  • After several years I return to one of the signature games in this channel: Hard Truck Apocalypse - the top tier slavjank post-apocalyptic vehicular combat RPG. This playthrough, however, is very different, because I'm trying out a mod called "Possessed", which promises to turn the silly trucking game into psychological horror.

    This nearly hour-long video on a mod I have never heard about, to a game I have never heard about, brought to me simply by falling down a RUclips rabbit hole, made me want to by a Windows XP compatible PC again and just stop my clock and go un-perceived into that good retro gaming night.
    Please, don't stop making stuff like this.

    Author of the mod here. I probably need to apologize for the wall of text, but first of all, thanks for making this video, I certainly haven't expected that from the English speaking part of the community :----DDDD
    I think you did a pretty good job overall conveying the feeling of misery the mod provides, but there are few things that I'd like to clarify just for the sake of it:
    - The description of the mod on moddb is somewhat of a meme, by "hardtrucker" it means literally any member of the HTA community, which I think hits the point just perfectly. Playing this mod is literally a nightmare. But honestly I would go as far as to say that the whole mod is actually a big meme, and to provide context, I have created a trash mod in the past, that people in the Russian speaking part of the community know me for. And to add to it, the mod's development started from me making a video "HTA but the main character has schizophrenia". I decided to capitalize on the work already done and use the changed cutscenes I made for the video in a new mod. So, in the end that's how this mod was created. Because I was really bored.
    - There is a true ending that perfectly sets pieces in place but to get it you basically need to complete all quests from original game. I think it goes without saying that this mod is not meant for the first or even second playthrough of HTA :--DDDD
    - To sum up the whole premise of the mod without really spoiling anything: you are playing as an explorer whose mind has been partially taken over by an Entity. The Entity constantly tries to completely take over by applying different effects on your "vehicle". The vehicle itself, as well as the goods scattered around and the gas stations (which start to explode later on), can be interpreted as the last bits of sanity and willpower of the main character. These resources are finite because the Entity is much stronger than the player, hence why it calls the main character "inferior". Silly, amirite? The plot itself is carefully written into the lore of the game, so there is an actual explanation which you might need to deduct yourself. Or get the good ending in the mod, which explains everything :---DDDD
    - The soundtrack is from the vanilla game, but it uses only the alarm themes, instead of the whole sets of driving, alarm and combat themes.
    - I think the most important part of the mod are the changed cutscenes that depict the main character as a schizo. Genuinely hilarious, but I guess only so with the background knowledge of memes in HTA community.
    - 22:22 this is a bug. Knocking this lamppost should've completed the quest iirc. I'm pretty sure I checked every single quest in the game before release to see if they can be completed, and everything worked fine. The game's triggers can be funky at times and not see the object that needs to be destroyed, might need to look into it when I'll be working on the update for the mod. Just to clarify though, the choices that you make in the main quest line do not matter, the only thing that matters is whether you complete all side quests.
    - The path that the ghost truck takes is always the same (its speed is random though), so you can *kinda* strategize it. Kinda, because it's brutally hard in the narrow passages of the jungle, but there are detours that the ghost truck just never goes through.
    - 44:55 it's just a thing with this particular object (a big ol' jungle tree), it has an enourmous collision for some reason. I've always been aware of this, and decided to leave that in for the meme. Btw, the mod barely adds any new objects and models to the game, so most of what you're seeing can be found in the base game's files.
    P.S.: Without a shadow of irony I really appreciate that throughout the video you compared videogames created by professionals in the field and a really obscure mod created by an amateur. Because I believe that they *have* to be treated somewhat equally, and modders always need to strive to improve their mods for the better player experience. I have to admit that this is something that I'm lacking, and I'll somewhat try to make amends for that in the future update of the mod, but again it'll mostly be experimenting with what can be done with the game and the resources it provides. The update will also convert the mod for the Community Remaster, so that's something.
    P.P.S.: The possessed mod is not my first war crime against HTA community. You're lucky the Жёсткий Апокалипсис Грузовик (Hardcore Apocalypse Truck) hasn't been translated to English, effectively locking you out from experiencing another atrocity that is my mod. I think I have to change that. I'll make sure to provide an English version of that mod if it gets updated in the future :---DDDDD
    P.P.P.S.: Gotta say, I liked the format of the video, will be great to see something like that about other obscure mods for other even less known games from you in the future, keep it up!
    P.P.P.P.S.: Maybe the hallucination of a warship that you saw in Krai meant something... Wonder what that might be.

    You're so enjoyable to listen to, that even listening to you go on and on,
    about a confusing mod you hate of a game I've never heard of... is still good lol
    .
    Have you seen the game: "Jalopy" ???

    C: this reminds me of the 'garfield without garfield' comics in a way. also winapp still exists! That is kind of cool, but weird.

    i only seen screenshots of this game
    now it turned into this pay2win F2P grindfest called crossout

    • @JankbaronDom
      @JankbaronDom  9 месяцев назад +4

      I have to admit that Crossout is pretty fun, but it is too greedy for its own sake. It being profitable also lowers the chance of a proper single-player sequel :(

    • @Nogardtist
      @Nogardtist 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@JankbaronDom a single player crossout can work and the only competition is a game called terratech
      i dont think theres an extraction car pvp game
      they even ignore the potential with leviathan super cars where its not only controlled by bots or rarely played by clan vs clan
      and co-op open world adventure mode is slowly being ignored cause the reward is way too low and the side missions way too repetitive
      there is a mad max game but it has low replay value but there plenty car building games
      so a real crossout game gonna have hard time keeping itself afloat in that market
      to make it more interesting it could be pvp where a player are their own clan kinda like rust or V rising where pvp is unpredictable and often becomes risk vs reward
      its like imagine vangers gameplay but with modern graphics and gives the ability for you to build your own monster car but instead of bots its all players
      but ideas comes too easily and its a problem making them practical

      Thing is I prefer single-player games with a story by a lot. HTA had a nice world and style going on.
      Mad Max game was a lot of fun, but my main let down was that you could only really use the one car. It would've been so much cooler if you could permanently steal cars and upgrade them.
