Thank you for your great video! It actually made a huge difference on me getting my generator going today (on Sunday). I have an Oliver Travel Trailer with two 30lb propane tanks, and a Honda 3000is generator on board. I went to Hutch Mountain to get my LP conversion kit, and over the last two days we've worked hard to get things dialed in. Because it was an EXTREMELY tight fit in our "generator basket" on the front of the trailer, we had to do several custom fabrications, drill holes, making brackets, etc. etc. This was to be a permanent installation. In any event, today was "D" day where we tried to fire it up. And . . . . nothing! Motor kept turning and turning. We couldn't figure out what was the problem. When you pressed the spring primer button, you could hear gas flow. So, as usual, we went to youtube looking for help and found your channel/video. Although not apples to apples (you have a 2200, we have a 3000), lots of similarities. Then we got towards the end when you talked about "Eco" mode. We checked our generator, and sure enough it was on "Eco" mode. We turned off Eco mode and it fired right up!!! Hooray!!! Thanks again for your content, it really helped us today. We are now subscribers!! Note to self: Always start generator with eco mode turned OFF!!
I installed the same kit on my Honda EU2200I, and after multiple camping trips, it has performed flawlessly every time. No more gas, fumes, or worrying about static electricity inside the Jeep while carrying a gas can. Propane may be slightly less efficient than gasoline, but I'll never have a gunked up carburetor or stale gas, and I can easily adjust the regulator for any elevation change (in Arizona, my camping range is 200' to 8,500' elevation). For the performance and convenience advantages, this conversion is worthy of consideraton.
I did this conversion and it works well. The only drawback is you can’t top off propane like you can gasoline. You either need a backup propane tank ready to go or you are shut down while you go get the tank refilled.
Thank you for answering a question I had about it running in eco mode. I didn't know if eco still worked with propane. I don't know how but it seems to work just fine. I totally agree with ya, pimp my Honda. Magnetic oil cap - check, handle protector - check, multi-fuel conversion kit - check, we are good to go!
The video was pretty good, but you forgot to mention the third washer when installing the 90 degree fitting in the hole at the top of the generator case. The third washer is required so that the fitting tightens correctly on the case. I had to take it all apart, which wasn't easy since the close nipple loosened on the wrong side.
I just purchased the eu2200i and what a gem of a generator.I’ve always loved Honda products they are top notch.I’m highly considering this conversion .

Wow! Thank you for the very kind words. I always strive for a professional look on my projects and installs so it means a lot when someone notices that. Thank you!
It probably doesn’t matter because it fits either way but the manual instructions say it’s 4 3/4” back from the top edge of the red plastic case border (where it meets the black front face). That would make it about 5/16” towards the front of the unit where you drilled the hole. If you put the metal washer’s left edge of the hole against where you put the tape then the center of the washer would be exactly 4 3/4” from the edge of the red plastic case border.
Hey, so happy I watched your video, now I have the confidence to get this kit! Thanks so much and of course I subscribed. Hope to move to western Montana someday. Take care, Paul Sanders
I like watching you work and your commentary as you work. I want to order a generator and the convertor kit, bring it to you, sit and watch you install it for me.
In case you don’t know, propane or natural gas are both very clean burning fuels. Should get longer oil life too. I tore down a Ford tractor engine that burned propane for many years. That was just a slight build up of a white powder in the cylinders and valves. It came off very easy. One downside is propane has less power than gasoline. You may not notice it unless pushing it to the limit (1800 watts). I did see a video using one on a 15,000 BTU AC. Houston has none of the eu2200 generators. And no one knows when more will be shipped here. They were all shipped to Louisiana.
Great video; nicely done step by step. Question, please: A Hutch Mountain video does not show the step where you drain the fuel before switching to propane. Is that required?
Before breaking in my 2200 I bought that magnetic dip stick also. It did collect quite a bit of debris. That felt good!!😊 Should mention that I had a loose Earth magnet in my dipstick that Was loose and would have ended up in my engine. I had that happened to me on my handy 3000 i and mymain bearing is bad in that engine now. And I'm assuming the Earth magnet was stuck to it. Yup. Watch Project Farms video on what ethanol containing gas does to a carburetor when sitting there. Additives helped but no ethanol gas was better than any additive.
That comment about the Germans saying “Good n tight (gutinthian)” I’m sure I spelled it incorrectly but I’m sure it’s used incorrectly all the way around that doesn’t make it any less funny. Keep it up man your content just keeps getting better.
