Thanks to you I was able to get a straight answer while looking for a battery that fits. Just got my battery soldered in (first time in decades that I’ve touched a soldering iron). Works like a charm.
Wanted to comment and say thank you for the video. I was able to order and successfully replace the battery in my controller with the help of this video!
I'm really glad that I was able to help. I thought it was an important video to make as I've not seen another anywhere that addresses this particular issue.
Haha. Yeah, I made sure I got one because I saw how handy it's been to many others online... and I'm not even American! My callipers aren't that great though, sometimes it adds 5mm randomly. :(

1.2k views and only 38 likes for great information like this criminal that’s what it is come on people support good RUclipsrs’ widge you have a new subscriber sir 👍
Thank you, that's very kind of you. I made this video after I failed to find any information about the controller's batteries, so after I worked it out I thought I should share it with the rest of the world. I only hope I can make other useful videos in the future.
No thank you’ I ordered my new battery’s last night just got to wait for them now’ I can see you love light gun games’ I am currently planning how I can make the arcade light gun from time crisis and some kind of Machine gun with recoil to work with my pc but not got cash to do it at the minute ‘ have you ever thought something like that ? You seem pretty knowledgeable
Maybe one day in the future, when I have the space, I might put together a dedicated cab but I have no plans to at present. At the moment I do all my emulation on Raspberry Pi so I don't know much about the windows side of things. But as for modern "lightguns", the Sinden Lightgun is amazing if you can get the camera settings dialled in just right, but you have to put up with a white border around the edge of the screen (a small price to pay). I hear the Gun4IR is also very good but you have to mess around with IR sensors and If you want super authenticity you could get repro Namco guns from china and put gun4IR into it. The Sinden Pedal was made to replicate the feel of a Time Crisis pedal too. Both Sinden and Gun4IR discord communities are very friendly places.
4.5mm x 18mm x 60mm seems quite rare a model... 402030 was very easy for me to find (used in several dashcams) but even 402060 was difficult to find in stock.
i love these controllers i wish they had an easier replacement battery thing you can buy like the pro version of the controller that looks like the ps4 ps5
Agreed. I have a couple of those pro+ controllers and, at the time I got them, 8bitdo weren't selling replacement batteries. I don't know if that's changed now, but at least you can use AAs in those too, like XBoxOne controllers.
I haven't had any luck finding replacement membranes for the L1 and R1 buttons for the SN/SF30 Pro, do you think its possible to switch to mechanical buttons?
I have a question...my sn30 pro controller stopped turning on, after I used the cell phone charger and went to sleep, something probably burned out, could it be the battery? or something else?
Well, it could be the battery or it could be some other component that's responsible for charging or power distribution, like a voltage regulator, but for all I know it could be anything. I'm not expert-level at electronics, just a hobbyist and a dabbler. I would advise that you first contact 8bitdo and explain the problem to them. if your controller is still within its warranty period then they will either repair or replace it, if it's out of warranty then you might be lucky and they may offer to replace it for you anyway (but don't rely on that). If you can't get any support from 8bitdo then it might be worth trying a new battery as the simplest troubleshooting step you could take. After that I don't know. RUclipsrs who specialise in electronics repair, such as "My Mate Vince" or "Stezstix Fix" (or another in your country if you're not in the UK), might be willing to make a video attempting to diagnose and repair it.
MANY THANKS!!! My beloved SNES30 (SNES edition SN30) non pro battery died and I've also been looking for a replacement. Do you have any spares? Whereabouts in the UK are you? Maybe I could pop by if by chance you're local and buy one from you
Thank you for watching. I'm glad my video is of help. I'm afraid I'm not willing to give my address out to strangers on the internet (I'm sure you understand). Since I made this video the 402060 battery has become available from multiple sellers on eBay, but the cheapest I see there is £9 which seems quite steep. I recommend buying a few from aliexpress if you don't mind waiting a few weeks for it to arrive.
hey after replacing the battery on mine, I am getting an orange blinking light on the top. It refuses to "turn off" and appears to be unresponsive. Any ideas? EDIT: NEVERMIND! I needed to keep it plugged in for a while to give it enough charge. Worked after that! Thanks for the guide though, really saved me and my usa snes version controller
The SN30pro doesn't have a battery level indicator except that the power led blinks when the battery is low. The green lights (maybe the bars you refer to) only represent the type of input mode being used. You should refer to the user manual for an explanation of the meaning of the lights.
Thanks for the video bro. I found a 3.7v 102050 1000 mAh battery the same size as the one in 8BITDO on AliExpress, do you think replacement is possible or could there be a problem? Thanks.
