Oh my goodness I’m sorry this is just my opinion but she has a fricking terrible voice. Like there is no talent there. The production on the song is great but her voice probably one of most annoying voices I’ve ever heard. I feel bad for people with actual musical and vocal talent who are getting outshined by people like this girl.

I like your review. A lot of interesting points.
You mentioned she seemed uncomfortable on a large stage, that's probably because she was a street busker so she used to stay in just one spot.
Also the autotune comments are because she sounds almost exactly like the studio version. Everyone thought the studio version was autotuned because of how unique her voice is, but now everyone is surprised this is actually her real voice.

She was scared shitless, at the end when Jimmy Fallon came on she said she couldnt talk or respond in anyway.
Why people, just cant accept this girl has a unique voice and can perform live without using autotune. Should embrace this very talented woman.

Only discovered Tones and I yesterday. I agree the Splendor in the Grass performance stands with the great rock and roll and hip hop or pop performances since the beginning. Every performance I've seen she brings it all. The Byron Bay busking street party where she sequences the piano drums and bass live is more proof she is a major talent and true artist.
Song is about her time as a busker (street performer) which was only about 6months before this performer. It's about how people would force her to sing one more song and direct her what to do. She originally had the lyrics as 'Sing for me' but she didn't want the song to relate to her so much

Someone's probably answered this already. The reason why auto tune is mentioned so much is because people just assumed the record was heavily auto tuned because who can really sing like that. When she performed on Jimmy Fallon the American audience in particular were shocked that she could actually do it live. Tones said even the crew on the show were concerned prior to her performance (had their doubts) and at the lack of rehearsal.
Autotune couldn't do that. There's absolutely no way. It speaks to just how low standards can be in the industry if they can't believe someone could actually sing live..

Never understood the auto tune accusations, autotune doesn't sound like that.
I agree: No Autotuning here except for a few bits on the recording that helped with a couple of notes (according to her recording engineer in an interview in “Sound on Sound” magazine). But just to clarify: Antares Autotune and Celemony Melodyne (a competitive and often preferred product) *can* be used to change formants and affect the tonal quality of the vocal, apart from whether or not it’s also affecting the vocal tuning.
This song is about her busking days... all the lyrics are are things people have said to her when she is busking. She has basically replaced sing for me to dance/move for me that’s why the song seems like it means something to her ❤️. Her voice literally gives me goosebumps every time I hear this song and I’ve never had someone do this to me before i don’t know what it is about her 🥰

yeah so right man!,She sings live the way others only do in a studio. Way cool. She is talented as heck. She deserves what is happening to her.
Also the song is about an experience she had busking where her money was stolen and she was dealing with an obnoxious crowd. She says if you change "dance" to "sing" you get the meaning of the song. As a songwriter the things that stand out to me are the excellent use of repetition and the multiple rhymes especially in the verses. The phrase "dance for me, dance for me, dance for me" is especially singable for the crowd. Tones and I broke a billion streams which explains why you've heard her before. Her name is actually Toni.

A lot of people think it's heavily autotuned. I don't think it is at all. She just has an amazing voice and people are butthurt over it for some reason. A lot of people will get their back up and pick on you if you disagree with them I've noticed. I've seen some performances where she's shaking sometimes so the nerves get to her a bit in some of her videos but check out her performance in Splendour in the grass 2019 concert. She played an amazing set and it was the best I've seen of her so far. She had a crowd of 20,000 people going crazy over this song. It was great. I wished I was there.

I love this little possum. Her talent is way beyond her unique and amazing voice. Dance Monkey is the hook song that has got the world's attention but I think you'll find she has a lot of insightful thoughts and rhythms to share in her other songs. I also love watching these professional reactions to her singing and how they can explain just why we all love her so much.

Many people thought her voice was computer generated or robotic, I believe that’s why so many mentions of auto tune are there. I was honestly surprised the first time I heard her sing live, she really does sound the same as her recordings!

Her name is Toni Watson, performer name is Tones and I. Just to clarify. And she is nervous, she was only busking a short time before making this song, and it spread from there fast, next thing you know she making live performances, and now put on overseas TV. Can Confirm, it is NOT any auto-tune, have heard her sing before she become famous, she was busking on the streets in Byron Bay (Australia), thats where I heard this song the first time, so can confirm, NO auto-tune.
If you look up Tones and I nye in Byron Bay, you'll see her busking in the street in Byron Bay in the 1st day or 2 of 2019, singing Dance Monkey, which she wrote about people asking her to continually play and sing over and over and over. This is before the song took off. You can see her laying down the tracks at the beginning, having a challenge because she'd performed so long a battery went dead on something, and going ahead anyway. The crowd on the street clearly already love this song. She wrote the lyrics, wrote the music, arranged it herself, performed it, and now it's gone No1 in 30 countries. Those clothes, as you can see from New Years Eve 2018/2019 is what she normally wears.

I have watched a lot of people's reactions to her voice & I love watching their faces as they listen. Some never heard her before & it was great just seeing them react to her. I think she is fantastic & anyone who thinks she is a one-hit-wonder would be wrong. Anyone who thinks she didn't work to get to where she is now would be wrong.

I think she is the best breath of fresh air to have come in several decades into the music scene! Im not really shocked that she gets tons of toxic hate,and its only based upon how she looks. I respond to that with: She comes as she feels comfortable,no fake fabricated stuff,and her voice is very raspy and unique. Makes me think she can do some soul,funk as well and still sound amazing! Thats why its positive to see someone giving her some extra attention,hype and love. Im tired of seeing artists dressed up as strippers on stage,and using autotune,sounding ok or awful live. Music never were about triple x for me,so i never get into thoose artists. (Im not talking about being feminine,classy and attractive in a tasteful way,i think people should feel comfortable in theyr own skin,and if they want to flaunt it,then GOOD) Like i love Dua Lipa,but recently she has dressed very much like someone that needs a pole to make theyr living. I was afraid that she was giving into some managers,producers etc "fantasies and wishes". And i kinda spoke up about it. Luckily i saw her latest video,where she was all dressed up literally,she looked amazing in a black dress. You are the first and only voice coach that I've watched pick up on these things. She's probably not used to huge spaces or even a stage, bc of her "busking"/street performing. The first time I heard this song on the radio... I for a split second thought it was auto tuned; until I listened more closely. Her voice is just so unique and she sings higher than most, bc she can and she's REAL talent. The singer has nothing to do with auto tuner. She is an Australian busker who wrote this song through her experience while busking, as per her interview, where drunks used to ask her to sing one song repeatedly. She does not like glamming up, which is a breath of fresh air from all the other singers. Very down to earth, simple with a unique voice. Love her hit "Dance Monkey' as it is going around the world and popular everywhere.

Yea I have seen a few comments suggesting the same. That is almost certainly not the case. The girl is dynamite and sings with such a unique tone and method that people don’t think it’s possible without auto tune.

If it hasn't been suggested yet, recommended you listen to all of Angelina Jordan's performances on AGT Champions. She won Denmark's Got Talent when she was 7 years old, and I believe she was 15 when she performed on AGG Champions....you won't be disappointed!
