Been watching your videos for years. Great job always. It would be nice for you to make a short video introducing yourself telling us a little about yourself with a photo to put a picture to your voice. Thanks. Be well
You are a real pro reporting the procedures of fire fighting. This was such a sad disaster... your reporting is compassionate as well as informative. Thanks for traveling far to bring us this story.
Wow,that was a heck of a fire! Floors collapsing, walls collapsing, window falling and cutting hose and once again the ever burning roof material. Darn lucky that other exposure didn't go. Thank you for a great job covering this.
There ventilation techniques were suspect! That's why it spread out of control! Even the guy filming pointed that out! I wouldn't call this great by any means!
This footage captured every firefighters nightmare....old wood, mazes of hallways, drop ceilings added walls. To see the speed this fire spread was truly shocking to watch. Architecturally, I still love old structures, but your videos has forever changed my ability to spend time in them.
Great job once again. It's surprising that the departments don't have radios, especially on the tower trucks. The chiefs having to yell up to the crews on the towers. You are right about the older buildings. I have to give FDNY a lot of credit for how they fight fires but they are also a much larger operation.
Very common fire behavior in a old. Style construction building... so many different void spaces from when it was built and any remodels during its time makes for many many different ways that fire can hide and spread throughout the building.... when it gets going like that you aren't gettin ahead and your gonna be doing surround and drown til you can make it inside to hit any remaining pockets of fire... if you even can make it back inside depending on the structural integrity of the building when it dies down... great video as usual 👌
My friend, you're the BEST ! You had a great position, I love seeing Tower Ladder's in operation. Sad fire, it's always heartbreaking to see a fire. Stay Safe brother !
I used to teach a reading smoke class that was really interesting. Great for predicting fire behavior, fire spread, survivability and risk / benefit tactics and teaching firefighter safety. This fire would be a great teaching tool. Great Job John!
Another great video. This is what my city went through in the 80s an 90s. Almost every weekend there was a major fire in an old set of buildings. The great Lynn fire was the biggest and that wiped out a block of old factories.
Great coverage of this fire and the other companies! Looks so different from the FDNY. I am nominating my “Golden Nozzle” award to the members fighting this blaze solo with hand lines. Particularly to the firefighter crouched on the road wrestling with a very powerful hose to try to drown the demon! Bravo!! That popping noise seemed like the building shouting “surrender” as the support beams gave up the battle. Very sad! Thanks JJ for the usual, beyond usual, experience you bring us! ❤️🔥🚒❤️🔥
That was an excellent video. You know how to use a camera. No shaking and moving all over the place and none of that constant zooming in and out. Just good steady camera work and good narration also. A new subscriber
Thank you 🙏 my brother for bringing us what most citizens never get to see and in a way thank God because this is seriously something that has some life changing events for many every day folks, I appreciate your strenuous work especially our BRAVE FIREFIGHTERS GOD BLESS YOU ALL🇺🇸🙏.
They definitely win the "Quietest Radio Traffic" award! Sometimes that popping comes from the refrigerator and air conditioner compressors letting go especially in apartment house fires.
Thank you for your knowledgeable Blow by Blow accounts of the fires you film!! So much loss in this enormous blaze!! You're awesome! As are the brave folks that serve us!
YES, IT WAS A LONG RIDE INDEED......AND YES VERY BAD AND SAD INDEED FOR ALL THE TENANTS WHO LOST EVERY SINGLE THING.....;o( THANKS SO MUCH MAUREEN.....
Thanks for heading north to Mount Vernon to cover this "beast"! Great coverage as usual, JJ! This is just an observation (no judgement) but the firefighters seemed "outgunned" from the beginning. (Your comments around the 57 minute point kind of echo my feelings). I can't imagine the pain the families who lost their homes are feeling. Take care of yourself!
Heavyweight class A foam right from the beginning I would use. A smaller fire department foam substitutes. Dawn liquid soap detergent. Buy them in 5 gallon containers. Cheaper way to fight fire.
With all that black smoke pushing out of those front windows I'm amazed that it took as long as it did. For the fire to shoot out of them. When I was a volunteer we had a similar building and Sit Situation, we were there for like 12 hours before we got it out. Thank you to all f firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.
