    • @sandrastreifel6452
      @sandrastreifel6452 4 года назад

      Maddy Fox: I always wondered how they use anaesthesia gases, but avoid contamination of the room air everyone’s breathing (from what the patient’s breathing out)?

    • @lethabrooks9112
      @lethabrooks9112 4 года назад +1

      Me too! I wanted to know what I looked like with a breathing tube in my mouth.

    • @Isabella_Gioia
      @Isabella_Gioia 4 года назад +1

      Sandra Streifel very good question! The patient breathes out through the breathing tube and that air circulates back to the ventilator, gets cleansed of the CO2 and goes back to the patient. This is called a semi-closed system! Some of the gases could still make it in the air of the OR though and for that there’s a ventilation system that swaps out all the air in the room multiple times every hour! This also comes in handy for other reasons, because many ORs don’t have windows/they don’t get opened to avoid the risk of contamination.

      @lanalafontaine1934 5 лет назад +6

      My mom has fibromyalgia too. It’s really hard to get people to understand the pain and how it affects you. I’ve learnt from her to keep my head held high when dealing with my anxiety and in general in day to day life. I know that sometimes it seems a little hopeless but just remember that there’s always someone there for you and you have to remember that you have to care of yourself before anyone or anything else. You are the most important thing that you have to take care of! There’s always another day to live tomorrow where it might get better and that’s all we could ask for :). ❤️

    My anesthesiologists had my husband support me (I learned on him) while I was curled over during the placement of my epidural🤷🏼‍♀️. I also ended up with a ruptured disc in my back exactly where he placed the epidural. He had to stick me twice and the second time was very painful. I wish you were my anesthesiologists. I ended up in an emergency c-section, so I was glad I had an epidural so I could see my son be born. You sound like you are really good at your job. I also didn’t know (and apparently neither did my nurses) that there was a medication for shivers while anesthesia was wearing off. I was shaking violently to the point that I was sore in my neck and shoulders the next day from trying to hold still. My first epidural experience was good, the second one sucked. Keep being a great dr. I know your patients are blessed.

    It’s so interesting to hear that laboring moms tend to act out more when others are in the room. I wonder if that’s true with people in general, if they’re in pain or are sick. Makes me want to check my own actions when I’m in that position in the future (or the next time I’m feeling ill!). How interesting!!

    With my epidural I experienced: the guy fainting in the corner (husband); the anxiety attack (both my heart rate and my son’s dropped and the whole team came rushing through the door... worst experience ever) and lastly but not least: the epidural didn’t work 100% on my left side (I had a C-section) 😫 !!! If there’s a next time, I’m sure I will do things differently. No more husband in the room, that’s for sure! 😂

    I love your videos. I have a ton of respect for your job. I had some scary complications with my epidural. As I understand it there was an accidental dural puncture, and I had a huge drop in blood pressure. They gave me reversal meds because I felt like I couldn’t breathe, or like I was on the edge of passing out. They redid the epidural, but it was one sided. I ended up in c-section, and we opted to take out the epidural and do a spinal. I had the super intense feeling of almost passing out again, like I couldn’t breathe. There were 2 anesthesiologists in the c-section, and they were wonderful. I know my experience is pretty rare, as most people I know had great epidural experiences. The spinal headache was kind of the worst ☹️! I’m pretty nervous about any future births. You have a wonderful personality for your job, from what I can tell! I was so glad to have friendly anesthesiologists, they helped me feel calm despite the situation! You guys are worth every penny of what you get paid lol.

    I’m an L&D nurse and its so cool to have the PYXIS machine IN the OR....ours it’s outside in the med room so if the anesthesiologist needs something they don’t already have we have to run out and get it which can be time consuming sometimes

      We have that too! But this is specifically an anesthesia Pyxis and it’s a GODSEND

    16:06 Your worst experience as an anesthesiologist. I had to skip that part. Here is mine as a patient. I was about to undergo an ECT treatment, and the treating psychiatrist preferred the use of Ketamine as the induction agent. I never did like Ketamine. It was slow, and unpleasant. Anyways, the anesthesiologist, unaware of the fact that I have a slower circulation time, and/or the fact that a higher dose works better for me, pushed the muscle relaxant BEFORE I was completely asleep. I just remember laying there drifting off to sleep without being able to breathe at all...the whole time thinking to myself, "This must be what it feels like to die." Unfortunately, I still tend to get anxious when getting ready to have a procedure where anesthesia is needed.

    I had to lol when you said "Anaesthesia always wins." I have only been put under once and I fought it tooth and nail. The funny part for me was that it was as if no time had passed, like I had just blinked my eyes. The recovery nurse had the fun job of convincing me that the procedure was actually over because I really didn't believe her at first.

    My epidural for vaginal birth felt like it worked for surface pain and touch but not inside. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I felt the checks, and then once moved for c/s I didn’t feel the initial incision but felt a lot once they were deeper. It was so weird. (And very uncomfortable 😫) 2nd baby was planned c/s & perfection 🙌🏻
    Awesome video! Thanks for doing that. 😃👏🏻👏🏻

    Great video! Very interesting and informative! I absolutely love anesthesiologists. They have all been very comforting, especially during c-sections. I enjoy talking with them during the prx. :)

    Your content is so helpful for me to understand my anesthesiology resident boyfriend’s world! Men operate so differently than women so the way he mansplains his paradigm doesn’t paint the clearest picture! Also wanted to share since you are an audio book maven- Counting Backwards by Dr. Henry Jay Pryzbylo is outstanding!

      I used to have a fear of needles too until I started having Spine and Hip Issues. Getting Cortisone and Trigger point injections regularly you get to used to it.

    I’m 15 about to be a junior in high school and have had anesthesia as a choice of career for a while now. I haven’t done too much research other than the amount of years it takes to become one but hopefully I encourage myself to take the risk and succeed (:

    Can you do a video on malignant hypothermia? It runs in my family out of 20 people in my family tested my mom was the only one that tested negative so they never tested me or my brother. We always tell drs about it bc even tho I wasn’t tested we take the precautions for it plus I don’t take to anesthesia well I don’t wake up from it fully for around 2 days

    Thanks for sharing your experiences, and your workspace layout. As you have underscored, in medicine, there are no certain outcomes. Taking call def requires a reliable support system for childcare and other family related needs.
