One of my favorite dishes. I go to a Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver as often as possible. I have introduced all my friends and children to the pleasure of Pho and other dishes from your homeland. Thanks for the lessons on enhancing the experience
Whenever I eat noodle soup, I add white vinegar and sometimes, apple vinegar. This looks so good. I need to put this in mind when I visit Vietnam...Cheers!!
By taking a closer look, Pho Hanoi really looks like a beef version of Kuey Teow Th'ng (粿条汤,Kuey Teow with soup), but with way more vegetables and sauces
Hey V I found 2 places near me for Pho.. both were great.. but like watching you I’m going out today to have some more!! Thanks for the reminder Have a great day
A few years ago we landed in Hanoi after 11 h and the tour guide brought us early in the morning straight for eating pho. I loved it. Like the north and south pho. Could eat it every day. At the next opportunity i like to visit Vietnam again.
Oh my gosh, your ha noi pho is so different than what I thought of. We eat a lot of pho here in US and I don’t know If it’s is Saigon based but we eat with hoisin sauce (tương đen) and onion pickle (hành dấm). Never see garlic pickle or eating with the fried stick (dầu cháo quẩy) and especially the egg. Just wow! Love your clips btw.
@@WhatThePho One thing I learned from seeing Japanese eat their ramen that VNamese should be corrected when they eat their pho. The nose needs to be down in the bowl to suck in the aroma, the eating motion should be like slurping and the bowl should be deeper to have more broth and retain heat better.
pho was originated in northern viet nam. i think the majority of pho around the world were introduced by refugee which are mostly southerners. so pho in the US are mostly southern style.
That’s what I was thinking. That’s now how pho is served in the US restaurant. We see none of that. I guess you guys don’t use sriracha hot sauce too? 🤣🤣
Hi Van! Great job as always. A little suggestion. Do you think you could add the vietnamese names of all the food/condiments you encounter in your future videos for us Vietnamese learners? :) Also when you speak vietnamese on the street/in the restaurant it would be great to see the vietnamese subtitles so we can follow how to interact naturally :))
During my IAEA consulting stint in Da Lat and Saigon ages ago, the main thing to remember at street Pho stands was to put four of those tiny stools together to support my European mass, and entertain my hosts by trying unsuccessfully to use chopsticks. Seriously, in six weeks there I didn't get hang of using that hellish invention. But Pho was delicious.
Omg I'm watching your videos in quarantine days. The last time I enjoyed Pho was 5 weeks ago cause Covid 19 Pandemic. Anyway, we are Vietnam, we have to try our best to bring good society like before we had. Thanks for your videos about food. Hope you'll more successful.
Speaking about Pho well I’m not in Vietnam I live in Dallas Texas there is a really popular and nice pho restaurant near the DFW areas it’s called Pho Bac it’s so good if you ever go to Texas like if ever will come back to America Please try that place that restaurant has a 4.5 star rating! It’s in Richardson Texas a city in the Eastern side of Dallas Texas [Gosh Dang!!!!]
My goodness, I must eat pho for lunch tomorrow, because I love it so much. I live in San Jose and here has the most Vietnamese people and restaurant in the US. All the pho here seem to be pretty standard. It comes with bean sprouts, basil, sliced chili and a slice of lime. I've never seen the garlic vinegar, but it looks so good. The pho noodle here doesn't look that white. I think the pho in Vietnam looks better.
Can't wait to go there in Vietnam to actually try the real thing!! We have Pho 24 here in the Philippines. It's good too but it just doesn't hit the spot much coz i'm really looking for an authentic experience.
Pho looks good. Are Vietnamese restaurants common around the world? I’m going to Portugal and to Panamá. I’ll look for Vietnamese restaurants there. Gotta try some pho! 😊
Thanks for sharing, just to say in Saigon you can still easily find good Pho restaurants with northern flavour (go D2, Tan Binh, D7, ...) and they do have garlic vinegar, will full of garlic (more than the one in the video :)). I remember this Pho Nho (the one in HTK iirc, there's one near the intersection which I've tried 7 or 8 years ago), though tbh not the big fan of it, maybe different taste ...
You remind me of my English teacher in University. Her appearance is the same to you (but she is a bit taller). Her eyes are bright and big as yours. Good work, keep going, Van. Ps: her name is also Van.
Hello, Van ! I noticed the Pho in Hanoi does not have a basket of herbs/veggies to compliment it. I really like mine to have those herbs to munch along. Anyhow, I still enjoy them.
I do the same too in America, using my lime to clean the chopsticks. Eating pho with vinegar & garlics is very foreign to me. I have never heard or seen pho eating this way. Very interesting. Maybe I will try it when I visit Vietnam (Hanoi).
Not sure if there is Pho to try for vegetarian people like me 😅. Nice video Ms Van Vu. Thanks for the garlic vinegar tip. Will look around for it haven’t seen in Vietnamese restaurants in around Houston….
Pho is one of my favorite foods in Vancouver, Canada. The pho shops here have chilli pepper, fish sauce, hot sauce. But no garlic vinegar and fried stick. That's missing in this here parts.
Thank you for showing us how Hanoi pho is different. I'd love to try that garlic vinegar. I was wondering what the Quẩy was made of & googled it. Apparently, it's like a donut? At first, I thought maybe it was fried bananas. It looks tasty, like it would be good with breakfast.
I like 🍜 withh a lot of pho bo and make it juicy yaa I'm with it other than that I'd wish it was a cold burrito with beans only I'll pass the meat I mean beef pork what evrr
Seems I've only had Saigon style Pho. Love adding basil, sriracha & hoisin sauce. Don't use sliced jalapeno as the heat level is too inconsistent. Will definitely ask if they have garlic vinegar next time I go. Will also have spring roll with shrimp and pork dipped into the spicy peanut sauce, though I add extra sriracha to the sauce 🔥
Someday I will try out northern pho, too bad that here in the US it is more likely to be southern pho. (I will probably prefer southern pho more though).
It is interesting that you dónt have "tương ngọt" .. that is the first thing that many people just squirt into their bowls .. :) also, there is no Thai Basils and saw leaves (ngò gai).. :) Also the fried dough? .. very interesting.. I guess Phở Hà Nội is different . Thanks for sharing .. :)

I noticed there were no tuong ot and den (sriracha and hoisin sauce). just wondering is it because you didn't show those bottles or hanoi don't typically eat with them.
i am Malaysian, cant wait for the border to open so that i fly to Hanoi to savour all my favorite Vietnamese street food
Too bad, we can't even cross districts even with the 2nd phase of NRP at certain places

Went to Pho NHO today because of this video - thank you! Great pho! Loved the broth!

I enjoy your video as if I eat pho with you , you teaching how to eat. Thank you for showing Vietnamese food,
I always put the garlic in my phở and not the vinegar.
As well as the egg. Then a little piece of meat, egg and a bite of quẩy. Ngon quá ạ!
I like adding the extra garnishes and hoisin sauce. never tried the garlic vinegar
The squeezed lime to clean the chopsticks…mind blown. Cant wait to come to Hanoi as soon as i get my VN passport
VN passport? you mean a visa? that is the easiest part to get depend who you paid they can have it done less than a week.
