He’s now in his 60’s doing this nightly as part of a 2 hour set. And the other songs are about as intense if not more intense than that.
I was at this show, in the fourth row. This was the middle of the set, 6th song I believe, and most songs were about the same length. Danny is a BEAST.
That's so cool. I've seen it live twice. I always get chills. Possibly the best TOOL song to date.
@@Kauffdrop Most Tool songs are great, and Pneuma is no exception. However, if I had to rank them, I’d probably put Pneuma at the 4th or 5th best song on that album; and give the top album spot to Lateralus.
Keep in mind Danny was like 62 when this was recorded. He’s 65ish now and still doing 2 hour sets!!

Tool one of my all time favs! They are so distinct, from the drummer to the singer. One of a kind ❤
Tool's music is my thing. On the one hand, I love music that is directly and often musically simply structured and therefore hits the emotional center without further ado, but I particularly appreciate, as here, complex structures that are difficult to categorize and that can be traced back to a variety of influences.
Not only is his drumming style rhythmically complex, it is also characterized by a playing that results from the composition of timbres. I particularly like the drum parts in the piece, which are reminiscent of eastern music and especially tablas in terms of rhythm and sound.
You first have to come up with the idea of implementing a theme like “Pneuma” “philosophically” in instrumental parts, characterized by drums, in terms of composition and playing technique. Above all, you have to have the skills.
That was very cerebral. Very well written, and from a place of extreme knowledge. Thanks for delving deep into your comment. It helped me appreciate this mysterious song a little more. 😁

Tool songs are mathematical equations.
Tool songs also are philosophical poems. The regular layperson I’m guessing cannot pick up on all the lyrical nuances.
Def would suggest looking up the lyrics, these in particular are real good- deep meaning lyrics.
Pneuma references the breath of creation- the aether- the fabric.
The lyrics referring both to creation, and all being part of the one whole. The lyric "one breath, one word" implied (the word is god, and God is love)
Wake up, remember... addressing the creation to rediscover or recall from that which they came.
The rest of the song just builds around that principle... an amazing piece, to do with life, not death persay.
WE are all spirit bound to this flesh! Born of 1 breath, 1 word. TOOLs music is hypnotic and amplifying in the same "breath" in a very exciting way! All about consciousness

I love this perspective of the song Pneuma, but the album version is such a better experience. Danny still destroys this song, but the vocals are so much more pervasive and impactful considering the meaning of the song.
You need visuals to enjoy music?
No. Need and prefer are two different things though. Just like you may prefer beef over chicken, but you will take both.
