  • Since a dental implant is not an off-the-shelf product and cannot be simply returned or replaced, choosing one should be an informed decision. Dental implants should be non-toxic, durable, aesthetically pleasing, and biocompatible. But most importantly they need to be safe as they are supposed to be placed in the mouth and stay there for a long time. Zirconia dental implants are among the safest implant options as they meet all of the aforementioned criteria. That is perhaps why there is an ever-increasing demand for these relatively-new dental implants.

    I'm old enough to remember when titanium was considered to be 100% bio-compatible and hypoallergenic. Actually, that was only last year. In fact, most of the oral surgeons using titanium still pretend to believe it.

    A one piece zirconia implant will need a cement retained crown. Residual cement is the worst think for any implant. This is a huge downside for that design and it should be mentioned here and to any patient chosing between the two materials.

    • @hotmetal5
      @hotmetal5 2 года назад +5

      Since these are tissue level, it’s much easier to clean up any excess cement

      But you do not have to do one piece implant; by the way, one piece implants can be soft tissue level, not bone level so removing cement is not an issue at all

    I have 3 titanium implants without crowns that need to be removed. Not only were they placed incorrectly BUT I shave been getting rashes soon after the titanium were put in. Plus I can taste the metal and it is terrible. I already have a autoimmune disorder and now that I found out that the titanium can get into my blood and cause a bunch of bad things to my body. I just hope I have enough bone for the zirconia implants. God willing.🙏🏻
    How much would that cost? Would you put bone graph material in the bone and wait for it to heal before placing zirconia IF I have enough bone to use zirconia?
    Thank you in advance for your reply…I sincerely hope you see this post.🙏🏻

      I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience. Please do not lose hope! You can have e bond graft, it will take about 8 month to heal, and after you can have the ceramic /zirconia implants. I have received yesterday 2 zirconia implants, no pain no issues at all. Please make sure that you will do those kind of procedures with a IMPLANTOLOGIST /ORAL SURGEON only. Do not accept any dentist to perform any of the above. Also, make sure that you will receive a passport of the zirconia implant authenticity.
      Also, take out your metal implants and replace them with zirconium, for sure it’s going to be expensive, but health should be first.
      Best of luck !

      It seems there is a strong link between titanium dental implants (allergy or metal toxicity) and autoimmune disease start. Titanium alloys toxins are closely associated with the neuroendocrine system, or itching or urticaria problems.

      As far as I understand, it is not so much the higher risk of breaking 1 piece of abutment with Zirconia implant but also the fact that it is an "open connection" between your jawbone and gums and mouth. That is an "open" piece where the natural protection of a root of a tooth is lacking. Higher risk of infections etc. so it seems to me...

      @@melodyandbryanphillips8304 when chirurgical metal touches the skin for short period of time or just incidental, it can not harm, it's not the standard metal to begin with. Same with tattoos; also metal needles they use. But as long as the (chirurgical) metal will not be in touch with the skin for a long time, it's safe. I askes the Hospital Dermatology where i tested myself on Metal allergy. What is important are the fluids used to numb your gums. If it contains Sulfites and you are allergic to it, it is risky. Because in a procedure like this, a lot of anesthesia is used. Maybe more than usual... So getting tested extensively to which anesthetics you are allergic to seems to me to be more effective than short-term contact with metal dental materials, in teeth...
