    Thanks for the thorough review. So lucky that I got the GoPro 8, which has never given me problems. Wow, I wore a hole in my Altras in exactly the same place, but my wife's are just fine. Must be the way we walk, or something. Still love the Lone Peaks. Thanks for sharing all that info.

      Thanks for checking it out - hopefully some of the info I shared is helpful to someone! Maybe I need to checkout the GoPro 8 🤔. Yeah still love the Lone Peaks even with those holes - they are just now more breathable 🤣. Have a great week 🐻

      It’s a nice pack and carries weight well! You’ll love it. I just picked up the SWD Superior 35L…haven’t had a chance to use it yet.

    I don’t hike to your level, I really wish I could. Can I just day your video is so very useful and informative. Your GoPro issue must have been a nightmare.
    All the Best, Ivor.

      Thanks for checking it out - glad you found it useful and informative. Lots of peanut butter helps to fuel me throughout the day 😁. Yes the GoPro was a real let down and I lost some good footage due to those issues. Happy Trails 🥾

    You should get the 60w battery bank I love my 19200mah anker it charges so fast definitely the best investment I made this year.

    • @BearTrekAdventures
      @BearTrekAdventures  2 года назад

      Actually that’s what I started out with. I have a 60W dual charger and 65W. They are much heavier than the smaller chargers. When I looked at the tech specs I noticed the 20K mah battery bank only supports up to 18W input so the larger capacity chargers are essentially a waist and provided no additional benefit. At least that was my understanding of the specs.

    Did you hang your food bag? Or Ursak? Any trouble with rodents?

      On the LT I hung my food. Every trail since I sleep with my food and put an extra odor proof bag over my food bag.

    Alternative camera to the GoPro, we've heard a lot of good things about the DJI Osmo. I'd have a look at that. If we'd known about it before picking up the GoPro 9, that's probably the camera we'd be using. Sweet stickers, nice way to mark up your gear. On the rain shorts, maybe if you made a hem on them, they'd have a bit more weight to stay down? Interesting review piece on the Altras. Another channel we follow can't get 200 miles out of a pair before they start falling apart and won't get them anymore.
    You mentioned the cold soaking for part of the food. What kind of stuff do you nibble on throughout the day between meals to keep going? We'll pack cliff bars and some other small snacks for on trail, and then follow a long day, like yesterday with just a big meal, but then we're not doing multi day trips yet.

      Thanks JR! I was so extremely disappointed in the GoPro. I think for the AT I'm going to continue with my phone to save on pack weight and simplify my workflow. I remember the DJI Osmo from your GoPro video and it's probably the next one I'll try out.
      For the Lonepeaks I really think the Superfeet insoles really help to extend the life on them. My experience is the midsoles on the shoe is the first to go. I'm approaching 800 miles for the year and most of that is on 2 pair of Lonepeaks...seeing how many miles I can get out of these. Think I might do a more detailed gear review video on these and a few other items.
      For food my big calorie heavy hitters are peanut butter and olive oil. I usually eat a ProBar + Kind Breakfast Bar for breakfast, Kind Bars and Luna Bars for snacks, Green Belly Bars or Tuna Packets for lunch, and Rice Sides or Mountain House Meals for dinner. I try to get alot of calories from fat...I found that gives me an energy boost. Oh and electrolyte drink mixes with caffein really help :)

      Based on JR's video and comments, I went with the Osmo. I've done some day hikes and a with it and one overnight (video not out yet). You can see the results on my channel starting with Mt. Carrigan. I added a small tripod and a shoulder mount and I've been very pleased. But I don't edit on trail, so I get your comments about workflow. To edit on trail, I would have to add an SD card reader to my gear then have to move files to my phone and edit... much easier to just use your phone.

      Thank you! Yeah I will probably pick one up and test it out. For these longer trips I found it's a real pain and takes too much time transferring video clips to my phone to edit. I initially had an SD Card Reader and that went home with the GoPro plus extra memory cards I was carrying. I just bought the iPhone 13 Pro so hoping that will do well😄

      @@BearTrekAdventures I have run into power issues once, but not sure if that was because of how much I used it, or if I forgot to charge it (DOH!) However you can also get multiple batteries and a multi battery charger. Starting a day with 3 fully charged batteries will likely meet almost any need. I do love having my shoulder mount. It's usually on there unless it's in my hand. That way when I see a good section of trail that I want to film hands free, I just turn it on, angle it and go. Being able to use my phone to see what it sees is really handy, but I'm pretty sure the GP 9 does that (my prior was a GP-1!)

      @BearTrekAdventures  2 года назад

      Yeah those shoulder mounts are nice! Wow seems like it eats through the batteries. When the GoPro works I could get 2 days of filming out of one battery.

    Good afternoon Mike, great idea for a video, always intresting to learn and share from experiences on the trail 👣 😀 thanks for breaking it down into chunks too.
    Kat speaks very highly of the Osmo action, we have had no issues with Kat's, though for best results it needs ND filters ( we haven't got those yet)
    Would love to tackle some of your trails and long distance walking in the future, found this video really useful, thank you papa bear 🐻
    Funny how things you think might be useful pre walk turn out to be dead weight, goes to show you never can tell! have a great week, Ceri and Kat ❤☕🤗🧭🗺

      Thanks for checking it out! I had a few folks request this one...thought the time stamps would help if folks are just interested in one part of gear and can skip the rest of the video 😄 Yeah I will probably pick up the DJU Osmo Action eventually to try it out. I highly recommend the long distance hikes...the experience is absolutely amazing and the people I met was incredible. Happy Trails 🥾

    This is a fine video with many a detail. Sorry about the GoPro troubles - I've had a similar issue on occasion. Not great on an overnight but potentially really problematic on a long hike like yours. Maybe just filming on the phone is the way to go on the AT. Not sure I can go the cold soaking route - I like warm grub in my tum.
    Your lightweight techniques are impressive. I was trending that way once upon a dream. Not sure I could be ever be as disciplined as you. Somewhere along the lined I veered back towards comfort over grams. And the hammock setup sure isn't in the lightweight department.
    I predict this video will do well. Mark my words: you shall drink in the Watch Time from this video much like a bear slurping honey from a tree.

    • @BearTrekAdventures
      @BearTrekAdventures  2 года назад

      Thanks Seth! I might try one the DJI Osmo after the AT but will probably stick with the iPhone for that trip...it's a big time saver just on the workflow to not have to transfer video files after hiking long days. I like cold food as it is so switching to cold soaking was a no brainer...not sure how I'm going to like it in colder temps though. I started testing out an alcohol stove over the weekend...I at least neat hot tea on those cold nights 😂
      With the bad back and bad knees having a lightweight setup is important...now it's just become a challenge...haha! These gear videos seem to gather a lot of interest - not sure I could drink match the watch time 🤣. Think I might do more detailed gear review on a few of my gear items.
