This 92Y Wonderplay Conference presentation addresses major issues in early social development and the teacher's role in supporting it. Four different kinds of social difficulties that are related to positive social relationships will be addressed: insufficient impulse control, bullying, shyness and "off-the-wall" behaviors. Strategies useful for teachers for each of these kinds of difficulties will be outlined, described and illustrated and some suggestions for parents will be included.

Lillian as you may agree you're never to old to learn. All my life, I'm soon to turn 62, I have been a frustrated teacher and scientist. I love to learn about my (our) world and universe, I never seem to get enough. I'm an artist and have had the pleasure of teaching art to 2, 3. 4, and 5 year olds at a local 'y' through their 'Tiny Tots' program. It was an amazing and precious life experience for me. I couldn't help compare your many social behaviors of children to many of our candidates running for various political positions. It seems the adult population is dwindling and children do need to have the wisdom, guidance and a secure feeling provided by the adults, no matter what age the child. Thank you for sharing the leaf story, I learned something and will have a different perspective of the up come Fall Season here in Connecticut. I'm so glad your mom had twins. As Prof. Joseph Campbell told Bill Moyers 'Just follow your bliss'! Laurie Ann

It's important to know about education and social development in order to help our children to grow up being better persons, to change our world in a good way. I don't have children yet, but I intend to have soon, and I'm very concerned about how to make them make the difference. Thank you for the clarifycation. (PS: excuse me for my unperfect English, this is not my first language, I'm Brazilian...)

Too many parents want to be liked by their children so badly that they let go rules. To those parents, watch 26:54~29:54 about "Being understanding vs. Being Indulgent"
