It’s good to see the fish are healing up. My vet told me that when the water gets warmer, the bad bacteria get more aggressive so be prepared for that. As you know I’ve been having very bad bacterial issues myself. I’ve lost about 25 koi in the last 3-4 months. I finally found a fish vet in my area that came to my pond last Thursday. One died Thursday morning before the vet came. The vet had to euthanize 2 koi because their wounds were so bad. Then Friday I found another dead. The vet did scrapes and only found a fluke or two. He gave antibiotic injections to the remaining sick koi. He sent tissue samples of the to a lab to test for Absolutely Anything and Everything possible. Still waiting on the results. So now I have to inject the 9 koi that are still sick every 3 days with 2 different antibiotics. And hopefully none of the well koi develop wounds. What a task this is. Soooo stressful and takes the pleasure out of koi keeping. Makes me feel so defeated because I’ve tried every possible treatment without success. But I should finally know exactly what the problem is within the next 2 weeks. Sorry for such a long comment. Merry Christmas 🎄
Hi Dan, A nice little update on the fish and pond stuff mate I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy New year mate. Steve
I’ve had good success with Virkon too for a bacterial problem I had! But to avoid further issues, I set up a 400 gallon quarantine tank with an Eazypod, so nothing now goes into my pond without at least 2-3 months of quarantine! But you should switch from the tablets to the powder, you get twice the quantity for the same price, makes it much more affordable! If you can, buy the 10kg pack it’s significantly cheaper! Also I’ve used at up to 6 times the recommended dosage and found it gave better results! Typically I’d do a filter clean, then hit the pond with a 6x dose and then a double dose daily for the next 4 or 5 days then repeat routine if necessary till problems subside! I found lesser doses held the problems at bay but the heavier doses I used knocked the problems back!
@@SharpeyskoiFingers crossed it sounds like you may have nailed the issues! But always keep some Virkon in stock, I’ve found it invaluable and also very cost effective when bought in powder form, particularly in the bulk pack! (It works out at less than a fiver for the 250g pack!)
Aup, my friend nice update. It's great to see the fish looking a lot better 👌 All the best to you and your family for Christmas and the new year 🎅🫡🐟
