The JX3p was my first ever synth when it came out! Sold it many years ago like many of us did back then when we wanted to upgrade... at the time I needed to be able to have piano samples for a touring band I was in. But I just found one locally again for $400...I'm inspired to spend some time with this beauty.
This synth has always been praised for the string/brass/pad sounds you can get from it. Everyone who has owned one has talked about how it's not really a bass synth.
If you own one try this: Use the inverted envelope on the filter instead of the regular envelope for bass sounds.
You're more than welcome!!!!
Good tip, might try it on other Roland 80s synths.
starting with golden brown = i'm sold
i like one of these sounds.
Nice programming. The trombone at 22:10 is very nice. The JX-3P has that sizzle the other Roland synths of the era don't have. Earned it's special place in synth history.
I owned this synth since new in 1984?? and you definitely got the best sounds out of it, well done.
5:45 Very nice accordion analog sound ! I have a JX8P with iPG800 and this inspires me a lot to look for a sound like that.
the sounds are super warm and distinctive..Cool demo
I love the sound of the JX8P, but I must say the JX3P sounds more alive.
At 10:22 I think i used this patch in the eighties. Stunning sound!
sounds really nice, love the patches!
Sounds most excellent!
Danke! Paldies!
2:36 is amazing. it reminds me of that breakdown on "Short Circuit" by Daft Punk : O
throw some gradual sample rate reduction on there and you're golden
the 8 bank sounds beautiful!!
Very cool. Good on you!
Fantastic sounds!
I had one of these at the end of the 80's and early 90's. Only thing I see different is I had a little box you'd plug in (programmer) that sat on top of the printout of the programmer. It was a really nice set-up! I'm just a guitarist, but I had a LOT of fun with that thing! Nice to see yours!
I just bought one of these on ebay. I cant wait for it to arrive
Thats awesome!
In the songs "Separate Ways" (1983) and "Oh Sherrie" (1984-1985) and "Easy Lover", the Roland JX-3P patch "Chime" was heard.
Also, Harold Faltermeyer's Fletch was done on either a JX-3P or JX-6P.
@@isher9035 6р?😂
great chops
I like that organ !!
my favorit synth with my favorit song !! cheers m8'
I love the styling of this synth.
Yeah, it's so 80s it's got racing stripes!
I like your sounds
Great Stranglers tutorial! I liked D-7 a lot for some reason, and D-1 hah!
Excellent you have really brought this synth to life. Always thought of as a poor mans Juno 60 it has an amazing sound of its own and very versatile.
In some ways it's better... a 2x DCO synth!
Overall, pretty good. I really like the accordion!
Amazing synth!! And presets!)
I love most of these sounds. Would you be willing to share. Cheers
Hey TausendAugen,
I enjoyed some of your sounds, and especially liked that you played Golden Brown by the Stranglers at the beginning. First song I taught myself on keys!
The sound at 14;42 that is almost an identical reproduction of the main synth line in Yaz's song Goodbye 70's
I really like the sound that starts around 19:08...
Danke! :D
19:07 OMG it's the sound from Legowelt's Elements of House Music! Beautiful.
My first Synthesizer was one of these back in 1984 :)
Same! I actually saved up money all summer long on college break to buy a Juno 106. I got my last paycheck from my summer job and went to the music store only to find out the Junos were back ordered for months! The guy at the shop said "if you've got a minute we just got something new in the back that I haven't unboxed yet"... It was the JX-3P...and far be it for my 20 yr old self with $1300 burning a hole in my pocket to go home empty handed!
the laser gun bit
I actually programmed a phaser sound in mine too. It was so long ago that I don’t remember how I did it..ha ha. The patch is still in there to this day.
I also love the patch at the 24:00 mark
Great synth.. and paired with a BOSS CE 2W or better, with a Strymon Big Sky or Mobius, you won't need anything else!!!
great video and some nice sounds.- do you have a patch setting list for any of them?
yeah 2:57 shows how underrated the JX-3P is. One of my favourite synths.
I've done this to mine - makes a difference. Though it's a matter of tastes tbh.
17:32 , great sound!
Also great sound at 11:01 and 11:02 and 11:03 and 11:04 and.. and.. and.. and.. lol
6:26 think you nailed the intro sound on Saga - On The Loose.
The patch starting at 6:22 is really great.
Stranglers, very tasteful :-)
awesome sounds, is there any way you can upload patches somewhere in tape wav format?
Hallo, die Kommentare sind überwiegend auf Englisch.
Aber Sie sprechen ja auch Deutsch.
Besitze auch noch analoge Keyboards.
Einen KORG Poly 800 und eine NOWATION Bass Station 1.
In ihrer Demonstration vom Roland JX 3P
gefallen mir die Sounds bei Minute 19.30 und 23.42.
So etwas kann mein Poly nicht bringen.
Danke für das Video.
The Stranglers :)
Anyone who doubts that the JX can sound better and more dynamic than a Juno, get a listen to this. I used only a JX and Big Sky for this. soundcloud.com/capferrat/eq2
Dave Kuhn this is amazing!
