Thats a theory If you look at it,once you shut a valve off,it take a little time for the water to go away, same for this mist,if it was caused by the sacrifice of his son,the military would have appeared much much later.
You're right about the water, but keep in mind we don't know the first thing about the Mist or what it is. Remember the scene where they lifted the rolling door and the mist stayed perfectly flat and didn't seep in? Maybe it did want expiation. Maybe we finally figured how to beat it. Who knows for sure? That's why the ending works for me. I don't believe Carmody was morally right...but the possibility that she was right regardless of her lack of morals and sanity...a perfectly horrifying end to a horror movie about human nature.
+Naughtius Maximus Uhhh, you realize that isn't the only part to the ending, right? The main character just offed his kid and three other people for no reason whatsoever. The best/worst part is nobody can really fault him for that. By the time the movie gets to that point, the audience feels how he feels - there's no hope, so either die by the monsters, or die by your own hand. They all (except for the kid) chose to die by their own hand. But the last bullet is a dud, leaving the main character to face the monsters, only to find out there are no more. He is going to have to live with the guilt of needlessly killing those people - and his son - for however long he lives. A sequel to that movie should just follow him until his eventual suicide.
+Cranky Turtle wasn't the ending different in the book its been a while since I read it and the mist had a 2nd ending its on youtube if u haven't seen it
The Mist Ending..??? It was one of the best parts of that film, as the guy who protected his child (& few others) throughout the movie in the end out of desperation uses the gun, after everyone decides they wanna die fast, instead of being eaten by monsters.. as he runs out of bullets, he chooses to step out of the car and be eaten.. only to find out that the Mist was clearing and the Army was "saving the day".. you could literally see pain in into after realizing that if only he waited another 30 or so seconds, they ALL would've been saved.. Now I thought it REALLY was dramatic, especially that he cared so much about his son..
+Sarah Territt nothing. but it was controversial in the sense of it wrapping up without any closure Chigur and ending with Bell telling aboit his dreams and then ending. I loved the ending and I know that's how the book ended, but a lot of people hated the ending.
+Jordan Brown Oh, I didn't know that people hated the ending. There's not supposed to be any closure, it's more realistic. In real life, nothing works out perfectly. But I get it now...
I thought the ending of The Mist was amazing. That might sound like a horrible thing to say, but it was a creative film ending that would leave people deeply thinking about what just happened for some time. The realization that the army was pulling in to save the day could have been stretched out a little more though, not immediately after the man shoots his son. I love how TWD's Carol is at the end...she's so badass.
The Mist ending is utter brilliance, I never laughed that hard in my life ever. Doubt I ever will laugh that hard from watching a movie ever again. Its pure brilliance. Also, there is a deeper meaning to it if you want it.
"... imagine if The Red Wedding fucked the Bruce Willis is a ghost. That's the kind of shock and awe we're dealing with here." Genius and classic. Keep it up.
Shawn McRoberts I remember the book portrayed them as dumb running into doors and stuff and the main character suspected they weren't natural- not products of any evolution. Something like a nasty looking mouth that would intimidate but would be useless to actually eat with. They all had a non uniform, twisted, randomness to them. Regardless dumb creatures or not they were countless and the mist obscures everything completely and was unaffected by wind currents nullifying any advantage of intelligence. The movie also ignored the part where the mist seemed to be driving people insane. Turning some into sheep and some into zealots. The crazy lady was forming a cult based on the mist and not just twisted christianity.
The controversial ending of „Planet of The Apes” was to be explained in a sequel that was obviously not made. There are many movies and TV series with unexplained endings because sequels weren't made.
Nothing controversial about Tim Burton's version of Planet of the Apes. It just tried to one-up the original and therefore threw all logic out the window and made a bizarre ending that only fools will try to make up an explanation for. Whether Deckard is a replicant or not in Blade Runner is almost irrelevant because the line between human and replicant has become so thin it's an academic question. One can even argue that the latest model replicants are more human than the real humans themselves. This is a recurring theme in Philip K. Dick novels - how 100% authentic copies of something is, for all intents and purposes, equally worth and that 99,99% won't know the difference. I saw the Inception ending coming a mile away.
"[Tim Burton's version of Planet of the Apes] just tried to one-up the original and therefore threw all logic out the window and made a bizarre ending that only fools will try to make up an explanation for..." I guess you didn't read The Original Novel, did you?!?
I thought the ending of "The Mist" was absolutely amazing! I view it like this: They were in a dangerous situation that was going to be the end of them. They lost ALL hope and Thomas Jane's character thought it would be best to put his kid, Andrea, Dale and the old woman out of their misery so they didnt have to face the sheer terror of being ripped apart by a vicious creature. IT was an action of strength, masculinity, and courage and his way of saying "You will die instantly without pain and I will fight until my last breath. I love you all. We tried our best and this is what I have to do so you dont have to suffer. THAT is how I view that ending. Its fuckin perfect.
I actually like the ending of I Am Legend. I always thought it was stupid that zombies would suddenly gain enough intelligence and compasion to simply want there friend back. Its also very unbelievable that they would simply spare him after they got her back as they out numbered him so greatly. As you said the ending should feel inevitable. The kamakazi at the end seemed like the only way to get rid of them for the cure to reach humanity.
That one would definitely be pretty controversial if more people talked about it. Is he really still nuts or did he choose a horrible fate to forget the trauma he's lived through? we'll never know...

