Thanks Karen, it not so great at the moment though, endless rain, and when we get the odd dry our I'm frantically trying to get planted or make a video : All the best - Steve
Thanks, it has to be that way really as I only have an hour a week to look after it and it has to be safe for big and little kids to play and look nice enough for entertaining : All the best - Steve
It all looks so pretty already. I especially liked the woodland-esque strawberry area & artistic assembly of brassica containers! But it's all lovely tbh. The potted apricot & peach trees! 🤩
To my eyes it just looks tidy and easy to look after at this time of year, although it looks lovely at night, but it soon improves : All the best - Steve
@@SteveRichards Super tidy! I had to give the grass a double-take. It looks so neat, it momentarily crossed my mind that it was artificial turf! Whole shebang is looking very sharp. 😎
Thanks, it has to be that way really as I only have an hour a week to look after it and it has to be safe for big and little kids to play and look nice enough for entertaining. I cut the grass with a push mower, so it's super quick, but it's an organic lawn, so there's plenty of weeds and moss close up : All the best - Steve
@@SteveRichards I actually like moss! Lol. Unfortunately, I learned that it means my soil is poor draining, which makes sense as I'm gardening on clay. I've been thinking about getting/borrowing a push mower--to help me eke out more growing space. Nice to hear you've found yours fast to use.
Thanks, I like to think of it more as a good compromise, because it needs to look nice, be a great play area, entertainment area as well as productive. It's none of those things right now, but in spring/summer and autumn, well that's very different! : All the best - Steve
Looking good! You should incorporate wild garlic into your garden, nice juicy leaves with a strong garlic flavour. Thrives even in the darkest, shadiest corners of your plot or in full sun, very prolific, needs no care and will self seed forever if you allow it. I observed it growing in very dark woodlands and spread some plants and seeds around my sheds and now all the dark, damp areas of my garden are the first to burst into life each year! One of the best and easiest crops I grow!
We have loads of it in the woods too, but I'm unsure because I don't really like too many perennial beds, I like to have 3-4 successions per bed when I can. I like the controlled nature of green garlic. I will have a think, but as you can see I don't really have any empty beds waiting to be planted. Perhaps I could grow it on Debbie's allotment which is where we focus on perennials : All the best - Steve
@@SteveRichards Or you could just forget the beds entirely and just rake a few seeds into the dirt in the most lifeless parts of your plot! Easy to collect thousands of seeds from the wild or just transfer the plants directly. In a proper raised bed I bet you would get a very dense crop indeed. Cheers 👍
@@SteveRichards Yeah perfect, or even in the garbage bins around the trunk of the fruit trees you have down the side of your house. The stuff seems to thrive wherever you plant it!
thanks Steve. I din't know about lambs lettuce leaves showing when they are getting reaady to flower. Just going to check minea now- in the rain, lol! I finished my celeriac a couple of weeks ago. I made a mental note, early in the season to grow more tbis year as it is fast becoming one of my fave veggies, although Kalettes will always be my no , I am sure. If I can ask a question please? Should im pinch out Oregon sugar pod or just leave them to grow on as they are? I have grown them for years but have never pinched out so not sure what I should do. Thank you. Happy gardening 😃
I've never pinched mine out, they always bush out nicely on their own, even though they might look a bit think at this time of year. Yes, the lambs lettuce is annoying that way. The leaves are close to the ground all winter, then they lift up in March and you think, of these are looking lovely and so much easier to pick, then a week or two later they've gone to seed and the leaf quality rapidly degrades : All the best - Steve
I never thought I'd say this but I wish I was over there!! Your place looks great.

@ofrecentvintage nothing faster than a push mower
Perfect garden

Was that a quick glimpse of Mrs Steve in the kitchen I saw?
Quite possibly
Looks great Steve. If you don't mind me asking, how many square feet of bed space do you have total? Kitchen garden + allotment
I think it's about 200m2 Sam : All the best - Steve
@@SteveRichards that's a fair bit to stay on top of
We've got about 50m² in production and that feels like a lot 😅
yeah, 10 hours a week on average, less in winter, maybe 14 hours a week for a few weeks in May and October : All the best - Steve
