Looking at this video and listening to this music, I feel that a simple flute with six holes contains a people and country's entire memory and culture.
There's something that really rubs me the right way about the Mandolin at the start of this. Very happy about finding out about the new album today, been listening to The Ravishing Genius of Bones essentially non-stop since 2015.
Brian, I am happy you made a music video with your 90 years old neighbour, Tony! Happy birthday Tony! God bless you! I like the music video and melody a lot! What a beautiful birthday gift for him! Tony reminds me of Nea Culiță 80 years old elder from my village who I have a music video with playing a very old traditional whistle tune! We must continue their beautiful heritage and make them known to the world because they are examples worth following! Nea Culiță is also an old Christian who is still very active by doing a lot of manual labour in his house or gardens, he also has icons on his home walls and loves plants, animals both wild and domestic, the forest, the fields and can't stand when bad people are desecrating nature, that is God's creation, by throwing plastic bottles or other plastics, garbage, etc. into the wilderness or on the roads! I agree with everything you said in the description except the association of Tony, who is clearly a Christian and we can clearly see The Cross and Icons of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary on his wall, with different religions such as Pagan Shamanism, or Zen Buddhism, etc. The comparison with his current life and the life of a Christian monk who loves, protects and blesses nature would be appropriate, because he is a Christian! There are very many examples of Christian saints who loved, protected, and blessed nature, and I will only give you one example from Ireland. Saint Kevin (Coemgen) of Glendalough, Venerable Father, Wonder-worker of Ireland. Kevin or Coemgen in the Irish tongue, which means 'He of Blessed Birth' Saint Kevin was a great worker of miracles, and many of them involved the birds and animals he loved. Birds and animals loved him and he loved them. The creatures trusted him, knowing that he would take care of them and never harm them. They came when he called them, and stayed near him for hours at a time. He taught in the Glendalough monastery until his peaceful death in 618, at the age of 120. We celebrate Saint Kevin's memory on June 3. At this link you can see many examples of miracles Saint Kevin did involving nature! orthodoxwiki.org/Kevin_of_Glendalough This Icon of Saint Kevin (Coemgen) of Glendalough is from Mull Monastery of All Celtic Saints facebook.com/celticsaintsmonastery/posts/saint-kevin-of-glendalough-pray-to-god-for-us-on-the-feast-day-of-st-kevin-i-pra/2184849858250496/
Thank you for this magic woven from sounds, tales so intricate and full of emotions This world is close to us, all you need to do is open your ears and heart 🍀
Yes. My wife and I were just talking about the magic of Brian Finnegan, and how each new creation makes us just look at eachother and ask "How?" I shared this video with my mom and she said it was quite possibly the most beautiful music video she'd ever seen. She asked, "In Ireland would they say that he's enchanted." My answer, "They wouldn't have to say. They just know."
Gorgeous music! Awesome video about a lovely man. Very few people in their 90s can throw like that!👏 Go, Tony! Loving this tune, Brian! I hope to hear you play in person one day. You’ve inspired me tremendously on the whistle and flute. Thank you.
This is stunning. Many thanks for the upload. I am a big fan of Brian Finnegan as he's such an inspiration to us amateur whistle players out there. Please keep these wonderful tunes coming matey.
That's exactly what it is. There are only two real strongholds for the sport - Armagh, where Brian is from, and West Cork. Was delighted to see Tony revealed as a player in the video. Fabulous music and tribute.
I believe it's a reference to a poem his sister Morna wrote. She's an anthropologist, and has done work on the need for human touch and connection, AKA skin hunger.
@@joshuadonahue5871 wow a great response, thank you so much. I met Brian and his son at a gig in Hammersmith. He was outstanding aswel as the band. I was truly inspired

I wonder if Two Trees is being played on a low D with A fingering or an E whistle. Absolutely magical, Brian. You’ve outdone yourself.
It is on E whistle, or else you couldn’t ornament that way! Brilliant. Loving it, Brian.
@@yiannidemo6587 You got it man, spot on...E whistle. Thanks for your words 🙌
@@brianfinneganmusic349 always deserved. Thank you for the wonderful music.
I love what you're doing with your music and the deep connection to people, place and culture. This is wonderful.
So lucky to hear such a touching melody~
Thank you for making this. These little quirks and slices of life need recording, and no better men than these to do it!

Beautiful. How many percussion tracks on this? Massive track!!
Another masterpiece! Wonderful video.
What are they doing with in the road with the metal ball? Here in the states there is a similar Irish-American tradition called Irish Road Bowling.

Absolutely love this video and song aswel as the whole album!! A masterpiece . What does hunger of the skin mean does anyone know?
