- A look back at the Top 20 quickest VW Beetles that I filmed running the 1/4 mile in 2017. Some of these cars will have run quicker times over the year, but these are the runs that I managed to film, and therefore make up my Top 20 for 2017

Boy brought back memories. In early 80s high school i had 68 cal bug, completely tricked out. Ran a 2084 pulled low 11s street legal. Cruzin in cenral valley was a blast.
Hope to make it on your list this year (probably SantaPod VW action). Nice and steady film work!

Awesome video. I love my 2180cc pwrd street driven sand rail ( old-school invader chassis). My best so far been 11:80 in the 1/4. I love the look on all the faces when it leaves the red light on the back wheels for 3 gears. Again great video.

@@VeeDubRacing . Thanks. I've owned many bugs , rails, manx buggies . I even have a air boat with a VW motor . Fun to build for a reasonable price, Air cooled ( no water hoses to leak) and if you do the pushrod tubes right the first time there will be no problems there either.
The sound of a bored and stroked N/A vw with 200hp and a stinger exhaust is music to my ears
I know what you mean, I see a lot of cars on the track, but still love that NA beetle sound 💪💪
@@VeeDubRacing yea I was surprised seing some N/A cars putting down faster times than some turbo cars....I'm building a 76 but it has gotten more expensive over the years if you are not doing the labor yourself...
I was watching some drag racing videos from Argentina. Man, they love their drag racing down there especially with old Falcons and Nova's with the straight sixes. One guy in Fiat 600 n.a. did the 1320 in 9.5 !

In the early 90s i had alot of fun with my 2275. Old man tricked my heads out for me. Beat alot of V8s from light to light. Im from cali. But moved to Missouri. Them country boys laughed at me 4 cylinder. I had the last laugh. Lol
I am older now...... built my first performance '65 bug in 1974, parts were just coming out, cyclone purple people eater exhaust and holley bugspray carb. Built another 65 sedan in the early 90's, 1776, thick wall cylinders and delorto carbs, fiberglass tilt front end. Honestly, in the U.S. they were faster than these, on average. The bugorama's in Sacramento had huge amounts of bugs running in the mid 11's with full bodies and all. The bug during the early 90's was by far the cheapest way to run 11's in the 1/4 mile.
20k worth of Bug for 12 seconds is getting too expensive.
Remember when bugs were for the budget racer?

the list is missing the norwegian Skinne beetle, an 8 second car on an original VW floor pan and with a flat 4 aircooled engine ..

Santa pod must have a shirt stopping distance to the end if you need a Parachute at 130mph my car ran 170 in the 1/4 and I didn't need a chute
It is recommended that there is a secondary braking system for all vehicles travelling faster than 150mph, this can be a parachute or mechanical braking system in addition to a hydraulic system. Some cars like to test them to see if they are working, even deploying them at lower speeds. Run off is long enough. The fastest run down Santa Pod was over 330mph !!

lol, what was you watching....there was only about 3 races, where a Beetle didn't win !! But, either way, these were the races where they got their best times, so I have no control of who they are up against.

The one at 9:06 looked like a 9 second car but it was NOT,lol.
I dropped mine down in second gear one night because a car was tailgating me and I thought he was going to hit my stinger pipe and snap my head bolts. He got flame thrown and went in the ditch, turned out it was a detective and pulled me over. Well I let him pull me over,lol.
Mine was a 71 Super Beetle (but I had a 73 as well) Bored and stroked bus engine and bus transmission with 40mm IDF Weber side drafts and street legal except they said it wasn't if I was able to melt paint off tailgaters cars,lol.
I have Seen one do a 8.3 sec with a boxer engine

@@VeeDubRacing As a previous owner of a 57 Chevy with a corvette 327 under the hood and a 76 corvette L88 with 450 HP it’s hard to take VW Beetles serious. VW Beetles just do no not breath the air as muscle cars. Let me make this clear from a guy who had more NHRA class winner stickers on his cars more than postage stamps you have used. Drag racing a Beetle is equated to racing in motor cross with a child’s tricycle.

Not sure where you hatred to the VW beetle is coming from, maybe you have been beaten once too often by them. What times are you running? and do you actually know, how quick beetles run?
