- On this day in 1963, US President John F Kennedy attended the last day of a two-day summit in Forest Row in East Sussex, England. As well as attending talks, Kennedy was received by British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan at his family home of Birch Grove in West Sussex. The president also made a visit to Our Lady of the Forest Church, a Catholic church in the New Forest area. Before boarding Air Force One to return to the United States, Kennedy made an address in which he spoke of the close relations between Britain and America, as well as the upcoming diplomatic mission of US governor Averell Harriman and Lord Hailsham to Moscow (a mission that would result in the historic Partial Test Ban Treaty of 1963, also referred to as the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. It would be President Kennedy's last visit to Britain before his assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald on 22 November that year.