That number tells me the dimensions are 1mmx20mmx50mm. Very thin. It'll certainly physically fit in the cavity, but I'm suspicious of the 1000mAh rating. Less than a quarter of the size of the original 8bitdo battery, but over twice the capacity. I hope it's true. Mind you, with batteries that thin you could fit more than one in that space, wired in parallel, to multiply the capacity.
@@widge Thank you very much for answering me, I don't know much about the capacity of batteries. 1000 mAh can be a scam, really. Didn't know you can fit two batteries in one 8BITDO FN30, can they be soldered on the same pole connection lead?
Essentially yes, but unless you know what you're doing I would strongly recommend against trying multiple batteries. Do some research first about the difference between wiring batteries in parallel and series. The last thing you want to do is accidentally inject double voltage into your controller. Good luck with those batteries though. I really hope they are as advertised. :)
Thanks so much for the correction. Yes, you are correct! It's confusing that some measurements are in millimeters and others are in 10ths of millimeters! 😵💫
Are the batteries of the 2.4 Ghz 8BitDo M30 & SN30 controllers also user-replaceable ? Please make a video on those.. as they are pretty popular to use on MegaSG, Genesis or SuperNT/SuperNintendo..
I don't have any of the 2.4GHz versions of these controllers, but my assumption is that they would use identical shells to the BT models and therefore the same batteries would be used to fit into the cavity. However if you plan to replace the batteries in yours, I suggest opening them up to confirm. If the cavities look different than in the BT one shown in my video then measure it and find a battery that will fit. In the video I explain how the reference numbers of these batteries relate to the physical dimensions. I do have a M30 (bluetooth), not shown in this video as I acquired it after, and I've opened it up to check and the battery is the same as the one used in the SN30Pros and the alternative I suggest will also fit. One more point to make, the batteries aren't officially "user-replaceable", if you believe your battery is failing and is within warranty (usually within a year of purchase) I recommend contacting 8bitdo about a repair/replacement. Replacing the battery yourself will most likely void your warranty and should only be done if your controller is already out of warranty.
As long as you can fit it into the space available. Unfortunately there's not much wiggle room and more capacity usually comes at the expense of a greater volume. The battery I found advertised a *slightly* higher capacity and it was thinner so it might be possible to find a thicker one with maybe a little extra mAh.
can you please tell me the name of that gun your using to replace the battery or whatever you want to call it? how much does it cost? and where can i get one?
It's just a soldering iron. This one in particular is a "dremel" branded gas-powered iron. Any soldering iron should do as you only need to detach and resolder two small wires battery wires. Gas irons are generally not the best as you don't much control over the temperature, but it does the job here just fine.
I decided to cut out the first and last few seconds of the video to remove those jingles. I figured they probably annoy a lot of people, myself included!
I imagine so, as long as you make sure the replacement battery is of the same type as the original and fits in the cavity of the controller. However, I 've only looked inside the SN30Pro and SF30Pro so I don't know what batteries are used in other controllers. Hopefully the information in this video about how the battery number code represents the physical size of the battery can help you.
Too bad. The surgery was a success, but my particular issue doesn't seem to have been with the battery at all. There must be some other fault that causes these controllers to brick themselves. 'Above my skill level at this point.
That's a shame. I'm not aware of any prevalent bricking of these 8bitdo controllers and all of mine are still going strong. I'm sorry to hear that yours has this problem ☹️
I hate how all these consumers love built-in batteries. I've been against it my whole life. Playstation fan boys are the worst. " xbox sucks they still use double as" they don't last as long and you have to get a replacement. I've got a bunch of 8bitdos controllers. It sucks to know in the future I may not be able to find replacements and have to mod the shell or something. Aggravating.
Those PS fanboys don't have a clue! The fact that Xbox can take AAs is a massive bonus. Yeah I can use a proprietary rechargeable battery clip, but if my battery dies in the heat of battle I can just grab a couple of AAs from a drawer in a heartbeat. 👌
Thanks to you I was able to get a straight answer while looking for a battery that fits. Just got my battery soldered in (first time in decades that I’ve touched a soldering iron). Works like a charm.
That's awesome to hear. I'm glad you found it helpful and were able to save your controller.
Just commenting to say that thanks to you I managed to change the old battery of the sn30pro, thanks a bunch!
Thank you. I'm really glad you found it helpful.
Thanks, super helpful! I was able to find similar batteries for my old NES30 Pro controllers, which use the same batteries!

So cool. Think i need one