Excellent video. Well done. I'm curious if you ever needed to change the jet or adjust the provided regulator after the video for altitude. Also: have you used this genny on propane at even higher elevations, say over 10k? Thoughts about that? Thanks again and best regards. - Rusty
Really a cool video. 👍 Just a quick question? What happens when the generator shuts down on an overload and no one closes the propane tank valve? Is propane leaking in the generator (Garage)? Should the choke be used as if the generator would run on gasoline? Thank you, from Quebec City, Canada.
I have installed several Hutch Mountain kits, on two EU2200i generators and one EU3000is. If the generator is not running, no propane is drawn through the demand regulator, so no flow. This is a safety feature of this setup. No choke is required for startup on propane.
If red overload light is on and shutting down. Back off power immediately it's overloaded and you can burn up the inverter. Never run generator with red light on, flickering or blinking. As instructions say it can damage or shorten the life on a inverter generator. I burned up 2 cheap Chinese inverter generators. My Honda inverter generators take a licking!
the only down fall of the hutch kit is the no load valve.... the hutch kit states to adjust the demand regulator that is just wrong info! i added the load valve kit and it works perfect! atta boy for the blue 242 loctite!
Loctite all the way, don't want anything failing when I'm out and about. So far I haven't had any trouble with the propane conversion but if I do will will definitely make an update.
@@CodeBrownProductions I would really be interested on your fuel consumption data post conversion. How long can you run continuously on one cylinder of propane at load?
You might be able to modify it to physically make it work on another generator if it's the same size. But if yours is a 4000w generator it might not be set up to flow the right about of propane so be careful if you try that.
Great Video! I would love to buy the hutch mountain kit but live far from the USA. Could you be so kind as to tell us what the flow rate is for the gas regulator they provide? It would be very helpful to know this so that others around the world can find more stable forms of energy for their communities.
@@CodeBrownProductions thanks for the fast reply! Should have the flow rate on the regulator itself. I’ll give them a shout and see if they’ll share their specs
I just purchased this same kit. Quick question, do you leave the choke lever to the left or to the right when using hutch mountain propane conversion kit.
Do not store gas with fuel stabalizer in any power equipment. I am a mechanic at a Husqvarna dealership and I can tell you from years of experiance stabalizer destroys plastc and rubber parts. Keep the gas tank empty and dry, but have several bottles of shelf stable 4 stroke gas with your generator. VP has an exelent shelf stable 4 stroke gas. If your propane runs out then add the canned gas to the tank. Do not store spair fuel in your generator's tank for more than 1 month.
@@CodeBrownProductionsWhats important to understand is that gas evaporates very rapidly. but not all of what makes up gasoline can or will evaporate. What you are left with after evaporation is a much thicker and less combustable substance. Even though the fuel tank is suppoed to prevenent evaporation over time the rubber seal on the gas cap is less effective Also, the carburetor is vented to open air through what is called the bowl vent. This means the gas sitting in the carb is very prone to evaporation. As the gas evaporates out of the carb more fresh gas trickles in from the tank alowing consant evaporation of the fuel supply. As a result of this process the carborator becomes clogged by the degraded fuel. About 90% of the repairs I do are carboretor cleans which is the only remody for this conditon. If you store the generator with the fuel switch set to OFF you will prevent new gas from entering the carb, but the small amount of gas in the carb with still degrade. What fuel stabaliser does is it makes old, degraded gas more comustable, but I dont believe it can prevent the gas from degrading in the first place. The chemicals in stabaliser are hard on plastc and rubber though so almost every generator I work on which has had stabaliser in its gas over spring and summer needs a carb rebuild. I know this is alot of information and someday I want to start making videos about this stuff, but I thought I should share what knowledge I have on the subject. As an additonal side note our gas nowdays has ethanol in it which literaly absorbs moisture out of the air. This resoults in water pooling at the bottom of gas tanks and carburetors which leads to rust and corrosion.
Could you show me more about that security bracket on your 2200i. I am planning to purchase a 2200i and add the conversion but I am also worried about people stealing it from the campground. Could you explain more about securing your generator and propane tank and where I can order the parts from?
I bought mine off Amazon. Just look up Honda 2200i security bracket and you will find it. After installation all you do is run a cable lock through the handle to secure it. The metal handle bracket makes it much harder for a theif to then cut the plastic handle and steal your generator. Same goes for the propane tanks. I just run a cable lock through the tank handles.
Keep in mind this invalidates the warranty. Think I'll keep a kit handy just in case but wait til I need it. Got enough cordless tools to do it in an emergency.
So I really enjoy your channel and videos. Have you ever heard of ASMR…? This video is just like some of the accidental ASMR videos on RUclips. Not to be weird or anything but I watch this from time to time to help me go to sleep. Lol, you have a very soothing voice.
