Long live Stephen Malkmus.
This song is like a breath of fresh air!
Can not stop listening to this..........awesome tune and God bless French women:)
wow this is actually really good. I'm a huge Pavement fan and I never wanted to listen to Stephen's solo work, but this is terrific.
His solo work is great. check the album this came from. Wig out.. it's great. nothing sounds like it..
So, you are a big Pavement fan but avoided listening to the solo work of the man who technically was Pavement? That makes absolutely no sense, if I may be so blunt and honest. When Pavement broke up I was bummed but a bit after a year Malkmus' first solo album came out and I ran to snatch that up. Can still remember the anticipation before his Letterman performance with the new band. Been a fan since Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain came out and have stuck by him as a fan because he is just a very talented dude. I can actually say, that since I have grown up w his music, I play his solo stuff more than I do Pavement stuff, maybe cause I overplayed Pavement when young, but it's also a testament to how great he has been solo. I'm actually going to see him live on July 11th. For the fourth time w The Jicks. Only saw Pavement once. Long Live SM.
+cactaceous Amen. I always say: Pavement never broke up. They just got some new backing musicians and changed their name. Perfect Sound Forever.
+chrisocony This is a bit coincidental that you just sent me that bit of comment as I sit in my office in Manhattan, all the co workers at lunch, and I'm blasting Half A Canyon. Perfect Sound Forever indeed!
Never limit yourself
I've always loved Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, but now I also love Mathilde Baudour.
Great song, as always.
You made the 90's "the best decade ever."
We lived on Tennyson and venison and The Grateful Dead.
I've been there.
Malkmus is great. Plain and simple.
reminds me of David Lowery; just an exceptional talent, distinctive in all contexts.
Cheers!
Cool video, simple but effective. And the song is just so tight and smooth. It shows just what natural songwriters they are.
Magic as ever!
Great Band.. so original
I've had the hole Jicks discography on rotation for a while now and I dare to say it's a pretty unparalleled opus.
We grew up listening to the music from the best decade ever, talkin' bout the 80's... my favourite lyric in a long time.
It's "talkin' bout the ADD's"
He is gently mocking people who can't seem to hear good new music after a certain age and venerate their own teenage/twenties years as somehow objectively the best years for music.
Fabulous indie guitar pop showing lots of different influences, Steely Dan, Pixies.
Not sure if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last few months xD
@Roberto Jaden Yea, I've been using InstaFlixxer for years myself =)
This is great. Pumped for the new album and seeing them live:)
I love the music but also how amazing is that woman, so beautiful.
I know I'm in the minority, but I always felt Malkmus gets BETTER all the way through his career. I like the last Pavement record petter than the seminal first (which I still love) and his solo/Jicks work has been better than Pavement (except for "Real Emotional..." which as kind of a step back). Looks like he's ready to top himself again! I can't get this track outta my head since first listen!
"We lived on Tennyson and venison and The Grateful Dead"
Brilliant!
Can't wait for the album!
Well, I kind of agree with you about the progression, but on the other hand, all of his records from Pavement through the Jicks are kind of interchangeable, except maybe Slanted. Almost any track on any one could fit on another.
And I just want to note that to me Real Emotional Trash is a real pinnacle, maybe my favorite album ever by Malkmus. So even as fans of the same band, our personal tastes can vary within.
chrisocony . That's the beauty of rock and roll!!
it's funny because for me it's pretty much the opposite. RET, pig lib and the first album are faves + pavement is better. but hey we both like malkmus and pavement so that's what matters!
You're not alone
My father figure, brother Dennis, would bring us venison from the fields and even roads growing up, and I like a song or two of the dead. I didn't study Tennyson as much nor listen to the Grateful Dead, but I definitely understand what it's like to be misread and misunderstood. My family had me read a number of books that most people over look these days growing up because they had masters in theology, like the book of Jubilees amongst other titles including Enoch of course, while most of my colleagues didn't make it past Mark... I thought it was a pretty cool song. I enjoy a lot of Stephen's music.
This song is so infectiously easy going I feel like everything is actually going to be OK when otherwise I might not. I've also fallen in love with the unattainable beauty in the video. The best kind of falling in love, of course. Impervious to reality!
