      Kenny wasn't a badass, he was complicated and tragic.
      His behavior shouldn't be put on a pedestal as he did some shit, but he's still one of the very few characters who genuinely never actually stops seeing Clementine as a child and treasuring what that means. His past as the father of a special needs child truly informs this unyielding sensibility that he can afford even to an unrelated and increasingly competent and independent young woman.
      That makes him a far more compelling character than just another generic zombiepocalypse badass paternal figure who can just swoop in and take care of the protagonist whenever the plot needs.
      His flaws make him so much more real. And made it hurt all the more that we won't get to see those traumas and frictions resolve

    Luke’s death is the worst written death in the Telltale side of TWD franchise and nobody can convince me otherwise. Sure, there are arguably dumber deaths out there but this one is the worst from a narrative perspective. We spent the last four episodes bonding with him and then Telltale threw his friendship with Clem into a frozen lake.
    Luke vs Kenny would’ve been absolute PEAK, it would’ve even rivaled lots of scenes from the show and the comic. We instead got a fight scene between Jane and Kenny but that one doesn’t work because the build was just so rushed. I think I’ve said enough on why Luke’s death was a massive mistake.

    • @AlabeStarbrown
      @AlabeStarbrown 2 месяца назад +80

      The problem is that Luke had no reason to fight Kenny, and he wouldn't have put AJ in danger like Jane did. So, in that scenario, the writers would probably have made Kenny lose control over something absurd, making the choice to save Luke the obvious one.
      The thing with Jane is that you don’t know about AJ until it’s too late, so you can’t tell if she’s right or not.

    • @arjunlagoon2015
      @arjunlagoon2015 2 месяца назад +42

      I agree that it would be a better ending, but the problem is I can't think of any reason that Kenny and Luke would fight to the death. Luke would never do what Jane did with hiding the baby.

    • @brandellsarver9365
      @brandellsarver9365 2 месяца назад +44

      @@AlabeStarbrownI disagree about there being no possible way for Luke and Kenny to fight other than making Kenny come off as insane. The best way to have them fight is to have them disagree on what to do with the group. Kenny obviously wants to go to Wellington while Luke would want to go somewhere else like Howe’s or the ski lodge from episode two. This is a morally grey discussion because while Wellington could very well exist, it could just be non existent or an evil community like Carver’s. Luke not wanting to go to Wellington makes sense but there’s no guarantee that there will be supplies at Howe’s or the ski lodge.
      Have the fight start from either Luke or Kenny stating that they’re not gonna risk Clem and AJ’s lives over something that might not even be worth it. Feel free to disagree but this is a whole lot more satisfying than Jane starting some fight to kill Kenny, the fight we got just kinda ignores the theme of family that was with the whole Luke/Kenny rivalry.

    I wish they remade these games Until Dawn style where you can actually save most if not all characters. It would be so interesting to see how each character could be saved. Like imagine instead of just standing around doing nothing, Lee ran inside the house, to the kitchen and quickly cut his arm off with the cleaver. Boom Lee is saved. Luke drops his ak or gives it to Clem as she's smaller and he doesn't die. Boom Luke is saved. It would also be so interesting to see the characters interact with one another. Ok, but what IF! The base game (the one we got) can be used as a skeleton, and as time passes, Telltale could ADD more options, like updating it bit by bit, untill you get a game full of branches and choices and there's so many endings...

    • @xirolyfe
      @xirolyfe 2 месяца назад +13

      @@逆巻スバル-f5heven if that seems like a good idea on paper, it’s completely impossible. with each new choice the number of outcomes you need to consider, even if it’s only a single line of dialogue, exponentially increases. in a standalone game, like until dawn, detroit: become human, etc., you can have these drastically different storylines and endings, but the story would need to be reimagined from the ground up to have this style in the walking dead. or have it so even if you have drastically different storylines up until a point, the ending is largely the same (clem leaves a group and sees none of them again, so it doesn’t really matter who lives or dies). either way, it’d be a completely different game that would probably prioritize the quantity of available options instead of the quality of the story.

    • @lacivertcikolata
      @lacivertcikolata 2 месяца назад +4

      TWD is different from Until Dawn. First of all, Until Dawn is not a serie, so that means you can either kill all of them or save them, it's up to you. In TWD you have to choose one of the characters to make and continue the story. For example, you cannot save Carley/Doug from Lilly in the roadway. If you'd done that, Lilly wouldn't've left the group, so season 4 wouldn't've been there. Or if You saved Lee, then what was gonna happen? Finally making choices makes the game more painful. You have to face the results either bad or good. Sometimes lose your fav characters, sometimes save them. It makes the game more realistic and captivating.

