    Bells sounds very interessant ! What is the date of casting of little bells (she doesn’t ring) ?

      the wee ones in the middle? a Sanctus bell (for communion) and a bell originally used for alerting fires

      The fire bell (the larger one) was cast in 1653. The Sanctus bell (smaller one) was cast in 1390. All details are on the Dove’s Guide link in the description.

    I don’t know why only in the ringing chamber it sounds like a boom but when you go to the belfry, you can’t hear the boom. Why?

      @JamesJoynson  10 месяцев назад +1

      The ringing chamber ceiling is the belfry floor, and it’s all timber, so you get the clapper knocking through the timbers

    The bell with the wooden headstock is a bit weird, any reason why?

    • @JamesJoynson
      @JamesJoynson  Год назад +2

      The larger one of the two, it’s an ancient fire bell. It looks like a huge bowl! It’s like an Asian bell profile. And produces the same note as the 5th of the ring of 8.
      The smaller one, just a standard British Sanctus bell

      @@JamesJoynson It's known as a beehive bell, and it is not common in the uk for bells to be cast in that shape regardless of it being cast in 1652.

    Considering they are composite clappers in the back bells, I find them bitterly disappointing. Almost no resonance from the back two. Mostly down to the non flexible shaft material so I understand. Timber shanked clappers would've been much better.

      @JamesJoynson  Год назад +2

      As they are plastic, I’d say they would have flex, but not much. I noticed they just don’t bounce to help them resonate.

      I agree. It also doesn't do a great favour in getting them up or ringing them as I've been told.