A Honda dealer said their Honda inverter generators warranty covers manufacturers defects only! What is not covered is all these gasoline problems like: Stale gasoline, Clogged up carburetor, Not getting gasoline, Gasoline in the crankcase, Needle and seat, Gasoline flooding, Clogged up fuel filter, Clogged up Spark arrestor, Starting but won't power up, Hard to start, Won't start, Fouled spark plug, And more!!! All these problems above are prevented by using propane or natural gas. By using natural gas or propane the generator will last two to three times longer. Because there is never any black carbon crud build up inside the engine ever which causes leaky valves and piston rings that won't spin on the Piston Ring lands. Which causes loss of power Blow by and eventually not running appliances. And then it's engine rebuilding or generator replacement at that point. I own and sell this generator just like this new in the box. I've been in the business for years. I've installed many of dual and tri-fuel kits. I've also had a car running and drove a car on propane. If you're interested in a new generator like this or the New Honda 1000 Tri fuel. Leave me a message thanks.
Does the sticker say Gasoline off, propane no or is that just me? And btw for your gas detector inside the trailer its should be below where u sleep as propane collects near the floor :)
Good question. From my research propane is about 80% as energy dense as regular unleaded fuel. So I won't have the same amount of power but I'll be close. As for run time Hutch Mountain says I can run 30+ hours on a BBQ propane tank but don't clarify what size. I'm think they are referring to a standard 20lbs tank and the generator running at 50% load. Either way my camper has (2) 40lbs tanks on board so I should have more then sufficient supply to run all my needs and then some even on extended trips.
Generator running - connected to LPG bottle. Generator quits running for whatever reason. Gas continues to flow through the open valve on the LPG bottle. Is this a safety issue ?
It's an on demand regulator. Propane won't flow unless it's under negative pressure from the generator. Of course it's a mechanical valve so there's always the risk of failure but that's with anything.
Not since I initially bought the generator. When I first bought it I gaped it properly and after the propane conversion I didn't change anything cause it was running so smooth.
Going good so far! Solar panels are installed, power station is going in and just got a new Demetic fridge the I put under the bed. More videos to come as I complete each project.
Working great. I've had absolutely no issues so far. I would definitely buy the Hutch Mountain kit again. I'm not familiar with the Grenergy, but that doesn't mean anything, they could be better or worse, I'm not sure.
I'm not sure of the exact number because I haven't ran it dry yet. But Hutch Mountain says it can run up to 30 hours on a standard BBQ tank. I'm assuming they are referring to 50% load on a 20lbs tank. So with two 40lbs tanks I would expect 120hr......ish
from experience the problem with all these kits is if your generator stops running for any reason the propane keeps flowing. Also it burns more propane than gasoline about 30% more. it saves you nothing.
No if the 6" valve or engine stops the propane stops. I installed a load block on top of valve. I adjusted leaner for a little more power more fuel efficiency and can be adjusted easy for higher elevations. I converted a few generators and used load blocks on the conversions. A propane engine will last twice as long as a gasoline engine will, less problems, more dependable, no treating fuel, no carb problems, no starting every week, less maintenance because the oil lasts longer and the spark plug never turns black. Propane is the lazy man's fuel and preppers fuel. In my area propane is $2.00 a gallon and in the long run it's the cheaper way to go with way less problems!!!
You should read my other comment it explains Honda's warranty straight from Honda. It's what Honda said. All those gasoline related problems are not covered under warranty. They will fix it but you're going to pay for it. All those gasoline related problems don't happen when you run propane or natural gas! And the engine last two to three times longer running propane or natural gas.

Great review and job man. Enjoyed it.
Thank you!
is there a video for converting the eu3000is ?
Didn't know you could do this! Thanks also I kept hearing the switcher in my subwoofer damn rail yard!
Also need to have an update on how efficient this setup is!
“ it’s actually called Unintentional ASMR… you may have a new calling
Unintentional ASMR
The conversion kit installation invalidates the Honda warranty, right?
Most likely
A Honda dealer said their Honda inverter generators warranty covers manufacturers defects only!
What is not covered is all these gasoline problems like:
Stale gasoline,
Clogged up carburetor,
Not getting gasoline,
Gasoline in the crankcase,
Needle and seat,
Gasoline flooding,
Clogged up fuel filter,
Clogged up Spark arrestor,
Starting but won't power up,
Hard to start,
Won't start,
Fouled spark plug,
And more!!!
You just sold me on a Hutch Mountain Kit!
I love mine so far.
@@CodeBrownProductions I have two EU3000IS and two EU2200i's
Does the sticker say Gasoline off, propane no or is that just me?
And btw for your gas detector inside the trailer its should be below where u sleep as propane collects near the floor :)
It just points to the gasoline off setting so that the generator stays on but shuts off the flow of gasoline.
