Oohhh, that dune colour is so pretty and you did so well picking a seaside with the selection!! It really looks peaceful. I also love the layering that you did for the flower - looks like multiple petals with one sweep!!
Your channel is one of the few that i subscibed to, and the first i consult when buying anything. Also ive just started (today in fact) of watching every one of your vids from the begenning. You channel is hugely underrated and is a must for anyone investing in both thier art and/or supplies. In short, you are fabulous.
I appreciate that, thank you! I know that not everyone is interested in the details I cover like pigment ingredients or lightfastness. Some only watch painting videos for step by step art tutorials or simplified fun product summaries/unboxing, but no matter how many people sub I'll still put out thorough reviews for my fellow artists. I'm sorry ahead of time for some of the pacing/music/beginner video making issues you may notice with the old ones. I hope I've gotten better at video making over time lol. Happy painting :)
I was distracted by another your video so I forgot to leave a comment here : ) I really likes your approach to these new colours and suggestions on their use. Also it was very cool how you used water blooming to suggest sea foam. Nice demo.
I'm in love with that Ultramarine deep and Neon Pink 😍. Just ordered my White nights pastel set and I can't wait until I can get that cutie Neon pink and Ultramarine deep tho
i think neon pink + mint caput mortum + ultramarine would be delicious for limited palette duos kinda wanna try mixing the cobalt chromium(?) with the perylene violet
I just bought the pastel colors yesterday in my local art shop and realized that I have to go there again to pick up some more new colors minutes before I watched your video.
😁 There isn‘t a thing like to much watercolors... I also found out that my collection is missing two Quinacridone colors as well. 361 Quin. Red and 622 Quin. Violet Rose
Since they already have an Ultramarine with the same pigment, PB29, what would you say they differences is between the new Ultramarine Deep and the regular Ultramarine? Is it just the amount of pigment? Thank you for your videos 👍👍👍
I've seen some of the new colours announced only today, they look lovely in you mixes and paintings. There are in total 9 of the pastel colours though. As someone who loves caput mortum, I have to get their version too. Thanks for your review and the lovely paintings. Great technique on the flower petals!
Thank you. Just in case you missed the video for the first 6 pastels that came out in late 2019, I reviewed them here ruclips.net/video/Lm30DeWDN24/видео.html Happy painting :D
Hi Kimberly, you're following White Nights for a long time now. I'm doing some reviewing for myself, swatching, adding new colors, comparing the data from the old color chart with the new one and adding the staining and granulation. I stumbled on Hansa Yellow, was PY1 LF *, and that's how I classified the wrapper also with this info, being now PY154 LF ***. Have you any knowledge of this and other different formula in their existing paints? I was a bit suprised because I didn't read nor hear about it yet. I don't know if I will buy more White Nights soonish, since I'm so happy with my Roman Szmal collection (60 pans), still swatching and studying... But it's so nice to be able to learn about the paints one doesn't have yet... so maybe I might choose one or two new WN tubes or pans... Your paintings are rather convincing :)
Roman Szmal paints are so beautiful, you definitely made a good choice! White Nights is even cheaper, and sometimes they have colors you can't find in Roman Szmal or other brands though. Thank you so much for pointing out the recent change on their color chart. You are right, it appears they are making a change to make their yellow. I assume they wanted it to be more lightfast. This is the first I'm hearing of it, all of my old pans were PY1 not PY154. I don't think they should have done that though, they should have made a new yellow called Benzimidazolone Yellow PY154 to not be so confusing. I have never seen them do that type of change otherwise, but they have had some lightfast problems over the years. Maybe they are trying to be better about offering pigments that won't fade.
Hi, KR and Kimberly! According to the new White Nights colour chart they did change the pigments for several fugitive colours. They changed the pigments for Hansa Yellow, Vermillion and Scarlet to make them lightfast. While this is a good thing to do and they are going in the right direction, I think Kimberly is right. They should have just made completely new colours and name them accordingly with all these new pigments. Or at least they should have let people know about these changes making a special announcement.
