Julia, please keep hiking and doing these joy filled videos. You capture the pain, challenges, emotions, beauty, and share it all in a most artistic way. Your AT video was awe inspiring. Your spirit is motivating me to get out and say hello to Mother Earth. Please never stop. Thank you, most graciously. Jim (grew up next to the Beaver River, in those Beaver County mountains of beautiful western Pennsylvania)
I got hooked on your hiking videos before finding this one...was waiting till you hit Johnstown since it's my hometown...can't believe it's yours, too...lol. keep the videos coming!
SWPA!! Just did the LHHT last week. Unfortunately all of the leaves were gone but still had a good hike. Feels good to finally connect all of the sections that I have been doing over the last 2 years.
@Julia Sheehan Johnstown area girl here as well! Family in the Boswell, Davidsville area. I live in Boston now but I love going home to visit. I miss those hills!
If the PCT is closed next year then consider doing the CDT or the Colorado Trail if you want something a little shorter. The Colorado Trail takes about a month and it's very scenic and a great introduction to backpacking in the West, which is somewhat different than eastern mountain challenges.
Thanks for taking us along on the trail. Really enjoy your hiking videos. If you are looking for more trails their is a 102 mile trail in Alabama at cheaha state park an if you combine all the trails together is 130 miles.
Your video editing has stepped up a notch. It's noticed, and appreciated. I've driven under that highlands bridge a dozen times and wondered about where it goes... now I know! Looks fantastic with all the ferns and leaves.
Somebody get this girl a trail - 2021 version. I must say, a 25 mile and a 24 mile is quite an accomplishment coming out of the non-hiking box. A full time hiker? I think I could embrace that as well except for the fear of when the "Forest Gump" moment might hit. Thanks for showing this hike - it is now #1 on my list to finish.
Heyyyy that was cool. This old retired PA coal miners rickety old bones can't hike like that. But I still hike a few miles in the woods. My niece hiked up some mountain this year. I think it was in Peru. Incredible pictures of the night sky.
Believe it or not, you also had an influence on my hiking the AT dream. I'll be rocketing all the way on the AT (darn sinuses, ya know) and you know what I mean! We may have a small connection. When I went to college in the mid 70's, one of my roommates was from Johnstown. I don't remember his name now but his mom was a psychic and gave me some much needed advice. Thanks for taking me along. I really enjoyed it. John from MI
Not sure if its said yet... That spicy autumn smell is most likely spice bush. I saw and smelled it a ton when I hiked that ttail years ago. Nice vid. Well done👍
Did the 42 mile Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore trail, even more of a baby thru-hike! But you're right, there's something special about doing the whole thing point to point, even if it's not 1000+ miles!
Vanlife allows me to live outside. After my AT hike I spent 2 years trying to figure out how to make living in the forest full time comfortable and sustainable. I dont get to go on massive backpacking trips all the time but I get to explore more than if I had to work to pay for a house. Paying off debt is key... I only work part time and I spend 6mo in the desert and 6mo in the Colorado rockies. Its the life ✌
Step 1: pay off debt Step 2: buy van Step 3: follow your heart! For me I was called west and ended up in AZ a year ago at this point. Because I followed my heart opportunities and gifts came into my life at the perfect time. Kinda like trail magic. Lmao forreal tho its that simple. People make it out to be more complicated than it needs to be.
@@jessicabartomioli8765 no debt here. Just ready to buy a van! I’d like to get a camper so I can still drive and have somewhere to keep my dog and cat!
I'm sort of getting a hiker crush on you. Not in a weirdo stalker way. Your gumption , attitude, cool personality, and humbleness sparkle through in these vids. Thank you
You just popped up after we did a section of the LHHT today! My fiancé drives an 18 wheeler under that walkway over the turnpike once a week and he was insistent we go this weekend to see the colors from the bridge!
So glad I found these videos and your channel. I could tell right away you're a W PA native like myself, which I mean as a compliment. Looking forward to checking out your future videos. You're a good editor and obviously an accomplished hiker. Cheers.
Thanks Rocket, you have just given me a great Idea. I’m from your neck of the woods; Butler,PA. I’ve lived in GA since 1985. My friends want me to come back and visit. The trail may be my ticket back home for a week or two. Visit some old friends and hike a new trail. Awesome! 😎

Rocket, enjoyed your mini through hike! This is the type of trip I aspire to do. The most I’ve done so far is a two-nighter on the Ozark Trail. About to go back to finish the 48 mile Courtois section of that trail later this week. I travel just a couple of hours to do the OT, which I think is pretty close, but I am totally amazed that you have such a beautiful trail so close to your hometown! Hope the time on the trail and time with family filled you with all you needed to bouy you up until your next long hike. Peace and love!
Way cool to read you old trail log! You've come and grown a lot as a person since that first entry.. nice! Come over to SWEDEN, we hare some fantastic trails, some really untouched nature.. check out SAREK national park..during summer, that area har 24h sunshine yaaay crazy 😁🤪
I just finished my AT THRU (@pestopaces) and I so so appreciate this video, reminds me when I did the foothills trail. The fall foliage is so beautiful and your editing of the hike is awesome! Enjoyable watch! (:
Thanks for a wonderfully scenic video. Don't give up on that knee, or on the opportunity to stay resilient and fit off trail. The body can do amazing healing, if it's given optimal support. Learning what that entails could change your life!
Thanks, Julia. I hiked just a few miles of the Laurel Highlands Trail with my late father-in-law back in the 1980s. My wife is from Scottdale. Good to see you back on trail and rejuvenated. 👍😊
I really enjoyed your two RUclips videos on this hike. I have not been able to hike this year because of a hip replacement and I really miss it. Your videos is the next best thing to being back on the trail.
Your home town is Johnstown??? WOW! I'm originally from Hollidaysburg, but I moved to the Cresson/Loretto area several years ago because I worked for FreightCar America in Johnstown for several years. I need to get on this trail finally! Wonder where I can leave my car that it would be safe? Thank for sharing your hike, it was nice to see you out enjoying what you like to do!
You got me at the 9 minute mark! My headphones have been temperamental all day turning off randomly. I almost restarted them! Nice job with the video, if you want a trail to hike next year, hit up Susquehannock Trail System if you have to keep it in PA, 85 miles.
Beautifully done GF! Thanks for the inspiration! The North Country Trail section in the Eastern Upper Peninsula is in full fall bloom right now. Come check it out sometime.

Awesome Rocket. You are awesome. I love your journey's . I follow all of them. I just did the Dolly Sods earlier this week.
