In 50 years of trout fishing here in Montana, the one thing I have always found relevant to a good day of catching trout was thinking like a trout. I have had to learn every aspect of the trout's day to ever begin to figure out where it wants to be and for what reason it wants to be there.
Trout fishing streams is night and day different from fishing big lakes for bass. The strike zone for trout is much smaller due to the shallow, running water they're in- you pretty much have to drop it right in the hole they're sitting in. Bass fishing is a bit different in that you can call fish from a much further distance- usually you don't have to put it right on their nose. Sometimes you do- the strike zone can get tiny- but on most days it's larger than the strike zone for a trout.
@@paulmajor5585 A dream in your eyes. I chased trout for 50 years, killing damn near every one of them until I began learning about conservation. That was about the time I found out that small mouth bass lived in the Musselshell River. Since then I haven't sought a trout.

I'm very aware of the real problem our waterways face.. and it ain't one guy fishing for 50 years. Don't let em trick ya bud. My local dnr gets caught not installing fish ladders in the 11th biggest FW fishery in the world swamp systems. They say it's because of funding. Lol. I guess all the increased rates for licensing isn't paying the bills? I've recorded mass die off. I also can prove they are directly responsible for the algae blooms in the same lake. It's a problem they created and then blame the common man. All the while charging a man to feed his family and limiting his ability to fish with their "dumping" contracts. We just had a chromium spill this past summer along with two other hazardous "dumps". They aren't doing anything to rectify the problem. He said conservation. 🤣🤣🤣 that's a huge joke. I'm not naive enough to believe that BS.

@@kenneth9874 which ones? I'd think it was more about balance, casting and fighting issues that stopped the trend. Also, those grips were not very sensitive. Comfort for fiberglass rods perhaps.
Rick still uses monofilament to this day. i spent years wasting money on fluorocarbon because it's "invisible" underwater.... are you telling me that fish won't see a 20lb test fluoro line when they are inches away from it and looking at what you are throwing to them? even if the water is super clear i'd rather use 4lb mono because it will most likely be less visible than the heavy fluoro guys are throwing because it's "invisible under water". All marketing, just like wasting money on 65 lb braid for pulling a 5lb bass out of heavy cover. It's all big business.

Ryobi made the first Lews speed spools and also manufactured the first Shimanos. Shimano later acquired Ryobi fishing in the 80s.
