You’re right, in Australia we don’t emphasise the ‘r’ in ‘before’ so her accent is coming through. I love it when there is appreciation for Australian artists! ❤️
A few things about Tones & I (Toni Watson) that are interesting. This time last year the then 18-year-old was a full-time busker and living in her van -- a few months ago she purchased a house in an outer-Melbourne suburb for $830,000 (that's a bit over 400K in British Pounds) for a family member, and only a couple of weeks ago bought a $5.1 Million Dollar (approx 2.5 Million British Pounds) mansion in a beautiful beachside suburb in Victoria. The song 'Dance Monkey' was partly inspired by an incident when she was busking and some drunk women on a hen's night were invading her space, touching her keyboard and generally not giving her any respect as a performer. With 24 consecutive weeks at #1 her song surpassed Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' (22 weeks), Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' (15 weeks) and Abba's 'Fernando' (14 weeks) in being the longest lasting #1 hit ever in her native Australia, while in the UK she surpassed both Whitney Houston and Rihanna & Jay Z as the longest #1 by a female performer (11 weeks). It's been a #1 hit in over 30 countries. Not bad for a song that cost her approximately AU$700 to record.
She's so commanding, i really love this kind of musicians. Free, charismatic, joyful and when you feel that energy you become part of it. And that's honestly huge, really really an incredible thing to achive. It reminds me AC/DC concert which is my greatest memory actually. I never enjoyed that much in my whole life, can't described accurately right now but i feel same vibe when i watched her. What a joyful girl, best luck & wishes.
Absolutely, she kind of commands the stage with the king of swagger you just don't see often. Even the rappers don't quite have it. Its kind of a Freddie Murcury vide. That dude strutted like a peacock and could blow down the house with 50k in the audence. Swagger plus the talent to back it up, is always fun to see.
I've seen some good number of vocal coaches' reactions on various songs but I just want to let you know, you really know your thing! I don't know why I'm so fascinated right now to see your reaction but you're a really good coach. And you explain really well. Stay happy and have a good life.
