I love Uruguay! I was born 16 hours away (by car) from Colônia. Uruguayans are one of the most friendly people I ever see! I love chivito (we have those in southern Brazil and it’s called “Xis”). I miss drinking Tannah’s. Hard to find it in the USA. Dulce de leche and asado are part of our daily life, as is the mate!

I'm uruguayan, but I left the country a couple of years ago. I'm living in Spain, which has been the greatest decision I've ever made.
However, from the outside and as a traveler myself, I tend to think that perhaps I never enjoyed traveling in my own country as I should have. I'm from Montevideo, so the two times I returned since I left, I just went there and to the east region.
BTW, I'm missing chivito and asado very much 😫

Nice video! I went there two years ago in July and it was nice. I agree with everything you said in the video. For some (like myself) being in Colonia half a day may be better because it is a pretty small place. After that it is better to take the bus to Montevideo for spending the night, and that way you have a whole next day in the capital. I would also advise to get your bus tickets to Montevideo ahead of time before exploring Colonia.

As of today, yes. You need a negative PCR and you must quarantine for at least 15 days or 7 days if you take another PCR (and turns out negative). Private labs charge around U$S 50. However, it's constantly changing so I would advise you to check governmental websites or check requirements with the embassy in your country.

El Drugstore's prices at 4:54 don't make sense. First, 31 Euro is not 30 USD. It's more like $37. And 7.50 Brazillian Real is about $1.35. Lastly an Argentine Peso is worth about a penny. So I'm guessing that sign is a joke.

I was in Uruguay in December 2017. Great weather, great people, amazing cities. When it comes to payments, I mostly used Brazilian credit cards (I had one Visa and one MasterCard on me) and I automatically got a considerable refund. At least at that time, they had a policy of refunding the taxes when you paid with foreign credit cards.

As I said in another video of your series, this is an interesting one but outdated. Because of the pandemic, all borders are closed, there is no ferry and in fact the port of Colonia has been closed for over a year. It is very sad to see the town so empty, no international tourism, which is the blood of the town. We look forward to better times and reopening, hopefully soon, at least here the vaccination program is going well. If you ever come back to Colonia, don't forget to visit the Museo del Origami, the only museum of paperfolding in the Americas and just one of the only two in the Western Hemisphere (www.musedelorigami.org). It is right around the corner of the Muralla in the Historic District. Good luck and stay safe!