      Well you know what, the season 2 was just a way to show the progression of 2 characters, mainly Kenny and Clementine. All the other characters were puppets for the episodes to build up. Only couple of them felt like a real connection like Luke, Rebecca, Pete or Alvin. All those had huge potentials to continue in S3 but yeah they wanted to start fresh and pulled out all the characters in some odd ways. That's why the characters drop like flies in S2. Only Kenny and Clem are the worthy ones along with AJ. Season 3 was to show Clem progress through with AJ to set the stage for S4. S3 was completely worthless

Most of the developer, budget was move to develop TWAU Finale. So that's why in episode 4 it was so rush (and bad) and it's also the main reason why they changed the villain in ep 4: the Russian instead of 400 days character (which is a shame), I'm not sure about episode 5 though. One of the things I liked about Luke is that despite being set up (early at least, he has moments after ep 2 but for the most part everythingafter thats a clusterfuck) as Clem's next caretaker, he's very deliberately written as taking that role on differently than Lee. He's not simply taking care of Clem and keeping her out of danger, he trusts her competency and offers support, he treats her more or less as an equal, if one who needs a boost sometimes. The bridge is such a good scene to express this, their banter is cute with alot of immediate chemistry and when the fight starts he trusts Clem to take care of things while he handles his own situation. God I miss him, and him as the one on the other side of the Final Choice would have been such a good dichotomy. Two people who love Clem genuinely as family, very different ways of showing it. Luke can be flakey and would surely one day make the mistake of trusting Clem's abilities too much, but we know he would nurture all the good human things in her, try to make a life worth surviving for in her. Kenny is unstable and quick to blame anyone but himself when suffering and Clem gets caught in that crossfire, but we know he would do anything to keep her safe, another person would never lay a hand on her as long as he's there. And that is an interesting choice to make.

As much as I love and adore Kenny already; I love Luke EVEN more. He had an absolute goldmine of potential. He was always a good chat, cool accent/voice, awesome design, he was hella patient and trusting in life or death situations (which we ALL need in life and no other character would ever have this sense of “it’ll be okay, he’s got this, I got this, just let him do this thing and be his backup” ever again in the series as a whole. ) he was supportive, jokey, he could be easily rational/talked through when he cracks under pressure, he was always a good smile and the perfect survivor partner to have around. If yall made a plan, he’d STAND by it and have ur back 100%. He was never a burden and would make sure he can still be a reliable individual to himself as well, so you never ever felt like you were dragging broken baggage. Both him and Clem would put their all into everything they did, and both were hella loyal and can easily be rationed with. I can only imagine the absolute triple A tier team he would’ve been with Clem and AJ.

    I always wish Clem had more of an option to defend herself against Bonnie's guilt talk towards her. Clem letting Bonnie know who's fault it really is or even slapping sense into her would be a great emotional scene. Also a decision like that would fracture the group more and would give more concrete reasoning for Bonnie to eventually leave with Mike and Arvo later.

  • @Lunocity
    @Lunocity 2 месяца назад +1

    One idea I've had since seeing Luke's death from way back to have it feel more satisfying, or at least more heart retching would be that the option given to cover him or help him would make a small difference in who leaves with Arvo. Like if you help Luke everything still happens with him saving Clem from the walker under the ice, but that if you cover him instead of Bonnie surfacing it's Luke who comes up panicked saying that Bonnie got dragged down by a walker that originally grabbed him. From their once they reach Arvo's place, and the group is split the group could start making their points of not going to Wellington while Kenny is dead set on it. With eventually during the night instead of Bonnie, Mike, and Arvo leaving like normal in the Luke lives route he's leaving with them with the scene starting with Luke telling the other's he's going to go get Clem so the four of them can leave, but inevitably like normal Arvo will still end up shooting Clem, but Luke will be the one to freak out over her being shot. From there Clem passes out to either Mike telling Luke they have to leave, or Luke yelling for Kenny / Jane, depending on how close people had gotten Luke and Clem through prior choices.

