There was a car wash when I was about 7 years old in Surrey where my dad and I would go get the X5 cleaned. And that was the first time I saw a Ferrari Enzo.
Just a simple car wash and this guy every Sunday would take the enzo out for a morning blast at 6am and finish up at the car wash at 9am before putting it in the garage. Was a lovely guy let me sit in it and chat cars, he would hop out have a cig and let the car wash lads drive it through the bay system they had.
Next week should have a good half of it dedicated to Gandini .Best design. Discuss.
2 Car garage
You are fast approaching middle age and it has hit you hard. Your house has recently been completely paid off and you just got a big bonus from work. So now there is money burning in your pocket. Your current 2-car garage was selected by ChatGPT, and it consists of a diesel Skoda Octavia and a Mazda MX-5. All in all, a very safe and sensible 2-car garage. But now you are done driving around in safe, ordinary cars. You want to stand out, you want kids to pull their dad's arm and ask "what's that," you want something to get your heart rate up every time you drive it and something nobody else has in the car lot. So your partner has agreed to give you a budget of £150,000 to spend on a sports car and a family car for your fat Labrador and your kid to replace the Skoda and MX-5. Neither of them must be boring.
PS: Spending £149.000 on a sportscar might leave your partner less than happy. Thread carefully.
sad thing is that the Skoda Octavia diesel and the MX5 (soon the be purchased) is my exact 2 car garage...though i do intend getting the MX-5 Rocketeered.

I worked on the Helicopters at the British GP in 2004 ish and Schumacher had just won. Anyway, Various drivers had come though and I’d strapped them in, shut the door (plus a drunk Tiffany Dell) and then Schumacher appeared in front of me. Never has a human being exuded such heath, success and power. He was positively radiant. Oh, and the free clobber they all had was amazing - many sets of the finest golf clubs were loaded up that Sunday afternoon.
I get the impression that Manish has a better understanding about the depths of unsavoury and salacious off track behaviours of various F1 personalities.
Of course he does, he's mates with Bernie.

You have recently started new job and finally have some disposable income. Your new company allows you to pick your own company car with a maximum cost of £40,000. (Remember, co2 emissions are key for P11D value and Tax calculations). You travel the length and breadth of the country for work so fully electric won’t quite cut it yet. You’re a life long petrol head and can now treat yourself to a second car. This second car must be fun to drive, can seat at least 3 comfortably and preferably manual. This can be cabriolet or fixed roof. For this fun vehicle, you have £20,000.

Good question. Perhaps it is because lots of us tend to listen on the podcast app rather than watch it. I mainly pop in here to read the comments - like this one!
Rich dads tend to pick prettier women. Driver tend to have richer dads. Or it's really mostly racing talent from both parents and then you get the new world champion who won't get off sim racing between gym sessions while other F1 stars are living the jet set lives.

You're 49 and live in Bristol. You have a budget of 100k for two cars.
As an ex mechanic and having spent some time back in the day spannering on a few national and club GT cars, you feel now is your time to go racing.
Your first car can be any age but must already be built and eligible for a current race series in the UK.
The second car will be used for shows and the occasional tour around the UK and Europe. As a long time admirer of the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost AX201 and the 'Blower' Bentley, you will be looking for a 4 seater open top tourer no newer than 1949.

You are a vengeful and scheming government minister. You’ve been around Westminster for a while now and want nothing more than the top job. There’s only one problem; the role isn’t vacant yet.
As such, you plot your mission to simultaneously discredit the current Prime Minister whilst raising your reputation with the general public. You use your extensive automobile knowledge to renew the ministerial vehicle fleet- which falls under your authority as Transport Secretary.
The first car you choose will be assigned to the Prime Minister as a replacement for the Jaguar XJs and Range Rovers. It needs to be practical enough to gain approval from the Met Police but embarrass its occupants whenever they get out of it.
The second car that you choose is for yourself. Whilst discrediting the PM every day, the car you drive must be as likeable and admirable as possible- gaining respect and affection from the general public and petrolheads alike. It must also, of course, be British.
The budget for both cars is unlimited, however may play a part as to how distasteful the PMs ride will be.