Hey Kimberly and Aly, gosh time flies - I went through 40 the colours that I have and found the changes in - Hansa Yellow: PY1 * -> PY 154 *** - Yellow Ochre: PY43, PY1 ** -> PY43, PY154 ** - Carmine: PR: 170:1** -> PR19*** - Indigo: PBk7, PB15, PV55 ** -> PBk7, PB15, PV23 *** - Raw Sienna: PBr7*** -> PBr43 *** - Payne's Grey: PBk7, PB15, PV3 ** -> PBk7, PB15, PV55 *** Transparency & gran. stay the same But certainly for monopigment colours, when you totally switch pigment and just keep the same name.... they should have re-named it.
I am sad about the Cobalt Chrome Turquoise. Advertised it seemed like a bluer version of Cobalt Turquoise, kind of like the two Cobalt Turquoises in the Roman Szmal line, but it reminds me more of DS Manganese Blue Chromium. Good thing I decided to watch this video before I bought two pieces of this color :') All the other colors are nice though🧡 I think I'll get most of them, but first the pastels!
The pink was super fun to use. I just compared the ultramarines, and honestly there is so little difference between them it's hard to tell at all. I would have hoped that the deep version would truly be darker, but at least in my pans they are not far off. They also dilute to the same color. I'll let you know if I notice anything different after playing with it more :)
Just got a few more of these paints and wondered if they changed their Formular recently....especially their caput mortuum seems a lot stickier than some of the other colors I've gotten from them
It's possible that they are just really new or were shipped through an area/stored in high humidity. Because of the honey in their paints sometimes they are more sticky when fresh, particularly with new release colors. I haven't noticed any significant change in formula though.
I want to try this brand. Your reviews are so good. I was wondering if White night watercolors are for artwork to be displayed on walls? Or what it's the best brand to use for watercolors?
It depends on which colors you pick. If you want to get one of their 36 color sets, then you can see which colors would fade on a wall in my lightfast test video here ruclips.net/video/4I_UiF9zHP4/видео.html and if you are going to pick and choose individual colors just avoid those ones. Almost every brand of watercolor offers at least a few fugitive colors that shouldn't be hung on a wall. If you don't want to have to worry about that, there are some really reliable pan sets from brands like Van Gogh for the student grade option, or Sennelier / Schmincke / Daniel Smith for the professional options. No matter what you decide, if you look at the company's online color chart there should be lightfast ratings per color. I would always avoid fluorescent colors (neon/opera pink), aureolin, alizarin and prussian regardless of ratings if you pick individual colors, since these tend to have the most problems. I'll also be doing a video soon with the lightfast results from all of the newest White Nights releases like these that came out between 2019-2020. Hope that helps :)
In the past they offered more fugitive pigments than they do now, and in recent years have replaced several of those older colors to lightfast ones. They now have about 70 ish colors and only about 10 of them have any lightfast issues. For these new colors, it is too soon to verify their lightfast ratings for these, I check fading at about 3, 6 and 12 months. However, I can tell you that almost every color in the new releases use quality lightfast pigments. The exception to this is Neon Pink (which is true of any color called opera or fluorescent) which fades in any brand. I do have a video covering which of their colors are fugitive if you're interested it's about comparing two of their 36 color sets (fading chart at minute 8:50) of ruclips.net/video/4I_UiF9zHP4/видео.html
Kimberly Crick Art Thank you for your reply! I have always wanted to try white nights but I like to display my work so lightfastness is a big issue for me. But thanks for your information, I have more confidence to try white nights 🤗
I have dunes pan, and I really like to mix it with other paints, especially indigo, turquoise and quinacridones. It beautifully mutes colours.
I have to agree together they make awesome beach scenes and will round out my collection nicely! They are in the cart now lol.
Oohhh, that dune colour is so pretty and you did so well picking a seaside with the selection!! It really looks peaceful.
I also love the layering that you did for the flower - looks like multiple petals with one sweep!!

Wow! Amazing👌👌👌😍😍😍
I love your color combination 💖💖💖
That sand color is very nice.
Your studies came out very cute!
Your pink neon flowers are beautiful!
That layered pink flower is so pretty. Lovely colors you have, informative review. I am yet to use it, Good day and keep creating.

i think that out of all the addition batches white night has released, this is top of the charts (in my personal preferences anyways)

*breathes* new impractical purchases call out to me...
Hope they will stock up here in Istanbul 🤞
