Anatoly Karpov vs Eugenio Torre
Platja d'Aro (2018), June-29
Bogo Indian Defense (E11)
A small town in Catalonia's beautiful Costa Brava has welcomed four renowned chess players from the past. Anatoly Karpov, Ljubomir Ljubojevic, Anatoly Vaisser and Eugenio Torre are playing a unique rapid and blitz tournament in Platja d'Aro. David Llada sent some very nice pictures from the singular Legends Tournament.

"If you can win a game instantly, you should definitely do that." I'll definitely keep this advice in mind! :)
It's a surprisingly valuable one. And applies to many games (most of those that can be won).
As Ben Finegold would say, "If you're taking notes, winning is good."
Why? Are you Giri?
Kidding
If you see a checkmate in 1, look for something better
The Denmark-Croatia game was absolutely crazy! Good luck to Croatia in the quarter finals! :)
They were both equally weak
Christermi Christos Croatia will win the world cup. don't underestimate them. they beat Argentina
Samar Das Argentinia is shit though
I'm Chilean but was totally rooting for Croatia. My both favourite teams to win the cup are Uruguay and Croatia.
" you cant see the forest, because of a tree"
-agadmator 2018
lol I missed that one
"Man sieht den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht", was what he meant.
Thank you for making a video about Eugene Torre. He is I believe the only remarkable Filipino Chess Grandmaster next to Wesley So. Your videos make me appreciate the beauty of chess. Keep it up! From the Philippines
Mark Angelo Cartagena he’s not that strong compared to many grandmaster only Wesley so is the super strong one
@@jimpatrick3452 in his prime years. He beat Karpov and won a tournament against Karpov. Ofcourse as you age you will decline
@@jimpatrick3452 Come on, he is already in his 60's approaching 70's. In the 1970's up until the 90's, GM Torre was destorying the top GMs, World Champion and Former World Champions that time. Is the "1st Asia's GM" not enough for you? Then if you are strong, defeat IM Daniel Quizon first.
@@jimpatrick3452I'll give you one notable GM he defeated. It was former world champion GM Mikhail Tal.
Eugene Torre is from another generation and there is no doubt he would have been an elite player like Wesley So had he been in Europe or the USA. Mind you, he played in all of 11 rounds in Baku Olympiad 2016 registering 9 wins and 2 draws without any loss to score a whopping 10 out of 11 points, earning him the bronze medal on Board 3, which incidentally was won y Wesley. All these years, the criteria used is performance rating instead of the old percentage result. Had it been the latter criteria, Eugene easily tops Board 3 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Hey, I have a suggestion. Could you make a series of players playing in styles not typical of them? Such as Karpov playing a great tactical, attacking game, Tal playing a slow, defensive game and other games like these? Thanks for the great content
Just got home from a hard day of work and now it"s time for a craft beer and an Agad video!
Hurrah for Croatia, totally rooted for them for agadmator
Congrats to GM Karpov for winning the tournament and winning this game against Asia's first GM.
From a Danish person to you, congratulations for the win in the World Cup. Take the title!
When Modric missed the penalty I was so sad but when they finally qualified I thought could rest at last...and then I saw a youtube notification from none other than agadmator...my day finally got better
You are inspiring me to study games I otherwise wouldn't research on my own. Cheers to upping my elo!
I'm Danish and and I was rooting for Denmark and Croatia so when they met in the first game I was shattered! bummed Denmark didn't take it home, hope Croatia takes it all the way the have a great team
Congratulations to you from Mexico, for Croatia win over Denmark. Usually I would be neutral between them but I was rooting for Agadmator so I was screaming with each penalty miss and goal. What an exciting final, right to the final shot! Good luck to Croatia in next round vs. ? (today: croatia 1 to denmark 1 / penalty shootout: croatia 3- -Denmark 2 in penalty shoot). Of course I am for Mexico vs. Brazil tomorrow.
First one should be Ljubojevic, guy in the book looks like Kramnik :D
Croatia have made it to quaterfinal ..loved the match ..it was terrific
Hi agadmator. Greetings from the Philippines
Shout out from Philippines!
I have been watching your channel for a long time, and just now I realized that you are from Croatia, you really got me inti chess, usput cestitam na prolasku u crtvrtfinale Sp-a!!!
Congratulations on your advancement to the quarterfinal from Denmark. I am sure we put up more of a fight than you anticipated :-)
Before seeing your videos I used to play chess for fun. But I am entering a FIDE associated tournament in a few days. I hope you make a video about tips for unrated players.
Your country players are doing a great job in world cup 2018. I am looking forward to their matches
I like this video...completly clear tutor...very good
The tournament has finished as per your last announce of points.
1. Anatoly Karpov 12,5
2. Anatoli Vaïsser 12,0
3. Ljubomir Ljubojevic 7,5
4. Eugenio Torre 4,0
Hello from slovenia, Jebena utakmica, crazy gamee, noraaaa tekma! Congratulations to the neigbors Croatia for the winn..
9:58 That moment when you spotted the correct move
Omg that Croatia vs Denmark penalty shoot out had my heart going was rooting for Croatia, had a bet with my friends that Croatia would win.
Nice name you have there
Hey. Its Eugine Torre. He's a filipino grandmaster, i know him because im a filipino too.
I really like how Antonio has made contacts with photographers and other key members of the chess community in an effort to further enrich his channel. It's indicative of a strong will as well as an understanding of the power and potential of his own life. It's always a beautiful thing to observe -- a gentle desire to expand one's life without limitation. And certainly, the chess analysis is superb as well.