Yes very nice -Inspiring retrospect of what this synth is capable of doing!
Oh, I forgot one thing Mr TausendAugen: CHAPEAUX!
Pretty cool sounds, how do you edit them? Do you use a software ?
07:57 I LOLed. Nice!
7:24 Nice
I like the sound at 15:03
I am interested in getting one of these or a Juno 106. Can anyone with experience with both models comment on the pros/cons of each?
golden brown! :)
Brilliant demo! How much does it weigh approx.?
is this what Clannad used in 'Legend'? Some say it was the JX-8P but it came out too late, so guessing it could have been this.
That Akkordeon at 6 min and Hand Organ at 8 min are unbelievable!! Never thought my JX-3P could sound so natural. I desperately need to know how you did this. Would you mind giving some advice?
Thanks for the demo. See the Roland keys are full size, so that one's big plus. Like that little polka number ? you did at 5:57 minutes.. Another question about this Roland product, can it be used with any type of amplifier or does it require a special amp? From your demo, it appears that this instrument is producing awesome sound affects. Yours truly, is just an amateur player looking for the right synthesizer.
Wauw I Just Love Your Patch Creations You Did A Very Good Job.
Can I Load These Via System Ex
In My Jx-3p?
8:29 nice swell pad
Hi - Does your JX-3P have any modifications or upgrades? Which effect unit are you using?
Nice JX bro. Really like your sounds. I like to use saw on one oscillator and pulse width square on one, both at different octave settings, can this be done on a JX3P?
2:25 is nice
I really love C4 at 02:25! Could you tell me the parameters you used? Thanks for posting that great video (I just got my JX-P3 today so I'm discovering how to program it)!
Haha the piano Patch sounds better then the romsound of the D10 ;)
What synth is the intro « electric guitar »? Thank you.
Was this video made before or after you modded the resonance?
5:50 ❤
I wilo be bettet getting tye dound modules of JX P3 and D 05 snd a mid controller, really donthavr space to put them all in a small home
Hi, im really new to the analog world so bear with me here. Is there a way to use synths like these on newer software such as logic pro 9? If so, what kind of cords/cables would i need?
Months later:
You could use basic midi from a DAW to control note on and off function on the JX-3P. Its an early midi synth, so the capabilities are limited. You could also record any sounds the synth makes into your DAW if you've got the correct hardware. So a USB audio interface, as well as a USB midi interface, with correct cables, would be all you need to control the synth, as well incorporate these sounds into your projects!
Cool sounds in your little intro. What did you use to make those sounds?
Reason 4 ;-)
Was that Lucky Star at 7:43??
Sounds better than the new Prophet-6 for $2,000 less.
+Michael N
well... no
ahahah someone wish they had 3500$ :P
well... it depends on what you mean by "better".
idk i was at a prophet-6 (the new one) demo w/ dave smith himself no effects and it sounded absolutely huge
I totally agree.
Hi!
Hast Du so etwas schon mal probiert?
What's the name of the song in the intro ?
my first synth..the only thing my band ever did was an extended version of the Dr. Who theme song for 50 minutes..yeah. not great...
2:23 how do you get that wonky detune effect I love it
Just put a slow LFO on the pitch
20:30 whats that song ? can't get out of my head since this vid :)
Anyone know of any good VST virtual JX-3P instruments with pre-programmed sounds? I want that authentic sound when recording with the USB keyboard through my mixing program. Ideas?
Well, anything similar. But yeah, be rude.
I understand. I think for me though, I was just looking for something that sounds similar. I compose music through software, soundtracks and retro-themed music and I'm always looking for good VSTs that would suffice for a more or less "80's sound". I know it's not the same but close enough will do. I've had luck in the past with other emulators but the JX-3P has such a great sound I could only hope someone had made an emulation that would sound even close to this.
This is an ancient comment, but the PG-8X is a very good FREE VST that emulates the JX-8P which is similar to this.
I bought one of these when it first came out. I still have it and I still play it. Can you tell me how you programmed the patch at the 19 minute mark?
gives me the chil bought one in 1983 unfortunately i sold it to a friend a big regret
Buy another? They’re not that expensive even now
Hi, do you sell your sounds?
how do i make my own patches without the PG200
DOT BLUER the slider and parameter buttons. It’s more work but once you memorize what buttons do what you can edit fairly fast
🔥🔥 can you shift octaves on the jx3p ?
Both of the 2 oscillators have octave settings.
Also at 19:14
How do we know it's good? It's Roland, from the 80s!
# 12 is great!
My fav sound is at 23:42
Sounds like it was used in bloodsport.
Is this polyphonic van you play chord ?
6 voice polyphony
1:00 schönes pad
bonjour !
golden brown - the stranglers
The DCOs kills it imho.
That depends on what you want to do with it. I have an original prophet 5 that sounds HUGE, but I also love these crappy, cheap eighties synths. They’re the sound of my childhood. Use what you love
5:47 - I don't want to stereotype, but...
Cheap sounds here I'm afraid!
