Building a Teardrop Camper in Our Garage Is Making Us Go Crazy

- We are getting our camper doors on and adding some amazing wood trim around them! This DIY Camper on a Harbor Freight trailer has come a long way, but not without some mistakes that we need to fix. Everything always seems like it's going great until you get to a new step and have to go back to fix some things. One step forward, two steps back for this project. However, this teardrop keeps improving every week and we are SO CLOSE to seeing this thing drive down the road.

fun watching you overcome your challenges. few people get to experience the satisfaction that comes with the little successes!
Really like the way the doors worked out. The varnished timber really adds a nice look/detail.
you guy's deserve an oscar for that fantastic
Best practices: Butyl tape around =every= hole piercing the protected shell, every time.
I love that mahogany (oh, Ipe deck boards, nice) door trim. When are you going to paint the shell? ;) Good eyeballs, Dylan. How about a 3-5" deep spice rack shelf to fill those slats from the shelf change?
Other than the HFT trailer, I think that's a better squaredrop than you can buy on the market. A hearty well done to both of you.
Man, this thing looks better and better every video! Good work, guys!
When you make the maiden trip. You have to do a video of it to include how it tows, setup and use and then fun and memories you will have
Of course!!
Great work on the camper Dylan & Molly :) Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍😎JP
you guys are the only channel that I actually hit the notification bell..Keep it up!
You're the best!!
Looking good. And happy Fathers Day to the puppies dad.
Thank you! You as well!
The door turned out great! I love the way the surround/trim looks. Adapt and overcome!
You need a big Woodbrew graphic on the front slanted panel like they do for the commercial RVs.
Looking good!!
Super satisfying to see the hatch work on the first time. Looking good - cheers
Awesome work Y'all! 😃👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Great Job Like Away 👍👍👍👍
Thanks! 😁
Awesome job guys.
I Love watching your project coming together.
Blessings from Paso Robles, California, Carlos ✝️🙏❤️😊🇺🇸
You guys do good work! I’m really impressed with your attention about the camper being watertight! Stuff a lot of RV manufacturers sometimes seem to just apply silicon sealant. Just have a question though (and I’m no woodworker by any stretch of imagination); would the hurricane hinge work for the door installation? It seems it would have made the fit more flush making the lock mechanism a bit more secure? Also as one who worked at a few companies that made fiberglass sailboats (and a few surfboard repairs in my younger days) your application was great! I’d buy a camper from you!
It looks fantastic! It will be so satisfying to get out and use it for the first trip!
Don't feel bad struggling with those gas struts. I painstakingly made a miniature Teak stay for a special keepsake box and finding the correct placement for the mountings actually best me. I gave up in the end😢. Oh and I assume you will mount the trim with tamper proof screws to avoid people gaining access by just unscrewing the trim?!
Yea they are bolted through! Something we are doing in the next video!
If it's not Formica, then who's it for? 😂😂😂 HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the Dads
🤣
Thank you J P
I used the traditional tear drop latches on mine, and i installed two flat head screws on the inside of the trailer so that i could back them out as needed to tighten up against the latch.
This has been one of the most interesting and fun build series I have watched. You guys have been doing a great job. I can just imagine this has come with many head scratchers along the way
So happy to hear that!! Definitely one of the most challenging builds we’ve done!
just a thought.. Use through bolts on the door. If someone wanted in and it was locked, they could just unscrew those hinges.
We did! That’ll be in next video
Awesome work thus far, you'll definately have to do a cost breakdown. I haven't seen anyone go over a square drop build since Covid. Will be really interesting to see.
Looks great! Glad you’re able to solve those pesky little problems that arise.
Us too! Thanks!
Looking awesome!! Gas struts are THE WORST to figure out
The WORST
Great videos and progress on the build! I recently purchased the Kreg track saw too. What hose are you using to attach to it and do you like it? Thanks!
We use the one that comes with our Festool extractor, but really any hose gets the job done💪🏼
After watching this, I'm wondering if i can go to the junkyard and find a Jeep Wrangler rear door... Then it has window, hinges and latch
Don't you just love when you cut a piece, get it the way you want, then walk over and realize you did it backwards :P So frustrating. I've done that too many times :(
On a side note, instead of gluing Formica, have you thought about using stainless steel sheet metal. 16 gauge might be too heavy, so maybe 18 or 20? You could maybe stamp a slight bump or bend a .5" squeeze to act as a drip guard on the back edge and maybe put a 90 bend on the front to add some stiffness. You could then spot weld some studs on the bottom side and use some nuts to secure it to the wood. Might look nice and shiny back there. I don't know, it was just an idea. In case you hadn't decided yet :D Hope you guys are doing well. Peace.
Haven’t decided just yet, but stainless steel sheets are outrageous!

If I'm not mistaking, doesn't that species of wood naturally turn gray over time, if not treated with anything.
We are putting finish on it🤗
Test
Looking good 👍🏻
