  • There are many reasons why you should have an undercover growing space, be it a greenhouse or polytunnel. I put the case forward for a polytunnel and how you can use and change a polytunnels use through the seasons. And how it can power your garden, your gardening, and harvests forward like nothing else can. Your polytunnel will soon become your gardens engine room.
In the "Extra Shoots" section of this video, I detail how you can buy a LOT of polytunnel for very little money. Essential polytunnel information!

Just to reiterate his point of go for the. Ex commercial tunnels, I'll post our experience here with full costings. Just to say a few weeks beforehand we missed out on a 50 sq meter tunnel used on eBay, the frame no fittingswent for £750, it seams that the large domestic size are keenly sought after with na lot of competition. Okay so onto the commercial tunnel, (to big for most people, so less competition) we bought, its 28 ft by 60 so 156 m sq with all of its fittings and the 4 doors for £750 on eBay, we had to move it from Peterborough to mid Wales, £400 (the longest piece was 5.3 m) timber for door frames base and side rails £560 inc vat from huws gray builders merchants. Extra fittings for both side ventilation from northern polyrunnels £300, replacement screen northern £550. All in £2560, that works out at £16. The equivalent new from first polytunnel will set u back £4800, and its an inferrior product £30.75 m sq, so just over half price. Hope this helps others out there, and gives you some idea of the costs for other elements, when buying 2nd hand polytunnel frames

Great vid Steve, I love my polytunnel I bought one of the cheap green tunnels 20` x 10` and it`s lasted over 4 years so far though it is starting to degrade in places. I came across some 1 m long half inch thick steel bars and drove them almost 3 feet into the ground and attached my frame to them using car exhaust clamps and it`s never moved.

Well, where do I start Steve, tomatoes have been a disaster, we're experiencing temps ranging from mid 80's up and into the 90's, then thunderstorms, with flash flooding, causing tomatoes to split and burst open ( here tomatoes are grown outside with really no control over the weather ) can't imagine what temps would get to in a greenhouse or tunnel, almost need a/c to cool it down...best veggies have been the real heat loving things like Aubergines ( eggplants as they're called here ), Peppers, got a ton of banana peppers and still producing well, I'm trying for an Autumn crop of things that like the cooler temps, fingers X'd

Really interesting video, Ive got a 10x10 polytunnel in the garden but unfortunately I haven't been able to grow in it for a few tears due to an elderly neighbour being unable to maintain his garden and his trees have shaded my tunnel( he wouldn't let us trim the trees) But now we have new neighbours and they have removed numerous trees so hopefully next season I can use it. I don't think the ground will be very good because of tree roots.

If i put a polytunnel in my garden then i won't have much space to plant open outdoor. Is it better to have more polytunnel space than outdoor open? I am confused. If you were to have one which one wouldnyou choose? Many thanks

Poly tunnel envy 🥴 there are none on our site ...the old guys on the site site say they all blow away when they’ve attempted it !! ... our site is On open farm land ... and I’m not proficient enough to attempt it on my own 😕

It just takes a little thought, I think sometimes some people do not want to change what they know, maybe they are a little timid about it. I am on a very exposed site and my tunnels have withstood very high storm force winds. Maybe one day you can have one Janet...Steve...👍