Lost Highway. Had half the cinema I saw it at howling "what???" when the credits rolled. I kind of like it now but it takes some mindbending and possibly re-viewing to accept the - SPOILER stop reading if you haven't seen it... after this sentence - ...circle timeline of that movie.
The problem with 'I am Legend' wasn't the ending in particular. It was that they turned the movie into a somewhat typical zombie flick and the ending with the zombies/mutants coming to a peaceful accord with Neville wouldn't fit with any of the other zombie/mutant scenes in the movie. The ending they chose is the only way the movie makes any sense the way that it was originally shot.
The problem was, having seen the trailer several times before the movie, I figured the twist before seeing the film, the trailer pretty much giving it away, but the events that lead up to it was still pretty cool.
It would really help if you could put in the description the time in the video where you go to the next film. I've never seen all of them, and i don't want to hear anything about the movies that i have not yet seen :)
Seriously the ending of Man of Steel pissed so many people off that in the last battle of BvS they stop every 5 minutes to point out that whatever location they're fighting in is currently uninhabited. Literally EVERY time they switch to a slightly new location a character had to turn to another character and say "don't worry, it's completely evacuated!". It's not just a transparent move by the director to placate critics, it more or less evolves into an unintentional running gag.
Heh,and you notice in the Mist. Two actors from the Walking Dead are in it-Andrea and Carol. It's a shame that no live action Transformer movies were on the list
+Erik S Regarding "The Mist"...I just now noticed that the woman who asked for help to get back home to her two young kids, but nobody would do it, so she left the store alone. She's in the back of one of the trucks with her kids.
Kind of unrelated, but a video on controversial tv show endings would be nice. I imagine the recently-ended show, You, Me, And The Apocalypse would fit that.
I love the ending to "The Mist." To me it's tragic and is a brilliant subversion of the typical "hero retains sanity" during an apocalyptic event trope where he/she turns out to have made the correct choice. The film paints the crazed religious woman and her followers as lacking any sense of reason yet ultimately it turns out she made the correct decision. Truth is there is no "right" or "wrong" thing to do under such dire circumstances. You do what you believe is necessary as he did; he just happened to have had the coin land not in his favor (or suffered the wrath of divine retribution, however you wish to see it).
at 2:36 is that...Carol? Carol! She survived the mist and is surviving the walkers!!!Maybe they are in the same universe!!! Maybe the mist caused the Walkers!Just kidding, had to point out that Carols there
About The Mist, the crazy old lady set up a cult that needed to perform a sacrifice of a pure blood, which has to be the kid. So as soon as "the punisher" kills his son, the sacrifice is completed and the monsters seems to vanish and the army arrives. Was the crazy old lady right?
Frankly I'm getting sick of having to defend man of steel, but here we go. 1: " hundreds of people died" and were killed by zod. You know, the bad guy? Superman isn't perfect like he is in the comics and can't be everywhere. 2: "snaps someone's neck". Again, he killed the bad guy. The bad guy that was in the process of vaporizing two people. Was he seriously supposed to let those people die?
+Mike White Well that's why it controversal. As in, not everybody agrees. And yes, fine, your reasons hold water, but the problem was that with MCU we got such good superhero movies that didn't rely on gritiness alone to make a movie. Which is what MoS did.
Zain The movie was still fun, and Ant-Man isn't your typical superhero. He is a thief who was trying to protect his daughter. Plus the whole consequances thing doesn't exist in MCU. As evidenced by Avengers 2. I admit, it is a negative for the series.
+vcom741 I get it, but here's the thing: MCU has lost of destruction. Remember age of ultron? Hulk and iron man fight in a city cause tons of destruction and no one takes issue. Batman begins ended with batman letting Ra's al ghul die. I haven't heard one person complain about it
In inception in the end you can see the top about to fall and then the screen goes black...and leonardo had said if it is a dream the top would never stop and would go on forever... but again the question of why his kids haven't aged still alludes me
Ending with spinning top was to mislead you from question which Cobb asked his son " What are u doing? " .. and he replies - " we build a house on a cliff. "
That was one of the funniest endings I have ever seen, me and the friends I was watching The Mist with all started singing "all you need is a little patience"
The Mist and Planet of the Apes are definitely on my list of worst endings ever. Planet of the Apes' ending was so bad for me that I refused to watch any of the follow ups in the series. I also think that City of Angels should be on this list. That ending was horrendous, if not completely forced.
Eden Lake will piss you of, big time. Just watch it! Oh, and Time Bandits has got a pretty disturbing ending, considering you've just watched a bloody kid's movie.
Some good points. But a bit light on the controvesy. Where are those films that had half the audience fighting the other half with chairs ripped from the floor boards, with ambulances and riot squads being called the quell the quarrelsome queue for tickets to the last showing of the evening, with fire marshals guiding the fire engines to battle the flames in the carpark where its raining petrol bombs, and police helicopters taking ground fire from people who were pissed off the projector had "technical difficulties" during the last showing and thereby missed out on the last ten minutes of the film?
In the original book, Planet of the Apes, the astronaut does in fact return to Earth to find it in the hands of apes. It was Bolton the Charleton Heston movie version that had the whole thing set on Earth.
With the shaved head that was Andrea? Its scary how she looks like carol with the short hair at least ot me haha. Awesome to know their are a few TWD characters in the movie though lol
The ending of The Mist is perfectly foreshadowed. The crazy religious lady said that killing Thomas Jane's son would destroy the mist. And it did.
No what stopped it,is the military managed to close the door they'd stupidly opened.
And strangely they were only able to do it *after* he sacrificed his son.
Thats a theory
If you look at it,once you shut a valve off,it take a little time for the water to go away, same for this mist,if it was caused by the sacrifice of his son,the military would have appeared much much later.
Is it possible this movie is in the same reality as Pacific Rim with the Kaiju's appearing from rifts?
Ending of the Mist is a masterpiece.Horrifying and depressing.
totally agree, I loved that ending. such a gut punch. Adam taste in a lot of things is awful. I bet his iq is in the low 100s at best.

