Knights Of Valor: The Seven Stars (Arcade) A very Atomiswave-looking Atomiswave game

  • I was trying to find out if there were any secret 3D arcade Knights Of Valor games and stumbled on the 2nd best thing - 2D Knights Of Valor game on a 3D background!
Every Atomiswave game has its own way of blending the 2D and 3D, resulting in a unique look. I think this game's approach was to not really care that much and not worry about blending. Just plop that sprite in there, scale it up and down depending on distance from the player, done!
But the gameplay in this one speaks to my heart in many different ways! As you can see, I had to keep on playing a little more. I will not defend how it looks but it plays very nicely, with a pretty cool timing based combo system and evasive skills.
In the first level, my character flashes gold at some points in the combo. That's when you hit heavy attack for a combo extension that might be a few more heavy hits, ending in a wall bounce or something. And then they take away the training wheels after level 1--no more flash! The window is pretty large tho, so I need to test the viability of just mashing heavy attack around the flashing frame.
I'm not sure the name of the classy princess that I picked but she had that "every button you hit works out" feeling to her. There are a ton of enemies on screen all the time and you just knock em out like musou squads. The bosses didn't seem super hard, which I like. I will be playing more of this for sure.
Side Note: The KOV series is vast, so there IS a full 3D Knights Of Valor. Rather, there WAS one on the PS4. It was free-to-play and the plug was pulled a long time ago. It was 2.5D style with 3D models and backgrounds. I had it and even threw them a few bucks -- it was hideous, had like no lighting, the monetization was like early 00s random f2p MMO, but it was fun enough to control and gawk at from time to time.