Nice and Clean install 👌 I like it! What is the price of the kit?
$263 at the time of this writing
Dont you need a propane filter inline after the regulator so propane oil doesnt get into the Generator?
Awesome , too bad they don’t make one for predator generators. I’m looking for something now.
I don't know dog I think your sticker was a little bit crooked
I curious how it works after 2 years. If it was ok for the generator?
Works great, no issues!
Understand that it gives you fuel source flexibility, but how does the run time on a tank of propane compare to gas?
Good question. From my research propane is about 80% as energy dense as regular unleaded fuel. So I won't have the same amount of power but I'll be close. As for run time Hutch Mountain says I can run 30+ hours on a BBQ propane tank but don't clarify what size. I'm think they are referring to a standard 20lbs tank and the generator running at 50% load. Either way my camper has (2) 40lbs tanks on board so I should have more then sufficient supply to run all my needs and then some even on extended trips.
Great video, I'm getting one of these right now...What the discount code?
I wish I had a discount code. I'm not affiliated with them. I just made the video cause I really like what they make.
I seen another you tuber install a kill switch. I seen your sticker page had the kill switch sticker. Is that necessary or part of the kit?
It's part of the kit. The stick just shows that you place the slecetor in the Generator ON and Fuel OFF position to run on propane.
Great video! Anyone know if you can use this conversion kit on the Honda EU20i?
will this kit work on a AIVOLT 1200W,
Awesome great job man!
Thank you
Non-ethanol gas? I know of no place that sells it around here. Katy, Texas. Is this necessary??
It takes normal 85 octane
@@CodeBrownProductions I got on the Honda web site and they said E10 was ok but it should not be allowed to stay in the carb or tank for over a month.
@@CodeBrownProductions Instant reply - appreciated.
Well, that clears that up.
Thank you.
The other jet they include is for natural gas.
Did you re gap the spark plug?
Not since I initially bought the generator. When I first bought it I gaped it properly and after the propane conversion I didn't change anything cause it was running so smooth.
well done
Great vid AAA
Did 2 of mine from them .
Awesome
What’s the latest on the trailer?
Going good so far! Solar panels are installed, power station is going in and just got a new Demetic fridge the I put under the bed. More videos to come as I complete each project.
Thanks for the how to video
Welcome!
Great Job Real EZ
The sticker is a tad slanted other then that thumbs 👍
Has anyone figured out the comparison of run times between a full gasoline tank and a propane tank?
How is the conversion working with hutch mountain? I saw the grenergy kit as well and just trying to compare the two.
Working great. I've had absolutely no issues so far. I would definitely buy the Hutch Mountain kit again. I'm not familiar with the Grenergy, but that doesn't mean anything, they could be better or worse, I'm not sure.
Best job
Thank you
Cost of conversion kit? Thanks
Hutch Mountain $165
How long will it run off a bottle?
I'm not sure of the exact number because I haven't ran it dry yet. But Hutch Mountain says it can run up to 30 hours on a standard BBQ tank. I'm assuming they are referring to 50% load on a 20lbs tank. So with two 40lbs tanks I would expect 120hr......ish
Wow better than I expected thanks for info and video
Why not just use longer bolts?
The cover won't fit. It's super tight with just those.
Great job 👏 new sub here🤙
Awesome! I really appreciate it!
nice stickers
Thank you
can use a larger tank like 60lbs?
yes
Nice.
Yup
from experience the problem with all these kits is if your generator stops running for any reason the propane keeps flowing. Also it burns more propane than gasoline about 30% more. it saves you nothing.
Not so much for savings of money but convince because I already carry large amounts of propane. It's just easier to carry once fuel source.
NOTE: the new instructions have you remove the washer behind the nylon bolt... See the instructions... (I am a idiot)...
Yes I'd say that voids the warranty lol
I need a t-shirt that says, "I void warranties"
You should read my other comment it explains Honda's warranty straight from Honda. It's what Honda said. All those gasoline related problems are not covered under warranty. They will fix it but you're going to pay for it. All those gasoline related problems don't happen when you run propane or natural gas! And the engine last two to three times longer running propane or natural gas.
Seem like you forgot to remove (knock out) the washer in the back of the Air filter, that why you did not have enough threads. hahhahaha
Хорошее решение
Don't know what that says, but thank you!
A plastic propane injector no thanks. 2 cycle motors get just a little warm. Go with one that is metal.
I'll have to look into it.
WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS OBSOLETE. It does not follow the current instructions provided by Hutch Mountain:
Stupid expensive kits. May as well just use gasoline
You are a bit weird.
Sure am
