  • What an amazing piece of music! I liked it so much that I did an extended version of it.
Not an easy task, since what makes this theme so awesome are the slow build-up and the change of pace to represent the 3 phases/transformations Gascoigne goes through.
I tried to keep the the first segment very close to the original except from looping a few parts here and there to make it a bit longer. For the rest.... I went crazy, just like the frenzied beasts in Bloodborne.
    I hope you enjoy it!
Now stop sitting infront of your pc/mobile/tablet and start playing that jewel of a game!
All credits go to the insanely talented people at From Software, Air Lyndhurst Studios in London, and the dude/gal who composed this.

The true hero of Yharnam was Lenny, the blind chapel dweller. Idk what his name is, I just call him Lenny. He was genuinely the only trustworthy person in the game.
In fact, if he teamed up with all those blue, bulbous Dr. Zoidberg things, they could become an unstoppable force for good, cleaning up Yharnam's streets and dealing with all the werewolves and pompous sewer pigs.

i thought his fight was absolutely brilliant. He is pretty bloody hard but it really set in the players mind that this is not like any of the other souls games. Even Cleric beast you can use the typical souls strategy of playing keep away until you get a good opening, not so much with Gascoigne. If you are not fast and aggressive with this guy he will make you bleed, and really alot of the games enemies are like this but he is the first real boss in this game that challenges your play style and forces you to change in order to overcome him.

    • @Kuonluw

Funny how we got to the same conclusion for the cleric beast (Souls type boss) but in complete different ways. I stuck to my Dark Souls way against it : always hog its ass.

I feel like Gascoigne is such an underated character and really doesn't get enough credit, I mean, yeah, he is one of the starter bosses and one of the weaker ones but he has dialogue, he has a story that takes place in the presence unlike other bosses whose events are already said and done.
Not to mention if you think about it, Gascoigne's quest and story is really emotional because he clearly doesn't want to be a beast and not just because they are his sworn enemy but also because he has so much more to fight for than just that, he has a wife and two daughters that he clearly loves very much, his hunting partner and presumably best friend, Henryk (Who I honestly theorize is "Granddad" that the little girl talked about) and he is clearly fighting the beast within him, like whenever you play the music box I feel like you can really see the human side of him try to come through as he is clearly fighting it and after his scream of agony when you kill him you can hear a faint but audible "Forgive me" like he regrets everything and feels it is all his fault, it's even sadder because you don't even know what he could be thinking then and there, what will happen to his daughters? Will he see his wife in the afterlife and if so could she ever love him again after what happened? What about Henryk?
I am rambling at this point and I know that I am probably overanalyzing this but if you just think about it beyond just what you see visually then it goes so much farther and makes you question more and more and feel worse and worse about killing him (even though it had to be done).
Gascoigne for these reasons is probably why he is by far my favorite character in Bloodborne.

As a huge fan of retro video games and long time video game franchises with iconic characters, I was very DAMN surprised how much I was connecting to the world and characters of Bloodborne, it’s rare for me in this day and age with how unoriginal and greedy new age video games of this console generation were becoming, but while playing Bloodborne for the first time, something that I had seemed to lose had come back and that was FUN, JOY, EXCITEMENT and lots of Intrigue. I wanted more Insight and this game had given it to me in high toxicity amounts and I found myself in a frenzy. Especially when I learned of the great hero of Yarnum during that time, and how many beasts he had killed, and how the town spread his legend through it. I was instantly hooked and then learning that the town and it’s hero was doomed, I got more invested and I felt bad and scared to confront the hero that was beginning to slip into insanity and transforming into the very thing that he had been hunting to kill ever so skillfully, he was becoming a beast, and it was sad to see. This video game conveyed a great story for a very great character at the very beginning of the game in probably an hour’s time, and they did a phenomenal job, they made a character that I got attached too and I really wanted to keep on playing this game and moving forward through it. I believe that Bloodborne did a way better job at making a “heroic character” that had a tragic downfall into insanity and becoming one of the most memorable villains/bosses of a game and portrayed in all of media, than George Lucas did with Anakin Skywalker in “Star Wars Revenge of the Sith”, yup I said it, sorry Star Wars, I love you and your legendary universe, but in my opinion, Father Gascoigne’s tragic downfall into a villain was done a whole lot better than Anakin’s downfall. I know many will disagree with me, but it’s cool, everyone has different opinions.

  • @Latooni11

You know, I love the From Software games. I have played Demons Souls, both Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. I have enjoyed each of these games immensely. (Though in my opinion, DS2 was the weakest of the bunch.) There is one thing I've noticed about their games though as I've played them over and over. I'm a person who gets pumped up by high energy, high tension boss themes. The boss songs start off as my favorite kind of themes. But as the game goes on, although the quality of the music doesn't dwindle, the feeling shifts from Energy and tension, to atmospheric and emotional. Although not a bad choice at all, I tend to prefer the early boss themes.
Again, not saying I dislike the songs of the end bosses, but it would be really cool to fight something as challenging as say, Orphan of Kos, with a super high energy song like this theme here. (I really, really like the Cleric beast's theme too.)
    Agree? Disagree?

    • @sethdemirjian6259
      @sethdemirjian6259 8 лет назад +8

the reason they do it is to signify the sad end of the journey as the more and more you trudge through these games you realize whatever happens will always be sad and an upsetting outcome. this goes for all souls games.

Depends on the fight’s role in the story. Something like Gascoigne is meant to be intense and fast-paced because you’re in an intense fight for your life, while a theme like Gherman’s reflects the sadness of the battle and the situation you’re in.

Oddly enough, this being the first boss i faced BEFORE encountering the Cleric Beast, i had the Hunter Pistol and a +3 Saw Blade, and i managed to get him down to half health, having only 1 Insight at the time which i guess i received during the fight for dying to him? Idk, but i managed to get his pattern down after a few attacks and got the parrying on him somewhat down (was parrying half his attacks, but only got about 4 pretty weak Visceral Attacks in before he finally killed me.) I decided to hold off on killing this guy and found the Cleric Beast while farming Blood Echoes, died to it twice, killed it on the third try, and after getting back to Gascoigne with 3 Insight and a better Skill number, i can't seem to keep up with him anymore. The first fight he was barely using his gun, which made me wonder if he even had one. Now, he seems to use the gun quite frequently during back steps. He's a lot more agile. Still can't beat him.

His theme is amazing’ he’s hot (i’m a simp for this man…) the fight was so fun and challenging, i love it! Before i even touched bloodborne i found out about this guy and i instantly thought « i must fight ». Fresh off elden ring and barely prepared for what was to come with Bloodborne. Can officially say tho…bloodborne is better than ER for me, tbh.

It's good, the ending is a bit confusing, but other than that it's great.

well it's still like a souls game where the ending is really open ended and a lot of the story relies on your interpretation of the facts given to you in the game plus the story is a homage to HP Lovecraft so there really shouldn't be a "good" ending I'm totally surprised the game didn't end in the hunter killing himself like so many other Lovecraft protagonists

I meant the soundtrack, nonetheless you're right despite not knowing any Dark Souls game on my behalf, but hearing the rumors, which match your response.

Do you have a version without the speaking at the beginning and just music in it?

+Dr. I cure you with my Kukri Would it be too much to ask for you to make a version without the beginning dialogue? If it's too much of a hassle I understand, I just want to be able to listen to it on repeat and it sounds a bit weird showing up when the music repeats for me. Again if you don't want to do it don't worry about it.