      The scene in Howes where he appears, I always have Clementine hug Luke. I do think to a kid Clementine's age in season 2, having someone like Luke empathise with them after being alone, going through mud and blood for months. As Luke and Clementine spent time with Luke, I felt like she was looking up to Luke more and more, as a little sister would towards an older brother

    Ill genuinely never not be mad abt the fact that they switched him and Jane in the storyline, because Luke vs Kenny had been set up the entireee game and Luke actually was like family to Clementine whereas Jane just constantly displayed how much she wanted to leave and dgaf abt the group or her. It just irks me so bad that they killed him off in that lazy ahh scene and then forgot about him when he was such a genuinely great character that cared for Clem, also the decision in the end would be 1000x harder and more impactful if it was a choice between Kenny and Luke

    We need a video about Vernon, about how well he was written by Telltale as a backstabber, even if you didn't lie to him or threaten him, Vernon acknowledges Lee's leadership depending on your choices at Crawford, even offering to take Clementine in. Vernon still steals the boat and ditches his group. Telltale did a good job showing how much of a backstabber Vernon was.

    FUN FACT: LUKE WAS NOT MEANT TO DIE

    The biggest mistake Luke made was having sex with Jane when he was supposed to be on watch. If you let Sarah live she was the only one who died b/c of that incompetence. Basically Luke was probably the one who Carver insane. Just like he did Kenny.

    I feel like at the end instead Jane and Kenny. It should have been a decision between Luke and Kenny. In my opinion Jane didn't seem like the character I'd empathize with. The decision would have been harder if it was luke because, just like kenny, was important to clem.

  • @MATAX5
    @MATAX5 2 месяца назад +1

    Luke vs Kenny wouldn’t have worked compared to Jane vs Kenny because way more people would’ve chosen to save Luke. Not me but fur sure 99% of people would’ve chose Luke over Kenny. Jane just should’ve had more screen time throughout the episodes to feel more significant to the season.
    The whole thing about Luke is that he’s that guy that’s too charismatic to be held accountable for any mistakes he makes and he makes a lot throughout the season. His death in episode 5 reflects his recklessness attitude that we see when we first meet him and when he falls through the floor at the bridge. Also of course you cut out the part when Luke tells Nick that he’s totally on board with locking Clementine in the shed to Nick after they close the doors.
    To be fair, I don’t blame people for fawning over Luke considering of all the adults, he’s the most chill towards Clementine other than Pete and Sarita. Of all the characters from season 2, Luke was the character that remained consistent throughout even in death. No they didn’t kill Luke off over some dumb ship some girl made in some RUclips comments, they just wanted to give Kenny more of a fighting chance.

    Luke maybe a good character but Carlos ain't either he's a terrible doctor or he trusted that clem might be with Carver because no matter a bite that deep Clem would have had a fever in the morning, and you can clearly see it's too big to be a human bite, a doctor would know this I feel. So he set up a game he knew she would loose and thus be shot in the assumption she was a Walker

    I’ve been wondering for a while now: when are you going to talk about characters from seasons 3 and 4? Or are you planning to talk about those seasons at all?
    I suppose you’re first trying to "complete" the characters who made it to season two, at least. That would explain why you haven’t made a video about Clementine or Lilly yet.

    Besides Lee Clementine Jesus (TWD Game ) and Kenny
    Definitely Luke is also in my top 5 favorite characters
    People like Luke for the same reasons people like Daryl in the TV series
    Besides combat and survival skills
    Personality wise people
    Like their charming demeanor (since he bagged both bonnie and jane ) and they always takes care of the people they love in the group when people are at their lowest
    And are always down for the cause
    And dont abandon ship when things get rough
    Besides clemetine doing most of the work (because obviously main character playing reasons )
    Luke helps clementine most of the time
    With scouting the bridge
    Helping the group escape from carvers even tho he got caught because he was starving but desperate times happen
    With hunger and trailing carvers people for days
    And a emotional support to clem and everyone else to fall to
    As a 2nd option since kenny wasnt around and when kenny lost someone hed close out from people
    Luke deserved better man

    I understand that a character being likeable doesn't exempt them from dying; the zombie apocalypse don't discriminate. What I DIDN'T like was the aftermath of Luke's death, obviously the most glaring issue being Bonnie's reaction. If THAT was handled better I think people wouldn't necessarily be happy about his death, but definitely more satisfied leaving it at 'he sacrificed himself for Clem'.
