I love this car. I have had it for around 7-8 months and have over 20K miles on it with zero warranty issues. Cold starts have not been an issue. Left at the airport in an open parking lot for close to a week in single digit temps and started it with my smartphone from the terminal without issue. I would not recommend the diesel unless you are do mostly long trips and can take advantage of the highest MPG. My total lifetime average from the day it rolled off the car hauler is 43mpg with a high of 52. Most will compare it to the Eco in price and cost per mile but this car has some serious torque and you cannot get upgraded interior with the Eco. I have heated leather and think the seats are great. I am about 6ft tall and about 175 lbs and have no issues on 8 hr trips only stopping once because my bladder doesn't last as long as the tank of diesel. Interior is also very quiet at highway speeds. The car handles well in the snow and ice due to the extra weight of the diesel engine. I have owned Dodge, Jeep, Chevy, Toyota and once considered the Jetta until Volkswagen made them plain jane at the last restyle. And also for Motor Trend the dealers had no problem selling all that were allocated in 2014 and in most cases were not willing to dealer trade if the other dealer did not have one to give them back.
I picked up a 2014 VW Jetta TDI Value edition brand new in 6/2015 for 19k marked down from 23k since it was a left over 2014. That is called a steal. Has everything I need. One touch Windows, heated seats, aux/mdi, monster mats, xm radio, and I have been averaging 42mpg combined as the Tdi exceeds the epa estimates. 550+ miles of combined driving, I'll take that any day. Diesel here in FL is 10 cents cheaper than regular. 2.79 vs 2.69
MotoMedicine how's that 2014 TDi still working out for you 5 years later ? Sell it back to VW? VW screwed the diesel pooch for everyone with their stupidity.
Ive had mine for about a week. Video is spot on. It was actually kind of funny because I fit the description of the kind of person who would buy the cruze to the T. So far I REALLY love the car. Very fun drive and great styling and I do a lot of highway driving in northern california where so far I am averaging well over the reported highway MPG. Ive had stretches where I average over 50mpg. Great car so far!
Gotta agree with you on this. I was driving a 2005 Saab 9-5 as a daily driver and it was a great little car. I traded it in towards one of these fully loaded and LOVE it! I have my other vehciles for fun but driving 130 miles a day for work I needed something good on fuel as good or better than my Saab. I have been averaging about 53 MPG (almost all of my commute is highway with a speed limit of 70 mph) and getting well over 700 miles to a tank. So far I have been using around a tank of fuel per week so about $55 or so. I love mine, makes my long commute much easier and more enjoyable.
Hopefully GM will offer the diesel engine as an engine option on a greater selection of trim levels in the 2017 Cruze and not as one almost fully loaded trim level with the diesel engine like in this video.
most of what is said is spot on. When it comes to longer brake distance, you have to realize that the diesel has Low Rolling Resistance tires that have abysmal grip even compared to a standard all season tire. at 70 mph I get EPA rating constantly. At 60mph I'm at 50 and at 50mph I'm at 65. City I get 33.4 mpg over 11,000 miles . The car doesn't really sound loud and diesel like unless you are listening for it. it does have nose dive but the emergency brake assist is a great addition.
I have one and have been driving it for 2 months now. It handles great!! Lots of features and it's a smooth ride. Don't expect it to accelerate like a sports car though. It is sluggish but if your main concern is fuel economy. This vehicle gets excellent gas mileage. Got mine up to 36.5 mpg the other week on my road trip. I'm happy with it.
the tdi has lower/wider tires for two of the three tire sizes available 205/55-16 225/45-17 225/40-18 and 215/55-17 for the cruze ...which would explain the handling difference
My questions on this car are: 1. Winter below freezing starting and running reliability considering that Diesel fuel can gel at low temperatures, even while running? 2. Traction in the snow regions of the US? 3. How is the heater and A/C in this car?
i live halfway between seattle and alaska bought the car in september-51f starts easy, runs normal, plenty of heat. the car is great in the snow and ice, no worries
farmerallis yes a duramax chevy/gmc trucks are great this is a car made buy opel/deawoo want chevy to do good , but they make bad small cars i'd take a malibu , regal , impala , etc. cruze , sonic , there are just too many better cars
FWD cars can get oversteer too. I think if the front end is quite heavy (like he said it was), it makes the rear swing out a little since there isn't as much weight out back. you can get oversteer in some hot hatches as well.
Keith Ciaccio The Cruze comes with leather interior with heated and cooled seats. I don't know about you but I think its a great car. I have a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze 1LT. Its not as classy but it is still a great car.
The Cruze is a good looking car on the outside, but that rear seat leg room is atrocious. I've seen pictures where there is literally no leg room in the back seat. I mean of course that's because the front seat is all the way back, but still they could have made it a little more roomy.
So to recap: The Jetta is less expensive, built better, offers a manual, much sportier, brakes better, better 0-60 times at 8.5 seconds, and has much more interior volume. Why would you choose the Cruze?
+Armyofscrap (Rainbow dash) YOU ARE WATCHING AN AMERICAN CHANNEL DUMB ARSE. We have very few diesel cars: Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, and that's about it .

@@akj2387 A moot point now seeing as the Cruze is DEAD. Plus, with the premium you pay for diesel fuel, it really kills any kind of savings one would be trying to achieve.
