- After a very long wait, our Binson Echorec (number 35 in the production run) finally arrived, but was broken!! Given how well packaged and sturdy this thing is we put it down to being damaged during delivery (it's not the first time it's happened to us...).
Anyway, this one has to go back for a replacement so no audio examples unfortunately. However, before returning we decided to do the video anyway and take a close look at the build and features. When the new one arrives we can do an audio-only video.

Interesting video, and thank you for the honest comments. It does seem that their QC and shipping process need improvement.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, we agree it needs improvement.
I would have liked the control knobs along the front ! ...but still a great pedal.
Oh no! That sucks. I was really a little underwhelmed with the build quality for the price. Obviously that is subjective, especially cosmetic aspects, but the originals were very solidly constructed and it doesn't cost much to bend sheet metal or to get parts properly vacuum moulded in China etc. My other main downer is that this appears to have a solid state preamp,. I know some of the later Binsons were also solid state but those never sounded as good as the valve pre-amp models from the late 60's. Again for the price ..
Looking forward to your review when it comes!
Oh gutted! Hope you get the new one quickly
Thanks for the comment! Yeah we do too, fingers crossed. I really want to get an audio vid up! :)
@@shuttersound-berlin I’ve got one on the way too. 🤞it’ll arrive safe.
Bullshyte that they put you to the back of the line.
Have you played an original unit? I am sorry that it came broken because I'm really curious how it sounds.
Thanks! I haven't, but an electronic engineer friend of mine had one which he always said he would fix and never did. I think it was less broken than this one! :)
Stencilling looks imperfect all over it which is unacceptable IMO for a $2k piece of gear. Disappointing. Thx for the video!
Why are you kissing their ass, if they can't even ship a $2k item that doesn't break in transit?! 3d printed head with rough unpolished surfaces? That's not something Marcello would ever approve!
Thanks for the comment. I like to think that we reviewed this constructively but agree that there are some manufacturing aspects that need attention. I also agree that it should be packaged better for transit. T-rex did reach out to us to show how the issue can be fixed but the procedure was invasive and shouldn't have to be done on a newly released item worth this much. Something as simple as a small piece of supportive foam under the drum would keep it from moving, but it doesn't really inspire confidence if you were touring and carrying it around for shows.
@@shuttersound-berlin Since I'm nowhere near in texas, I think shipping's a real risk.
What was the procedure? Anything they mentioned in their promotional setup video?
It involved lifting the drum and using a long screwdriver to reset the pinch roller. It’s down to the individual as to whether or not they feel they ok to do it but unfortunately not the point. If this is a known issue then a support of some kind would be required to ensure it doesn’t happen, something that could be reattached to secure it when transporting to gigs or taking on tour. For us this would only be used in a studio.
If it showed up damaged and not working then why make a video?