Great coverage as always John despite this being out of your "general area." I hope everyone got out and no deaths or injuries happened. I commend the members of the companies that showed up to this nasty nasty fire and battled it. Despite not having radio coms, it didn't hamper you a bit. I was wondering if you covered that apartment fire in Brooklyn early either this morning or yesterday morning?
Kudos to the clever FF who shifted the leaking hose around so that the spray was protecting/cooling the brick exposure on the left side. Talk about turning a negative to your advantage!
As usual you have done a fantastic job with this viseo, we can always count on you to cover all the bases and thinking about the folks that lived and owned businesses in those buildings! Be safe and I wish there was a way to send a small donation to you for gas, upkeep of cameras and other sundries you may need!!!
WELL, THAT IS MOST KIND OF YOU LYNNE.....ONE DAY I WILL FIGURE OUT A WAY FOR THE DONATION THING.....AS FOR THE LOST PROPERTY IT IS SAD INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Wowwwwww thats Lots of Smoke and Verry Bic Fire , i,am so sorry for this folks , , bud thank you for this bieutifol video from you thank you so much john great video 👌👍
Good video as usual. I know of a few Fire Departments that go by the rule a fire doubles every 60 seconds. That guides their response on the fireground. This fire grew rapidly out of control. Stay safe John! 🚒🇺🇸
Thanks for driving out there. Great coverage. Those buildings were close to 200 years old I'm' guessing looking at the building and on the way, it was constructed, Balloon construction will go up very fast. there were no fire walls in that building. Once a fire gets going the building is all but gone.
John, great coverage and commentary. Your cough and clearing of throat sounds like sinuses. Keep those feet dry. Get some grub and be safe. Thanks again for an awesome job.
Great job John with having no radio in a place you don't know. We need to get you some water proof shoes. Your always doing the best. Just a wonderful Job...😊
The building that you showed across the street, that is now a lot. Unfortunately someone died in that fire. I hope it is not the same for this fire. I know this area well. . Thanks for the Videos
Great coverage John. I didn't see what the businesses were but they may be what was causing the popping noises. I did see floor coverings, so maybe chemicals. Also saw carpet cleaning also maybe chemicals.
Great coverage John! I took a break from watching fire videos for a while but will try to catch up with past incidents! Often being a firefighter you get tired of fire and need to take a break! Glad you are still rolling!!! I love it and bursted out laughing when I heard you say "I think that's a little more collapse than that" referring to collapse!
John, Good blow by blow! Block fires are all the same. They roll through, building to building. No fire walls or stops!!! FDNY can put a lot of equipment and almost unlimited manpower to work. You are correct, that volunteers are limited forces and also the distance that they have to travel to the scene. I have been to lot of them. Very few are stopped as fast as FDNY!!!
Another epic fire call JJ. So sad for the people who lost their businesses and homes. I had a 6 alarm fire up in Minnesota last Saturday we were on scene for 7 hours. It was a trucking company shop. And it started in the back and in 10 minutes heavy fire throughout the whole building it was devastating.
OH WOW.....THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS BAD FIRE.....HOPE ALL WERE OK AND I AGREE ABOUT ANYONE LOOSING EVERYTHING TO FIRES.....IT IS SO SAD INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
I like that you are smart enough to pick one good viewpoint and stick to it instead of running around like a fool. That helps us all follow the progress of the action from a steady point of view. In my opinion that is a much better method of reporting.
Glad you said one of the lines burst. I thought they were trying to put water on that side as a preventative, and I thought why not where the firewall is, why there? Haha makes sense now!
This fire was a beast! A living beast! You, that made this video, thanks so much. You were with us all the time. Wonder if the building collapsed or not. Great job, videomaker and the FF.
Nice video. If this was a volunteer area this place wouldn't need demolished. I know where I live it would of been a county all call and this place would of been about almost burned down. Tanker runs are far in farm country Pennsylvania.
That was a good fire Wish you would of stayed a little bit longer and the aftermath would of been good too Thank you brother for the awesome coverage 😊👌
WELL, I WAS THERE LONG ENOUGH AND WAS VERY TIRED.....HAD TO DRIVE BACK TO THE CITY AND THEN WORK ON THE VIDEO, EAT, GET GAS AND SLEEP.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
These styles of buildings are always hard to battle, so tightly close and when fire is in the walls it can travel so fast that ladder truck stream can't hit it. The only way is to rip-out the walls and ceilings to expose the flames, but with the roof fully involved the way it is you have to keep your crews safety a priority first and defensive.