Grapefruit Dead...... I hope they tour, need them more than ever. Hey Steve, Bob and David.... everyone else.... With the Royal Trux that's my dream show.
A Genius
Off one of my favourite albums
jesus, lord, malkmus is simply the best
The most beautiful women!!
the music... the women... i'm in love
Solid stuff Malkmus
Great work Stephen and you Jicks too!
A true genius
I like when the girl says stuff and the music is rad
I love the girl! Release another video overdubbed with her singing in french :D
Hilarious, so well made, great, great video!
Malkmus can do no wrong. Brilliant guitarist and lyricist.
I
look at all the beautiful fishes in this video!
Still the best video ever
This is possibly the most clever lyric video I've seen
Me too
a few bands i am remembering to buy a catalogue box when i am old.
Yess
You owe us an album.
Yay tasty new malkmus!
Let see those American tour dates, Jicks!
This reminds me so much of Weezer's Blue album sound, and that is a very good thing
+Jake Pendleton If it wasn't for pavement (which Stephen Malkmus was the frontman of) Weezer literally couldn't exist.
+Gorillameat Horsesmoney ahh very true, good point!
que homem
2024 and still rocks :DD
Candlebox: "lt's your choice, Malkmus. Open for us at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, or headline at the Hotel Wayne in Mill Creek, PA".
Call me pleasantly surprised by the quality of this tune.
I'm getting a Beulah vibe from this track
I think the important story here is that this is the 2nd time that "Tennyson" has appeared in a Jicks' lyric. (See Water and a Seat.)
people must always find things to complain about. who cares?
cool video. awesome song.
Way better than the chicks in those Whitesnake videos from the "8.D.D's." Not always "the best decade ever." Impeccable taste in everything, Mr. Malkmus.
So smart it smarts.
I agree this song is not particularly strong, but it just has that Malkmus sound, those casual rhymes, the sweet melodies and rhythms and smart(ass) lyrics.
Just classic.
Cheers!
Stephen Malkmus me adota
Oh yes.
here we go again with our pals
I could look at that face all day ,natural beauty.
The women in this video..."oooh la la"!
This was an okay french lesson.
How fucking dare this video be 10 years old!
Was this video recorded in France?
Also sebadoh 3 and zen arcade
Was that a reference to Foxygen?
FAR OUT!
Please I need your help to get Mathilde Baudour contact info.
that adorable little actress who dominates and interprets French for the first 2:40 of this vid needs to get a better agent.
Cheers!
oui si vous et moi
what city is this shot in?
I'm assuming, Portland.
That's Toronto.
❤️🎸✨🌹
Fuck. Great song
They have Nick Cave dolls?
....I waaant one!
yeah comfortable malky pop as usual
SM 4ever! =)
ainda ha esperança no brasil! esse cara é um genio!
The name of the actress with the headphones on please?
you won't get any porn with her
yeah she's so pretty anyone knows her name?
this band is a total pavement rip-off
Stephen Malkmus was part of Pavement????? Ummm... You're probably just a troll
It's still a Pavement rip off. We all love a Pavement rip off.
The first two comments whoooosh
Fuckin cool Tune !
Great sound ! If you like Indie music and find underground artist, I suggest you to discover a new one by writing *"Niko Laetailleurs"* in the you tube search bar. Perhaps, you'll find some good vibrations...
I've been abused, made homeless, told 250 a MONTH is 250 too much by the courts yet 250 couldn't cover one dinner in August for my abusive husband... permanent disfigurement is way more acceptable... a shoebill has been the only one talking to me! Have I been trafficked? Cause law firms are gone and it only seems to add up to one thing
seems like they are french / on dirait qu'ils sont français...
x
The typos in the French really bother me!
HD25 (:
Tweeted @musosguide
I think that's his wife.. I could be wrong though
David Fox nope
E BETH My wife???
So many pretentious fans..
It's just a great video in the tradition of making fun of the French while exploiting their charm, n'est pas?
wtf
nice tune...terrible video
no, nice video too !
This video is not bad but could be better... the song is kinda good anyway :) If you want to see a good Stephen Malkmus video, go check "Dynamic Calories"!
Кал.
god, this song's good but the French is so terrible :(
Don't say things like that.
i liked the song, disliked the video. usually malkmus puts out really great videos, but i think the concept of this one was a little dry.
So many mistakes
