WTH? I just looked at your subcount. I'm definitely gonna have to add to that. A channel with this much quality can't sit under 100k at the very least. Unreal. Liked and subbed, twas an excellent video, and a compelling breakdown.
I don't get the whole. Criticism argument that I keep reading in the comments. Fanchen wasn't criticising the OP. He was giving a rather blunt statement to a question that was compelling enough for him to answer. It's like seeing a random peice of art hanged on a public street that garnered the masses going "oh wow so cool. Much talent. How can anyone dislike this?" And him as a bystander that just happened to be there replying "Probably cause its mediocre. No offense." Literally giving his straight opinion on what he just witnessed to a question posed by someone next to him. That statement wasn't even directed at the OP. It'll be different if he left his own original comment saying "its medicore no offense" but he didn't. It's not a critique unless you're directly talking to the creator. It's just an opinion. You can argue about his opinion. Which imho is the correct assessment. It was rather mediocre if viewed from the lens of a professionally trained pianist. Or even from anyone who has some idea of what polished good performances are. But you can't keep saying he's the villain for giving a shitty critique. When it can't be a critique as it was never directed at the OP. It's just his genuine reply to a question posed by a fellow audience member.
@@Haihaihaihai7 and your one of those ppl who gets butthurt and tries to play the victim card trying to say "his comments wasn’t nice🤡", like ofc not this is not a criticism free zone , and people have the right to say y it.
Fanchen was honest in his comment to the other lad and hopefully spurred him to work harder at perfecting his craft, but also Fanchen's Rush E was really d*amn good and for the type of song that it is I wouldn't ever say it was mediocre
The reason why the majority went after Fanchen is because the majority is neither talented nor hardworking nor taught in behaving accordingly online. Saying that you know something is great or mediocre in a field you have no mastery of is the norm online, yet it's neither valuable nor legitimate. Taking offense that someone who does have such mastery, build upon both skills and hard work is in his place to rate things differently than you are is the actual arrogance. If you suck at something, you have the right to shut it when competent people are talking and... no, nothing more. Shut it. If you want a sit at the big boy's table, you have to earn it. Fanchen certainly did.
I feel like a good example piece for the pedaling style you kept mentioning is the Sibelius etude op 76 no 2 Kinda half pedaling to keep the staccato but with flair

It’s because both pieces use this, for lack of a better term, Eastern European sound. The minor key, the speeding up, the fast runs, etc. I don’t think the Hungarian Dance was a direct influence on Rush E, but they both borrowed from the same source which makes them sound similar.

Could you do a video on the popularity of Yan TIersen, and whether it's warranted? His piano music might be the most popular on youtube (him or Ludovico Einaudi), comptine D'un autre ete is now part of the contemporary piano repertoire for beginner-intermediate pianists. He has other tracks that are extremely popular as well. I'd love to see what a serious pianist thinks of his work.
I was somewhat vaguely able to understand what your points were and what you were saying in this video. I'm going to come back after I (hopefully) get into piano classes next year in high school. Until then, I'll just say this was an interesting video throughout!
As with most things, there are real levels of skill that aren't always apparent to the casual audience. A performance that may seem good may lack the subtleties that make another great. Even when we plebs can hear it, it's undoubtedly magnified in the ears of high level musicians. Their standards are simply much higher.

Looking through the most difficult part, it would be playable with 21 pianists and 11 grand pianos. The 4 pianists playing the melody share one piano, the 8 pianists playing the constant repeated notes section all share one piano, and the other 9 pianists have a piano each as they need to use a whole piano. One of the pianists however must be allowed an engine - probably a block of wood strapped to each hand, one 9 keys wide, the other capable of playing all the keys at once.

if you're an intermediate level guitarist you probably know the bare bones basics of music theory like how the notes correlate and what the basic terms are and mean without knowing the terms precisely
@skeletonkiss1112 I'm a regular guy and I second this.
Everyone's forgetting that SMB made a playable version of Rush E. Fanchen didn't just manufacture a new version here
Fanchen is one of the greatest musical geniuses of our time…

i think that if he had been the one to create Rush E he’d be. i’d say he’s just extremely skilled.
I know this might sound sacrilegious, but those repeated notes remind of Argerich's sonata k141 lmao
Interesting.
i wish everyone who watched the video would watch this. helps to understand how much skill it reacquires to play piano let alone something like this. love this video. def deserves more views
Great analysis! I'm amazed at the comment section claiming someone is arrogant because he just claimed that he had the skill to do something when somebody actually challenged him by saying let's see you do better... So many unskilled people not understanding and hating people who have put massive amount of effort towards success... Also saying that people can't criticize if they can't do it better is one of the most stupid arguments that you can make and leads to no improvement in general... Sigh, I got sidetracked a lot. Great performance and great analysis
Randomly remembered the rush e piano guy, looked up the video, then saw this and remembered about your channel and now I'm excited to try practice piano again! The last few months or so I was just playing around with whatever I felt like and I didn't practice anything at all really, but now I want to.
Thanks for the video
Hearing such a detailed explanation on why fanchen sounds that good has fired up my inner musician
:D
12:36 wattkeys realizing that he can't hold down a midi pedal half way
WTH? I just looked at your subcount. I'm definitely gonna have to add to that. A channel with this much quality can't sit under 100k at the very least. Unreal. Liked and subbed, twas an excellent video, and a compelling breakdown.
This guy must b very good.. he can mimic and explain so easily.. this one is an insane pieces
This man really brought “according to my calculations” to music.
lol
That's actually how music works, though.
Wrong and your opinion is mediocre
@@Haihaihaihai7 and your one of those ppl who gets butthurt and tries to play the victim card trying to say "his comments wasn’t nice🤡", like ofc not this is not a criticism free zone , and people have the right to say y it.
@@NightmareZzKhow did the joke just fly over your head 😭
how can anyone dislike this? i don't see anyone trying to find out if fanchen's rush E is mediocre.
Hdkdhdkdw all the jokes aside, his performance is actually really nice and just EEEEEEEEEEE
And thank you for the analysis >_
*explains something about music*
me: nodding, not retaining anything but still watching
I feel like a good example piece for the pedaling style you kept mentioning is the Sibelius etude op 76 no 2
Kinda half pedaling to keep the staccato but with flair
I was in a whole other rabbit hole about spite and back-engineering code of a complete game in Linux because someone told them they couldn't do it... now I'm here because a comment on Reddit said it reminded him of this. lol
And what was the game?
Didn't expect a Classical Pianist To Come Here But Who Knows? Great Video btw
watt: ~is fanchen's rush e mediocre?~
fanchen: **releases an even better version**
I would like to see the kid that originally played Rush E and that Fanchen said was "mediocre" actually publish a video after practicing and surpassing Fanchen's performance.
& than Fanchen would surprass him again
CHECKMATE