Just the ending. I found the fact that no one figured out that the animals were behaving like regular animals somewhat irritating

Logan smith Nice...never thought of that
Except its point blank said by the director that NONE of the theories are right.
I think the ending scene where Luke, Leia, R2-D2, and C-3PO are looking out over a freaking galaxy is pretty controversial.
I think inceptions ending isn’t about whether its dream or reality it’s about the fact Cobb has chosen to go with his kids
The Life of David Gale's ending got it absolutely slaughtered by critics and audiences. Just a huge middle finger of an ending.
Hey, you're using Danger Dolan's old closing music! Awesome video! I agree with all your choices!
I loves watching inception in theaters a second time, just observing everyone's frustration was great.

Love the Mist's ending plus it has Melissa McBride in it who is going to make some aliens look at shit before she blows them away.

that just pathetic
The Bee Movie ending was heart-breaking!

I'm not even sure what a replicant really is but they're making Blade Runner 2 and Deckard has aged there.
I like Mist ending
udo wantz you're right about Time Bandits...trying to find the video so I can show my kids
WTF... @1:55 Andrea from the walking dead?! Than at @ 2:35...Carol....from the walking dead?! :O
Wait... No 2001: A Space Odyssey?
+Majorbomper
It's not controversial. It's just fucked up.
***** To be perfectly honest, even with all it's accolades and praise...you're not missing much.
Danger Dolan outro anyone?
I loved the ending of The Mist, its like a big Holy Shit moment in movies...
I quite liked that ending too.
+Orby same
That was one of the funniest endings I have ever seen, me and the friends I was watching The Mist with all started singing "all you need is a little patience"
The Mist has one of the best endings I've ever seen in a movie.
No memento?
+Kurell Yes. Memento should definitely be on the list
+Kurell Or basically every Chris Nolan movie ever.
I guessed the "Pinteresque" plot from the "beginning." The "end" only confirmed it.
+SiliconBong Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring has come and gone
What about Vanishing Point?
In the part about "The Mist" was that fucking Carol from TWD in the back of that military transport truck?
In the original book, Planet of the Apes, the astronaut does in fact return to Earth to find it in the hands of apes. It was Bolton the Charleton Heston movie version that had the whole thing set on Earth.
The ending of Ex Machina really messed up my mind
The "last" bullet was used in the parking lot by the one guy who didn't get in the car. There were supposed to be enough for all.
Should have added hardcore Hanley. Still in theatres, should watch it. Was interesting.
Was that Carol from TWD in The Mist lol?
+AkiraSlayer There were a few TWD actors in that movie. Carol, Andrea, and Dale were all in it.
No, it's Andrea from TWD
With the shaved head that was Andrea? Its scary how she looks like carol with the short hair at least ot me haha. Awesome to know their are a few TWD characters in the movie though lol
oh okay I thought that was Carol I was gonna say mind blown there lol.
+AkiraSlayer Well, think. Frank Darabont directed it... He created the Walking Dead.... He probably went to the set of TWD and hired them.
The mist ending really fucked with me
I really yelled at the TV lol
"Burn after Reading!" If the lead wasn't played by one of the Coen Brothers' wife, the ending wouldn't have made any sense IMHO!
