Excellent video Mazzy, I didn’t realise that photography of / by the Beatles was such a passion of yours (or that there were so many Beatles- related limited edition art books out there). I would have liked to see you interview / have a discussion with Paul on this subject. It would have been a new angle. If Paul sees this and decides he is interested in this as a subject (as it is at a slight tangent to his new book), well, you never know… Greetings from London

Fun! Great theme for a post. Of course as a photography teacher/photographer, I love seeing all of these great artists discussed together. Mike's recent books is so amazing. Astrid's early images also so iconic in capturing that early era. Incredible to think she shot the fairground images a mere 2 weeks after meeting them! My copy of Paul's new book is arriving soon. I think the photographer who often stands out to me is Robert Freeman. Many of his studio session shots, especially, have a beautiful modernist way of organizing the elements (akin to Arnold Newman's famous shot of Stravinsky). Thanks, Norman! I hope Paul does circle back to discuss.

While Paul was taking these photos, The Beatles were surrounded by official photographers and Paul snapped photos of some of them too. Photographing the photographers. So I agree that would have been an interesting avenue to explore, because you could point to his photos to spur memories of those photographers.

Sorry but I’am miffed that they are charging $30 to see Paul’s exhibition of his photos at the National Portrait Gallery in London😢. I have a full collection of Bubble Gum cards of the Beatles from 1963/4, I’am not sure they were taken by just one photographer, I believe they came from NEMS! One of my favourite photos is the inner sleeve of Beatles for Sale, with them in front of a montage of different film stars taken at Twickenham Studios. I’ve often thought this may of influenced Sgt Pepper. I know the cover was shot by Robert Freeman but I don’t think he is credited for the photo? I used to get the Beatle Monthly Book magazine, I always thought they had some of the best Beatle photos of the times 😊

the two roberts, mccullin and strangely enough, linda are the photo books i'd most like to borrow for a day. as far as tucci goes, i'm tempted to say his best work was in the "muppets most wanted". he's admittedly a decent actor but in terms of being a beatle scholar and photography expert, you are "penny lane" while stanley is "ebony and ivory" (no offence to stevie wonder). it's ironic that a hollywood actor would bring to mind the country song "if hollywood don't need you (honey i still do)" by don williams. my variation is "if sir paul don't need you (sir ray davies eventually will)". great video! awesome book library!
