I met Johnny at a Dallas guitar show and he was as friendly and acted like we’d known each other for years! He was so humble and down to earth.......compared to some of the other guitarists who were there who acted so annoyed that I would even approach them! Johnny at the jam smoked every other guitarist there and with a shit eatin’ grin as he did it! 😉🎸

Hello Johnny, i have a Telecaster player series and am thinking of changing string gauge to 13 and tune to Open D, as all my songs are composed with acoustic guitar in Open D.
Do you think it is a good idea? I only do Strumming, no finger at all.
    I appreciate your response.
    Thank you,
    Ángel.

I can't answer for Johnny but I would say try it and see if you like it. Open D will sound more bright on a telecaster than an acoustic but you never know what you might like until you try it. Let us know how it turns out. Keep Learning! - Steve

Johnny is just incredible. I would love to play like him. This is coming from someone who grew up playing strictly Heavy Metal guitar from the 80's. Now I've grown to appreciate other professional guitarists and their styles. By the way, what Brand and string gauges is Johnny using? Great video. Thanks.

Me too. Now I listen to Johnny Hiland, Brad Paisley, Frank Vignola, Guthrie Govan, Jimmy & Stochelo Rosenberg, Tommy Emmanuel, Joscho Stephan, John5, Paul Gilbert's newer style of playing, Stephane Wrembel, throw in some Michael Romeo & Yngwie for good measure...

Yes, check out Johnny's Loud and Proud project he did with Steve Vai producing. A great mix of country and rock.
