I bought a 1090 (street) after seeing your review and BVG's on 44Teeth, love it but don't feel inclined to take it on anything more than simple gravel tracks. Fancy getting a nice lightweight 250 single to play about on.
+r6ymy yes gravelled lanes perfect, I think the 1090 is the one I would buy.. don't think all the tech adds much end of the day and the 1090 just feels at bit more manageable
Fun fact: Just ordered my KTM 1290 Super Adventure S like 2 hours ago... Can't wait till it arrives :D btw... the S comes with electronic suspension as well.

If nothing else you gave me a lift with a funny sunny ride. With all the green lane fail vlogs I've seen on Triumph scramblers and these adventurers it's seems clear to me, best get a proper light weight dirt bike. I can't see me doing the Dakar anytime soon. Great vid quality Chops!
You definitely need off-road tyres and you need to stand up more. It gets the centre of gravity lower down (because all your weight is applied to the bike at the foot peg level) which makes the bike more stable. And get rid of the rubber inserts in the pegs. Here in Australia, we take the big 1290 to way crazier places than your green lanes!

I use mine in place of a car and to replace several motorcycles, which it does brilliantly. This bike will effortlessly handle anything offroad that I wouldn't put knee braces on to ride, and it can easily devour most superbikes one a twisty road with ease (especially if bumpy). Think of it more as a trophy truck that can be used as a daily rider and you'll get it.
Chop, I am impressed on how you or anyone can manage a 500 lb. plus bike off road. Not my bag of tea. Better to have one less than 400 lbs, or 350 lbs. even better for such excursions. I respect those who go on trecherous roads on GSs or 1290 Adventures or the like, such skill. You must have been constantly worried about dumping, especially at your muddy overgrowth turn around point. Yeesh!? I prefer paved roads, but do imagine the freedom that adventure bikes offer.