It will take a while to surpass someone of Fanchen’s calibre. Dude played Scarbo, literally one of the hardest piano pieces ever.
I think the fact that they ended up making a collaboration video was a better plottwist 😂
from what i can tell from the original video it's easyer to see the finger movement in 4:30 in the reflection of the piano
Jokes aside, both Fanchen and Wattkeys are Asian, proving that whatever you can do, there will always be an Asian better than you
But so begins a paradox in which there is an Asian better than the originally superior Asian. What happens when we run out of asians? How do we then explain the peak Asian not being overshadowed by another Asian?
@@adamlaouiti6415 once the East Asian population starts to decline (aka Chinese, Japanese, Korean), we will see the Indian overpopulation taking over
@@adamlaouiti6415 theres always a bigger asian
@@notcatisa But what if we run out of Asians, there’s always a bigger Asian until you reach the end of the line. That biggest Asian. Population has limits you know. Does that mean that there are Asians outside earth that are better?
@@adamlaouiti6415
“-there are Asian outside earth that are better?”
Calling Asian an Alien is usually seen as an insult. However, I’m starting to see it that they are simply more advanced; or in better words, a compliment.
This guy speaks exactly like my old piano teacher, says the same things he would say.
I love this rush e trend so much, great video!
2:58 i think the right term would be "galloping"
And at 5:02
This is a fantastic example of Fair Use, it expanded on the original work in a way that doesn't impact the market for the original piece.
I love your videos, keep striving ❤
One guy: how can anyone dislike this
Other guy: talks shit
One guy: OK back it up
Other guy: OK I will
One guy: wait that’s illegal

i was so surprised when i saw you only have 13k subs. i though you had at least a million
I love the way you analyze the whole performance and that's why I ask you if you could review Willskeyboardsink's version of rush e
this entire “drama” with Fanchen boils down to misunderstanding and AW SHIT HERE, WE GO AGAIN
Idk anything about piano but I really enjoyed this video!
I understand why BTMC is so good at streaming now
HAHAHAHHAHA
LOL
This reminds me alot of that song by Brahms called Hungarian March or somethin like that.. u can tell whichever piece came first strongly influenced the other
It’s because both pieces use this, for lack of a better term, Eastern European sound. The minor key, the speeding up, the fast runs, etc. I don’t think the Hungarian Dance was a direct influence on Rush E, but they both borrowed from the same source which makes them sound similar.
@@btat16 but do u know the song i am talkin about. It was in aminor and had like a very 1 2 1 2 1 2 rythm on the left hand. Had a bit of a gypsy feel to it to, i think it was called hungarian march by brahms. Im 100% sure its brahms, so jus check brahms and the word hungarian and its one of his most famous pieces its in pop culture too
@@thebicycleman8062 Yes, Hungarian Dance. It uses a very popular dance accompaniment pattern that emphasises beat 1 and 2
Correction: Hungarian Dance not Rhapsody
@@btat16 I think Hungarian rhapsody is a pice by Liszt
How can you dislike this? I don't see anyone else actually playing it.
That 4 3 2 1 hand move is for counting beats too
How can people dislike this? I don't see anyone play like this.
-famous last words
Im only a few minutes in and loving this video so far. Just found your channel, subbed. Brings me back to being a young kid and taking piano lessons. Still regret not taking it more seriously but i was an anxious kid with adhd idgafuuuuuuuuuuuuck haha
50 fingers wouldnt even be enough... I'm pretty sure I saw all 88 keys lit up at the same time in the short clips that I've seen.
Some of the keys are literally spelling out words and drawings, it’s more than just a physically impossible song
use your arms
Looking through the most difficult part, it would be playable with 21 pianists and 11 grand pianos. The 4 pianists playing the melody share one piano, the 8 pianists playing the constant repeated notes section all share one piano, and the other 9 pianists have a piano each as they need to use a whole piano. One of the pianists however must be allowed an engine - probably a block of wood strapped to each hand, one 9 keys wide, the other capable of playing all the keys at once.
For his actual answer 15:38
legend right here
7:42 love how you started playing that song more and cut it out the video really shows how much you love the piano
I really dont think Fanchen meant to be mean in the way people think. Learning music is harsh, has always been. Some of the greatest musicians learned music in very harsh way. You can argue whether you agree with that or not, but that's just how the cookie crumbles
Absolutely random but 1:59 gave me SERIOUS Halo 3 whiplash holy hell
Fanchen is my hero and spiritual animal. I admire everything about him.
That opinion is pretty mediocre, no offense
