Tips On How To Set Timing On BMW 335i N54 Engine

In this video we are building a BMW N54 engine. You will see the process from the beginning of it on this part. The engine from the car was having a bearing knock inside and we overall it and we bought new bearings.

Hey there so my intake and exhaust cam speed sensors are still in line, but the flat surfacing on exhaust is at 3 o'clock and intake flat surfacing is at 12 o'clock, did my car jump timing when the crank hub bolt came completely loose?

Hi. Did you try to put back the tool to confirm if everything still lines up, if not, i believe you will be out of timing.

Hello I just did the cam ledges and seals on my N54. It sputters and will die after about 30 seconds. I'm not getting any codes and on my scan tool my intake cam position is 60 and my exhaust is at -130. Are these within proper spec?

Ive never checked the cam positions with a scanner on my engine, but what I’ve done is make the camshaft and the sensor plate with a white marker, both the intake and exhaust, crank it a couple of times to see if it goes out of timing. Ive also noticed that if your vanos solenoids are not getting the correct voltage, the sprockets will keep going out of timing.