Excellent coverage and that popping sound could be from Aerosol cans as there`s a Grocery shop close by. I suppose the up side to this fire would be that there is little to no wind. If it was windy, the building next door would be gone too.
I'm wondering why didn't the Mt Vernon tower at the onset of the fire pour any water? In my opinion if they were pouring water I think the fire wouldn't have been this bad. just my opinion
It takes a bit of time to establish adequate a water supply to aerial master streams. Usually a large diameter hose line((LDH) 5 or even 6 inch hose must be laid by an engine and pumped from a dedicated hydrant, sometimes hundreds of feet away. Firefighters motto: big fire = Big water.
Great coverage as usual. This is reality for most departments. FDNY is beyond the gold standard for staffing and resources…in my opinion (which that and about $7.00 will get you a latte in Hot Springs, SD)
John, the popping that you heard was probably cans of adhesive exploding used by the flooring company, good catch by the way. That was certainly worth the trip. From a old x-firefighter 🔥🚒 from Lancaster, Pa.
41:00: There were several businesses in the ground floor level of the three fire buildings, so the popping noise could be cans or containers exploding, could be anything, propane, paint, or any kind of spray cans.
Unfortunately old buildings like that are hard to contain. Unless you get a good hit on it it’s usually a defensive operation. Fought many like that as a Volunteer for 44 years. As always GREAT JOB JOHN
I have to admire mutual aid operations (there were many in New Jersey when I lived there), but the coordination can be difficult. I have to assume that they are aware of the capabilities of nearby departments. Also, interesting to see both tower ladders and a conventional ladder with a water nozzle. All of that replaced the old water tower units from earlier times.
You mentioned how these fires have to be dealt with quickly and aggressively. The first thing that came to my mind was the Marcal Paper factory. That not only spread throughout that whole (iirc 200 acre) complex, but it also started house fires in town because of the flying embers. That is a prime example of what can happen with these very large fires.
Sad. Looks like the whole structure was engulfed. The exterior walls look like they are red-brick. Which means they are subject to collapse. Very good video. Great narration.
The turbulent column of flames and sparks at the beginning says it all. It will be a pain to take out. I bet there is a lot of wood and vertical venting spaces in the walls of these older buildings.
Oh my! Watching from Hawaii..born NYC. Hey dude, take care of that cough. We need you, you hear? Have some NyC pizza. Nothing like that out here. I guess it really is the water.
Sorry I have so many entries, if I don't write it out I will forget what I was going to say or ask. John thank you so much for the amazing coverage. You are the best. Blessings to you and always stay safe. Blessings to the numerous fire departments, and all the first responders. Great job in an extremely difficult fire. All of you, keep safe, as well. 😁
Beginning of your video you stated that this fire is directly across from another fire with multiple alarms. Praying for those who have lost their homes. Cause determined yet? Arson?? Being across from another major fire?
Thanks for traveling to this fire. Great video. Such a loss for this community. Fire was just so hot but the firemen did a good job. It just would have taken a lot more water on it to make much difference.
Another excellent video, JJ! I don't think I could stand to live in buildings that are all together like that knowing that if one goes there's a good chance that the others will go, too. It's so very sad that so many folks have lost everything they had. 😢 I do have a question, though. I watched your day after video, (and that was another good one), and my question is how could they determine the cause of the fire if they demolished the building so quickly?
YES, I AGREE.....VERY SAD AND TOO CLOSE INDEED.....AS FOR THE CAUSE THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION INDEED.....I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY DID THE INVESTIGATION EITHER.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
How sad for all the folks who lost their homes. Thanks JJ for the great coverage.
Been watching your videos for years. Great job always. It would be nice for you to make a short video introducing yourself telling us a little about yourself with a photo to put a picture to your voice. Thanks. Be well
The only way you can find out about him is if you catch a glimpse of the legend JJ in another spectators video!!!! 😉
Even with no fire ground radio, you do an amazing job. Keep up the great work. Thanks for traveling up there to get this fire.