Yes, we see it elsewhere too, when celebrity males marry beautiful models: lovely offspring (as Manish said). Google Oliver Bearman's girlfriend - she is beautiful. She may have the perfect face. Oliver is nice looking - their offspring would be good looking.
The opposite side of the same coin is Max: both parents were very good racers and he is an outstanding racer.

I only listen to the podcast while driving around.
And, most times, I find Mr Manish sound quality is below par and clearly below the quality of the other fellow addicts. I don't know if it's anything to do with his internet connection quality or his microphone.
However, listening to this YT video I don't find the same low(er) quality as in the podcast.

Have only recently discovered this amazing channel and hugely enjoying it: witty, British, educated gentlemen of a certain age and the natural, intelligent banter, not pre-scripted like certain television programmes. Might I suggest: why don't you excellent fellows undertake a road trip, with Go Pros, and don't short change us on the tomfoolery and hijinx?
Four of my favorite guys (whom I've never met) picking the cars I have and have had. Current two-car garage: S63 Cab with only 17K miles (black and luscious saddle brown); Range Rover Sport HSE with factory 22s - looks great on the road and does light farm tasks when I don't have the time to get out a big truck or tractor. Formerly had: 512TR (shockingly easy to spin those super-wide rear tires, but dead sexy); 348 Challenge that I raced here (US) and Europe. And I completely agree with you that the California T is a fine car - screw the snobs, there is always somebody richer. For me, the S63 is more understated, which suits my faux English country/up-country (WS) lifestyle.

There is 'modern slavery' (also known as slavery) at some hand car wash places. In addition some don't want your custom because they are, as mentioned, a front for money laundering and they don't want extra cash to deal with.
This was an especially sparkling episode (no pun intended given the focus on detailing this week).

You might want to try the ceramic car wax spray cleaner. Excellent gloss and nothing sticks to it. Not only do I use it on my daily drivers but also on the Corvette, Porsche and antique Plymouth.
Top chat as always. Discussing topics most of my friends would have no interest in but it keeps me entertained every week.
Anyway, the F1 chat is interesting. I don’t think anyone really enjoyed the Lewis years for the racing, or the Schumacher years. You remember the legend, but not the racing. What happened when Lewis won in 2015? Or Schumacher in ‘03? Does anyone remember without google? What we miss are the racing years, and it’s why 2021 and Lauda/Hunt, or Senna/Prost, go down in history - fans want racing, not domination, whoever wins.
There’s a guy opposite me who literally blow dries his car every time it rains and gives it a ‘quick detail’ after every drive.

As a tribute to the legendary designer Marcello Gandini and a cheeky tip of the hat to THAT Citroen ad let's imagine you are a designer that has left the powerhouse that is Bertone and gone out on your own. You've worked with Renault, Citroen, Lamborghini, Maserati, De Tomaso and even did some work for Bugatti but they went with a different design so you won't allow yourself to have one of those insipid wagons.
You need a sports car to take to the many automotive and racing events you get invited to and you need something to impress your clients when you drive to their factories or when they pull into the carpark of your design studio so it must be striking but also practical. You must get both of these for under £150k as spending any more would just be too ostentatious.

For bird shit you 1) need to get to it as soon as possible, especially during a warm sunny day 2) Get a bottle Glass Cleaner spray 3) Take a paper towel and fold into quarters 4) spray glass clear liberally on paper towel so it's soaking and place on bird shit. 5) remove after about 15 - 20 mins it usually comes off but if really bad you may need to repeat.
Haha, you definitely shouldn’t use glass cleaner and paper towels on your car’s painted surfaces. If the poo has been baked on by the sun then you can dab on some car shampoo and let it sit for a few minutes, but otherwise a wet microfiber towel will work just fine and won’t remove ceramic/wax paint coating and scratch the clear coat like a paper towel would.
Speaking of, if you have a layer of ceramic or wax coating on your paint already, as you should, then you can simply rinse off the poo and go about your day.

