For the life of me, I can't understand why the 917 is not among them.... It was the most revolutionary game changing Racecar in the history of Le Mans; and also one of the most beautiful. In my book, it is Le mans greatest Racing Car till yet.

@David Bishop Hope so. Sad that there is no real competition in the Prototype league at teh moment. Audi won't be back soon in Le Mans.
David Bishop Hate to break it to you, but the Ford GT will not be entering in Lemans until future notice. The new 2020 Ford GT40 mk2 model is a track only, 1.2million, 45 unit, production car. Special edition only. Sadly they won’t return.
My vote is the Ford GT40: just an absolutely beautiful car and that heavenly exhaust note! If I won a multi-million lottery (make that mega million); I'd try to snap up a 2005 reissue in a heartbeat..cost be damned. Had a 'Cox' .049 engine model of one back years ago and I was the envy of my neighborhood. A guy in my area has a kit-car copy of a GT40 which from 25 feet is a dead ringer for the original even has a mid-mounted V-8 engine..ain't an original but it gets lots of attention at car shows..and it is a daily driver seen him around in it a lot in summer. I drool over it when I see it. Oh well I have to satisfy myself with a Corvette in the meantime.

@@adventuresonic4675 The GT40 and the modern day Ford GT are arguably some of/if not THE most beautiful cars ever interred in LeMans, they are a beautiful work of art of performance and functionality, all there beauty is filled with it, nothing on the car is for looks but it just does look good which is a huge bonus.
That Mazda with the Wankel engine is a beast in its own class.
@GP2_Engine they didnt race that motor at its full potential. IIRC, it didnt even see 5 digit rpms during the race. And was only making about 75% of the motors tested power. They dumbed the car down to win. Lol slower laps, save more fuel, or faster laps and spend more time in the pits. There were cars on the circuit that day that could have beaten the 787 in its current trim, if it wasnt for their reliability issues. But had the Mazda been able to really work without having to worry about fuel or risk of hurting the motor within the races timeframe, that car would have by far been the quickets thing around the track to that point.
Favourite race car of all time is the GT40. In my eyes it’s the first true supercar and the best looking.

Yeah the 917 should be up there. But the best looking is, for me , the GT 40. The Ferraris are too swoopy looking, the Jaguar D Type too. The GT 40 is both a car but, as well, also a machine. Those before it were cars, those after it, machines.
Beautiful machines, but function over form. The GT 40 needs nothing added, nor anything removed that would make it look better. Born Beautiful.

The GT40 looks really modern for a 1960's car. I like the lights and the "smile" it has.
Tbh I really like the designs of the old version of the Le Mans cars. The designs are so beautiful and have a lot of flows and beautiful curves too

Hard to argue about who is in who is out when there are only eight. Just consider myself fortunate to live near Daytona and over the years have watched many of these compete. 250lm, 330p4, John Wyer GT40, long tail Porsches. Great memories whether waking up on the infield to the 330p4's whining V12 or watching Pedro Rodriguez 4 wheel drift his 917k through the hairpin on the first lap of the 24 hours of Daytona. Thanks to RUclips for all the videos that bring these classic memories back to life.

Just fortunate to have grown up amongst so many of these cars. Lived just 90 miles from Daytona. Saw my first 24 hours in 1967, Ford vs Ferrari vs Chaparral vs Porsche. I was 17, just got my drivers license. In those days the top Formula One drivers were heading the teams. Over the years I have returned many times.

For me the 1970 Porsche 917, 1990 Peugeot 905 EV1, 1999 BMW V12 LM, & 2003 Bentley Speed 8 should all be on this list!

For me a toss-up between the P4 and the Testa Rossa which I think the former narrowly wins. Gloriously simple and curvaceous. I really thought the P3 was ugly and almost a hunchback! I collect 1/18 diecasts and have the two i loved in my collection - amongst many others!

Where is the Porsche 917K?
Ta-Heck w/ yer Porches...1967 Ford GT 40 Mk.IV was not only the most beautiful, but the most efficient as well. In the day, anyone could go to a Ford/Mercury dealer and buy the engine block to the valve springs from the MotorCraft catalog. That is what racing is all about. Heck w/ Ford Jr. & his beef w/ Enzo. He should've stayed the course & beat Ferrari for the Manufactures World championship instead of just winning a couple of minor battles. Win the war or stay home! The Mk. IV was all you needed instead of your ego. Great job by Mr. Shelby & the company of Holman & Moody. To bad they worked for a sod that didn't understand the benefit of racing.

It didn't win. It won the GT class. Had they not had a minor problem though....well....
caribman10 The #5 Cobra Daytona Coupe could have finished 1st overall in 1964, had it not been for the overheating oil issue caused by a failed oil cooler. Dan Gurney driving the #5 was in 3rd place closing in on the two lead Ferrari prototypes before it failed. The #5 lost time running slower laps and 25 minutes in the pits to route a oil cooler bypass, but still managed to finish 4th overall and first in GT.
Yeah, I know. Wouldn't that've been a kick in the Euroballs though? A mutt car with an American engine, British designed chassis and a body cribbed from an Italian car finishing first? Especially since it would've meant that overhead valve - and not overhead cam - power did the job? Same block as Granma's Fairlane that she drove to the grocery store? Dan and Bob had 'em covered, with Pete Brock's help....
Please keep in mind that the 1967 Ferrari P4 was among the top 6 in this YT post, but it finished SECOND at LeMans in its only appearance.

The 330 P4 is a drop dead stunner, but I think many would agree that the 917 would make most peoples' list. That was a surprise omission...but which one would I remove? Probably the R8 (and I love Audi's. Drive one). The 917, in my eyes at least, is beautiful.
You could've put the Porsche 935 K3 here, Le mans winner and an absolute wounderful car overall.
What, no Porsche 917? Have you lost it? I thought that car had killer looks and an exhaust note the no other car could come close to. Just think the movie "Lemans" with Steve McQueen. Those 917s in their Gulf livery were art in motion. Very fast motion.

Thanks I didn't even notice the Rothmans 962 was here because I was busy running around while I was watching this...the sounds are great and sometimes I just check it out just to may be see some thing new but boy I see how people get mad about click bait...that is stuff tv commercial don't do,but yes the Mazda is good but I really like to sneak into the Porsche Museum with my Helmut and my driving suit on and drive that Rothmans I have been wanting to build. A 962 type street car...since 1990....but then I thought may be 962s are around to buy,not a chance well 2 million to start.....still great video...meet at the museum later like 3...hah hah...JK

I don't care what anyone says, all these cars are freakin gorgeous. It's like trying to say who's the best looking supermodel. They're supermodels for a reason, they're all beautiful. In the end, it comes down to personal preferences.
