"ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - A white Florida woman charged with shooting and killing her Black neighbor told detectives that she called the victim’s children by racist slurs in the months leading up to the slaying, according to an arrest report released Thursday.
Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, admitted to detectives that she called the children “the n-word.” One child told deputies that the night of the shooting, Lorincz “came out of her house and gave the children the middle finger” and also said this: “Get away from my house, you Black slave,” according to the report."

Why isn't anyone calling this what it is? This is not 'manslaughter' - it's murder!
how we define crime is a VERY important thing.. the difference is quite stark. manslaughter and murder differ in intent. im no expert, but imagine being charged with murder for shooting through a door. perhaps you really were scared, or perhaps you just hated that person banging on your door. proving her intent was to kill with that shot would never pass the jury without undeniable evidence. killing someone on accident is still a crime and much more likely to be proven in a court of law. shes still a piece of shit who shot and killed someone through a door. and that fact will remain.
Hate crime… however judging from the sheriff looks like that’s a “protect our whiteness” kinda town so I’m not expecting that to happen. What I suspect will happen is she will get off on the “Stand your ground” BS.

How does deliberately shooting your neighbor result in a “manslaughter” charge? This wasn’t an unfortunate accident or negligence. She committed murder.
Because she shot through the closed, locked door, it can be argued she didn't know whom she could or would hit, hence the culpable negligence charge with it. I don't agree with it, either, I'm just giving the answer to your question.

@@dannicatzer305 Yes, it was actually 2 neighbors not being good neighbors. The kids weren't behaving very well. Then handled terribly by both sides. Once the racial slurs at kids happened, the mom probably didn't mind if their playing outside annoyed the racist neighbor. But a good parent should never encourage kids to have bad behavior, especially in retaliation. Both the adults failed the kids in mentoring of good behavior. The racist lady murderer should have been nice to the kids, and talk to the mom if she can help some way, but she really values her peace and quiet. But the gun panty equipment calls to the cowards to be used for it's intended purpose of manufacture. Guns change cowards into imbeciles rapidly.
Now that she has admitted that she's a racists person she should also get charged with a hate crime.

Hate crimes affect more than the actual victims of the crime, and are therefore considered more egregious. Have you ever researched a topic until you understood all the angles and implications? If you have that ability, research hate crimes. If you can't do research, it's an unfixable problem.

I'm not a lawyer, but given that the shooting was intentional, the victim was unarmed, and the shooter was in her house behind her closed door, so she can hardly say she feared for her life, this seems like murder to me.

hate crime is a separate charge and it is federal. Death as a result of a hate crime starts at 20 years and up to life, no parole. Feds bring the charge under the Civil Rights law, they never lose and are very active using this set of laws.

The US is an extremely violent country. Our gun death rate have actually dropped dramatically over the decades, but the reporting has risen due to social media. Unfortunately mass shootings have risen… and that’s largely do to the spiking rise in white supremacy inspired terrorists.

Because its harder to prove murder. Its easier to make a manslaughter charge stick. And a lot of cases manslaughter hold a more severe punishment. Now granted we'll see how it plays out in court.
@@presage23In most jurisdictions you can charge both. It gives the jury options based upon the guilt of the offense. Like you said murder is harder to prove. It all hinges on how a jury sets a standard of implicit reasonability.

Different states have different 'manslaughter' categories, After 1st degree it may be Man 1 or Man 2, other states just 'Manslaughter' as 2nd Degree Murder and then criminal wrongful death categories. Federal law has other and additional variations.

It's not murder as there is no evidence of premeditation. This was not a planned act. Manslaughter 1 is the highest they can go, and it is the right call. As for adding special circumstances for racial motivation, we can't prove she wouldnt have shot a white woman, and that leaves openings for the defense.

@@MartinOlminkhof I don't know how far away the gun was from her when she made the decision to grab it, or whether it was her custom to always grab a gun when someone knocks on the door. Based on what I know so far, I don't see enough evidence to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt. But I may have not seen something, or also there may be evidence we don't know about yet that will show you are correct.