Exactly. McLaren's road cars are quite unique. Priced just around Porsches, but carbon monocoq.
McLaren would have an main advantage doing a carbon EV pitched against Porsche's Caycan EV.
Tesla's motors are on the heavy side now, but their Plaid battery pack seems great value for money. A Plaid battery tucked inside a McLaren carbon box, a bit like Rimac did, might save hundreds of kgs over what Porsche would do.

F1.....Yes, we all have our favorite drivers and teams but some of them, who I won't name, return, remain, are not impressive. The "lesser categories" are stacked with young talent, who quite clearly add an exciting dynamic to racing and let's be honest, F1 desperately needs a shot of something and Oliver Bearman isn't the only young driver worthy of an F1 seat. I'm sure to create a torch bearing mob by saying so, but lets make a few seats available and start the ball rolling by arranging a "leaving party" for Mr Ricciardo.

Is it just me or are auto gear selectors for Manual mode. The wrong way round. My BMW auto box in manual mode is pull back for up shift and push forward for down. Just doesn’t make sense for me. Shouldn’t it be push forward for up and pull back for down. ?????
It changes depending on the manufacturer. Sports cars tend to be in the same orientation of your BMW as you're aligning the movement of the gear selector with your accel/deceleration. It's also how a sequential gearbox is set up.
Nope. It's almost always pulling back is up shift. It's easier to change gear under hard braking and acceleration.
BMW is actually one of the few that do it right. I cannot ever wrap my head around the “push for upshift” because growing with motorcycles and watching rally, “away” was down and pulling the lever towards you was up. And it’s how g forces work too, so it makes more sense.

Manual vs Automatic. If it is available in manual buy the manual. In 5 to 10 years' time, when half the cars are electric, the manual will feel so much more special.
Totally agree with your thoughts about tinted windows - as an L322 owner I’m not keen to look like a drug dealer - but do you think there is a car that actually looks better with tinted glass?
For the 2 car garage, I would have gone to the Middle East like CH, but instead of a Landcruiser, I would have gone for a Nissan Patrol Nismo.

I think sadly, it's impossible to rank drivers who drive different cars. Imagine i higher a track for me and 9 of my friends. We all have different cars. Maybe i have a GT3, other friends have Golf, MX-5, Civic, etc. i win i pull out a lead every time, because my sports car is faster than the cars my friends have. Does that make me the greatest of all time ? Would Hulkenberg hold the record for most poles if he had been driving the Mercedes or RedBull, maybe he is the greatest driver of all time. All, we can really be sure of is who makes the fastest car each year, best constructor.

Calling Ron Dennis Ronald somehow felt almost blasphemy. But it also sounded like real-size figure. McDonalds has theirs (also Ronald), Michelin has their, and if you think about, Ronald McLaren was actually lifesize figure, just in a living real person. Mr hard to deal with, but only satisfied with perfection like F1 was. That would really save the company from current - bloody front fell off - quality and imago.
Here in Darwin Aus its bat shit if left for more than 24hrs it will eat the paint most cars here have white under coat blotches on them.

With new technologies coming in, transmutating carbon into oxygen exhausts, the main reasont to go for all-electric is gone. Hybrid still make sense, at least to me. You can deny progress, you can deny technologies you're yet to become familiar with, but it's coming. Imagine sticking it to the activists, that your LOUD car is way greener in every sense than their virtue signaling Tesla.

Chris..."lots of places to overtake"? Really? If that were true then Magnussen wouldn't have been able to hold them up. Personally I think the track is poorly designed - and too dangerous! I hate to say it , but this will be the track where, after a shunt into a wall and the car is blocking the track, the next car through will hit that car at speed and someone will die.

Guys, I love your podcast and look forward to it every week but it drives me nuts when you make the financially illiterate comment that the announcement that Lewis Hamilton is joining Ferrari in 2025 had any effect on Ferrari’s market cap. Please stop making such an ignorant comment. Ferrari’s market cap increased because of a strong earnings announcement and strong outlook for the coming year. The Hamilton announcement was the same day but it had zero impact on Ferrari’s market cap. I’m a shareholder and a 30+ year Wall Street veteran and I tell you with 100% certainty that only results and future outlook matter to the market value of a company.
