "Condor," right?) feel, almost like he caught an Insecticon mid-flight. Surprised Blokees hasn't gotten around to making Pretenders. Could have some slick Centurions-style build and play patterns. Inagine getting Chris Cloudburst in his very excellent grey sweatshirt, like that time an enormous girl lopped his head off.
1:17, the stuff of legends~ You got that right, man. 5:50, that's a very Marvel UK Megatron-looking face there. 7:02, too bad him and his partner weren't seen in the show often. 7:24, though Blue Bacchus' design looks very unique and not very TF-like tbh. It's a change of pace I dig. 9:50, Metal Heroes but close 'nuff. 10:50, and then there's Baikanfu from Machine Robo Cronos who may as well be the most powerful of all Pretenders. 13:40, pretty sweet jet mode tho.
13:36 Surprised that you didn't compare this to that Titans Return Skyshadow (goofy Overlord pretool that surprisingly never saw a Thunderwing retool) or the Generations Deluxe Skyshadow (equally goofy Generations Thunderwing retool).
That’s wild. I’ve been hoping to at least find a Thunderwing for years with no luck. I have the Generations Sky Shadow and my one complaint is that he’s too small. I skipped the TR version because as a pretool of Overlord, it just didn’t feel right. I keep hoping Hasbro blesses us with a new Thunderwing/Black Shadow that are properly sized and mold mates. And I wouldn’t mind a Blue Bacchus. HasLab Deathsaurus needs his troops.
I think you slipped and called a bunch of the other Pretenders "Headmasters" during the comparisons. Despite that, really good look at Black Shadow. His shell's jet mode gives me Laserbeak vibes. 8^)
Just seeing Black Shadow and Blue Bacchus together is a delight!
@@TheNewSam agreed!

@@HidaAtarasi there’s no gold plastic here - just gold paint!
@ the silver plastic, I mean.
Like Transmetal Megatron, not all GPS is actually gold.
I worry about my Fire Convoy for the same reasons.
I'm always down for your coverage of vintage pieces. You have some of the best production value of anyone who talks about G1 stuff.
Aw thank you!
I so hope that they bring back Pretenders with modern articulation!
Like a small deluxe with a big shell that's not a brick anymore
@@goldenltd1970 I’d be interested to see it

All true and something I did initially think to mention
Bumblebee, Grimlock and Jazz are such good inner robots. I have to wonder how much better the Pretenders line would have been if Hasbro/Takara tried to put more effort into the original characters.
Fwiw I really like the standard Pretenders too!
Your lighting and camera work are absolutely fantastic 😄💥❤️
@@dominicpaul1 thank you! That’s very nice to read :)

Yeah, there is one on eBay now (or was) for a hefty sum - although it has also been sat there for quite a while
the shot of Black Shadow and Blue Bacchus together, ah so good!
It's something!

Ah sorry to hear that - but yes, definitely an awesome piece!
@@SixoTF No worries, but thanks & Merry Christmas to you! I @ least had him for nearly 20 years & made a profit when it sold.
I loved that showcase of many of the various Pretender figures from the G1 era. I had a couple of 'em and it brought back some pleasant memories!
I'm really pleased you enjoyed it! I had thought to include more but worried it would be too much
Man, so good to see these bots getting more appreciation. Solid vid
Thanks!

Definitely a similar vibe but just coincidence afaik!
I litterally just got the titans return one (for a decent price) I actually really like it and seeing the original is a very nice treat. thank you.
My pleasure! I would like to get the TR version too!

Thanks!
Very stylish robot. Hope he gets a generations interpretation one day

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Sixo!

I genuinely think it’s a very underused play pattern - loads that could be done with it!
Was having a heart attack until I realized that gold is paint

I'll admit, id never heard of this toy before but he is a very handsome looking figure
For sure
I do like black shadow. Would’ve loved to got the G1 version or Titans return version. But I’m happy with the generations version.
I’m kinda tempted by the TR now…
Shadow like the hedgehog woah
It all syncs up
in 2003 you promised shocker a pint when we met up. well shocker now owns a pub. pints on shocker, let me know if you venture north.
Well Thunder my Wing, you only went and did it!
Was there ever any doubt? :D
@SixoTF you're gonna need that white one that Rocklordsrock made
Sixo? More like Flexo!

A gentleman never collects & tells… but suffice it to say it was both a lot and yet still surprisingly a good deal!
This is like a Japanese headmaster
Kinda - even more elusive in this case!
@SixoTF yeah, I'm not sure if you remember me but I'm that guy who suggested transforming the legs first on your legacy g1 Optimus prime 😁
what is so good about this figure in term of design, appearence and play value??
Well, I’d hope I kinda covered that off in the vid 😅