You are a real pro reporting the procedures of fire fighting. This was such a sad disaster... your reporting is compassionate as well as informative. Thanks for traveling far to bring us this story.
Aww you coulda tossed a ladder up in the back and got some hot shots ! Just kidding. Great coverage !
Wow,that was a heck of a fire! Floors collapsing, walls collapsing, window falling and cutting hose and once again the ever burning roof material. Darn lucky that other exposure didn't go. Thank you for a great job covering this.
YOUR WELCOME AND THIS WAS A VERY BAD FIRE INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
John, you are the best at what you do. Thanks and God bless and always stay safe❤
Great coverage as always. FDs did a great job given the intensity of the fire. Pretty amazing. Prayers for those who lost their homes.

Great job covering this terrible fire. Great job by all fire companies fighting this fire. Prayers to the families who lost their homes.
Great job once again. It's surprising that the departments don't have radios, especially on the tower trucks. The chiefs having to yell up to the crews on the towers. the 'popping' noise could well be containers of dry cleaning liquid going off, can be quite volatile and inflammable.
John....another great report...we can tell you are very knowledgeable about firefighting.Always enjoy your videos.🇨🇦

YES, GLASS FROM THE WINDOWS COME DOWN ON IT AND BURST IT.....THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS A LOT.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great coverage of a "mule" fire - very stubborn. Fire codes were quite different when this building was built.
I was wondering about that. There seems to be nothing in the way of fire resistance at all.
INTERESTING INDEED.....I HEAR YA AND THANKS SO MUCH.....

👍👍🇺🇸
So different than watching City mbrs and apparatus.
YES AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
Hats off to another great video. They had a losing battle it seems but they're firefighters and we know sometimes you get your ass kicked.
I AGREE! IN THIS CASE THEY HAD MANPOWER SHORTAGES.....BUT, THANKS SO MUCH.....
That was a good fire Wish you would of stayed a little bit longer and the aftermath would of been good too Thank you brother for the awesome coverage 😊👌

Urgh worst phobia ever. Fire can be very sneaky
excellent coverage of this fire....thanks JJ
I was just waiting for it to flash! I could see the fire glow above Burke so that coming out didn't surprise me. GREAT job John.
Great catch my lovely, fascinating to watch the smoke then the flames. That's was one very angry fire. Stay safe my lovely, love from UK❤
Great coverage John, thanks.
Great job! HEROS!!!! You all are Heroes!
That was a bad one Maj, very well covered as always 🤘
We need star a fundraiser and get you a 4k camera you'll videos will be even better although are pretty dang great now
Excellent coverage and that popping sound could be from Aerosol cans as there`s a Grocery shop close by. I suppose the up side to this fire would be that there is little to no wind. If it was windy, the building next door would be gone too.
WELL, I AM NOT SURE BUT THANKS SO MUCH ANDY.....
As always great job John. The fire load inside the building must have been huge.
YES, IT WAS LOADED WITH FIRE INSIDE FOR SURE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....

I would have been concerned about the vapors from the carpet cleaning company. Is there a Hazmat team covering that area?
WELL, I AM NOT SURE.....YOU HAVE TO CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL OFFICIALS.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
That made a mess, the video you shot was a scary looking fire
YES AND THANKS SO MUCH JULIE.....
Beginning of your video you stated that this fire is directly across from another fire with multiple alarms. Praying for those who have lost their homes. Cause determined yet? Arson?? Being across from another major fire?
NO CAUSE YET AND YES THERE WAS A HUGE FATAL FIRE ACROSS THE STREET OVER A YEAR AGO.....THANKS.....
Thanks for traveling to this fire. Great video. Such a loss for this community. Fire was just so hot but the firemen did a good job. It just would have taken a lot more water on it to make much difference.
John, I read today that the cause was the van starting on fire. I kind of figured that right away.
OH WOW, THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW PAUL.....I WAS BEGGINING TO WONDER.....WHAT A SHAME.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
GREAT CATCH AND RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT DEPTARTMENT !!!!!!
This is a perfect example of " fighting a fire" . What a battle.
YUP AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
Another excellent video, JJ!
I don't think I could stand to live in buildings that are all together like that knowing that if one goes there's a good chance that the others will go, too. It's so very sad that so many folks have lost everything they had. 😢
I do have a question, though.