Your English is better than many native speakers. And it's "Can't see the Wood for the trees" so close enough lol
In American English, it's "can't see the forest for the trees."
Daniel Gunter Which, to be fair, is less confusing. I didn't know that.
What a game it was.Thank God I was not supporting either of team else you wouldn't be reading my comment. Feel for Denmark though #CRODEN
Watching your videos daily Agadmator
Amazing game between croatia and denmark! Good luck for the quarters from portugal
The games yesterday and today were absolute madness on the chessboa... Uhhh football pitch 😂
Neat! Isnt Torre the first asian gm?
11:09 Karpov “capitalizes”. Riiight. :)
Congrats for the win and thanks for kicking out our neighbours! // Sweden
Congrats on the Croatia victory. My Portugal is no longer in the World Cup so I'm gonna watch Croatia games only ahaha
Hi, Agad, this is my first comment to ur videos. Love them so much.. Love from kerala, India.
You can't see the forest for the trees
This channel is my favorite pawnhub
Mr. Ljubomir Ljubojević looking at Karpov looking at Kramnik :-D
I didn't know Torre was still alive. He was big during the Fischer era.
Haha that was close on pens! I knew you'd be back if you won lol. Thanks for the vid!
Karpov has been one of my favorites for 40 years :)
First viewer. What a shocking nice game. Congratulations Antonio for this channel !!! 🤟🤟🤟
As always, great job on your analysis.
Congratulation on the Croatian win against Denmark. I cheered for Denmark :P, but then again what an intense ending. I hope Croatia get far.
With the points distributed, it appears that every player has 6 games played in rapid and 12 in blitz. So two games with each opponent in rapid and 4 with each in blitz. Does it make sense?
Unfortunately I don't recognize the person next to Karpov, but the GM in the book as I suppose is Vladimir Kramnik. The game reminds of what Tartakower said, "The next to last mistake wins."...
You are the fucking best . Can't stoppin watching your channel
#1 thank you a lot
"You can't see the forest because of a tree." - Agadmator
O jebote skoro srcani dobio Subasicu kralju
Why didn't you mention that the gentleman on Karpov's right is Ljubomir Ljuboljevic´...
Is there a soccer comp on somewhere?
Hmmm...
Footy here is AFL !! (Australia)
9:05 "Man sieht den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht"
Its not a forest without the trees lol. I enjoy your vids btw!keep it up!
keep them( legends) coming pls
“He missed the forest for the trees” - great vids amigo
Nice quote!
Nice video, interested how Torre didn't see Nf2. I found it instead you said ,,found the move'' with intuition :)
Croatia in semi-finals soon!
Greetings from Poland, Antonio! :D
Ljubejovic and in the picture is kramnik
Good vídeo. But where is your dog? It is very nice.
Croatia denmark was close man 🙂. I'd betted a month ago that croatia whould win the world cup so it was quite tense yesterday
"You can't see the forest because of a tree" - Agadmator 2018
I wonder what rating is Karpov or Torre today?
You can't see the woods for the trees.... is the phrase I think you were looking for
Lucky Croatia in the world cup game. Schmeichel just destroyed the field but unfortunately not enough. Greetings from Denmark
i'm a brazilian and i watch your channel
Vladimir kramnik who is in the fotograph am i right? And sorry about the bad english.
The man next to karpov is lubojevic but as for the man in the book, what's the idea here?
AaronTheAron looks like Kramnik
i'm a brazilian and i watch your chanel
Photo challenge why does the gentlemen remind me of Petrosian
It would be nice if you would do a match between a danish and a croatian player tomorrow!
Ljubomir Ljubojevic, man behind Karpov
I think it was Eugenio Torre on the table at the back (partly hidden) on blue checkered shirts.
next to Karpov standing gm L. Lubojevicz
So many blunders
Wow, you really won't expect some moves to be blundered by some masters.
Sadly, the human mind deteriorates as it ages :c
Jajajajaaja
Maybe it is because of their age? They are not as strong as they once were. But I think it is great for all the amateur chess players to see that even the best players make blunders. It makes the game seem more human.
Blitz game, plus old age
It's rapid, not blitz.
Excelent sunday...i had been working for 11 hours
If you can play slowly, you can play quickly.
Vladimir Kramnik, photo next to Karpov
Karpov could consistently beat them then, can beat them consistently now. A legend!
Congrats for the victory!
Srećno protiv Rusije!
Even that im not a croatian i really hope that they win the world cup , this year is their golden generation
Thats ljubomir ljubujevic and kramnik
when is next leela game coming
If anyone could know this, and forgive my ignorance, why ALL the croatians names (or last names, i think) seems to end with "ić" sufix? 🤔Does It mean anything or is it Just too common?
By the way, congratulations for the Croatia result
Arthur Barbosa de Lira common
Oh that guy, twin evil brother, monatoly karpov!
I believe the expression you were looking for was “He missed the forest for the trees”
Why did he resign there? Couldn’t he of played that where they both had one piece each, white rook, black knight. Is that not worth playing or something?
Quote for the next video:
"If you can win a game instantly, you should definitely do that."
- Agadmator, 2018 (10:44)
he is Ljubomir Ljubojević indeed :)
how about Nf4 instead Nf2?
Ljubojevic
And for some extrem extra points who is the waiter
Isn't the one in the book next to Karpov Kasparov?
Is Eugene Torre and Eugenio Torre the same person??
Lezarcus Aceldam Yes
I'm glad Croatia won, I'm tired of TV mentioning and showing Schmeichel's father in the crowd whenever he does anything (as I'm sure he is himself).
Well one of them is Kramnik but I don't know the other guy.
So many lesson in this game :)
