Hey Tim Thank you so much for this video. As a Swiss, it makes me so proud to hear your praise. I wll honor my late father's K31 as long as I live, with witch he stood at the the Swiss border for 3 years during WW2, defending my country against the Nazis. When I die, I will hand it over to my son, who will continue to hold the flag from our proud Swiss family. Also love all your other videos, especially if they are about guns from my country. (E.g. me as a proud owner of a Sphinx SDP Compact too, as well as my own Swiss Army Service Rifle StGw 90 / SIG 550.) Please keep going with your great work! A big fan from Switzerland Andy
Love the Swiss straight pulls, that beer keg charging handle is awesome. I don't think you talk too much, listening and learning about firearms is way more interesting than hurting the ears while watching someone shoot for 20 minutes 😂
britska radiometeorograph Agree, listening to someone tell me the same vague reason they like something 17 different ways or watching endless range session with no actual fact or insight I’d booooooring! Tim always packs in details I don have to research if I’m interested in a firearm.
My grandad was issued the G11 in 1915, this remained his rifle to 1947 when she finished his days as reservist, my dad got his K31 in 1957. Sadly none of the rifles remained in the family but I managed to get hold of the models in recent years. The name for the G11 with the troops was the Mahogany Flute, or in german "Mahagoni Flöte".
I've got a very nice 1958 vintage K31. Love it! It was cool meeting you up at NRAAM and thank you for the I voted for Adam pin you pulled off your hat and MAC patch you gave me at the round table event. Keep the videos coming Tim!
That carbine really jumps up off of that pack when you fire it. A friend has a K1911 that he is selling to make room in his safe. Rather than trying to convince him to buy a bigger safe I decided the easiest way for me to help him was to buy the K1911. Can't wait to get it in a few weeks.
Anybody can shoot guns, but it's the talking parts that make us endeared to a particular channel. The Military Arms Channel is the perfect blend of pew pew and conversation.
I was lucky and got one of the ones with matching serial number bayonet from Classic. My only disappointment was no troop tag (my K31 didn't have one either).
ritterbruder212 I got a spare. Rare to get original ones again. The metal one should do you fine. Also we you replace the nob check for rust. My replacement handle had a lot of small pitting. You want to get that off.
*Miguel Hernandez* There is a sticker on my K31 that someone told me awhile back meant that it was in a shooting match in Switzerland. I made a small video showing the M1911 I got at Classic, letting people know about the deal, while also showing my K31. Someone actually from Switzerland told me that sticker was actually the coat of arms for one of the cantons (basically the same as one of our states) and this was akin to someone from Texas putting a Lone Star sticker on their AR. Good Info to have... I am still leaving the sticker on.
I have two of these and I'm reluctant to give one to my buddy because theyre just so nice! EDIT: Also worthy mention the POSITIVE ejection on these guns, so cool
Those rifles have excellent primary extraction. The locking lugs and their grooves are slightly helical, giving about a 20-fold advantage towards the charging handle during the phase where the bolt unlocks.
I have one .... sporterized by someone back in the 1950s ...... chamber has been shortened and recut to 300 Savage. Makes a nice little deer rifle. Back in the 1990s when I bought it I sure got some strange looks from people at the range. Had more then a few people ask me what broke on my semi auto that I had to rack the slide after each shot.
I also got a really nice "P" 96/11 from the recent Classic Firearms offering. The rifle had a little extra surprise for me as it came with one of the Swiss Lienhard subcaliber inserts inside it. Definite shout out to the informative Bloke on the Range channel for having videos on that subcaliber system or I would have been completely lost as to what was happening. Scary how fast Bloke just got smacked by RUclips and thankfully many of the other firearm channels and fans helped get Bloke back up and running today.
Cool Video, Miss the days where it was a 3 hour drive to the range in Switzerland from my apartment in Germany. Ammo was $0.17 per round on the range. Have a K-31 with diopter sights as I used to shoot with Swiss matches. I also have a G-96/11. I am also left handed just have to roll a little while chambering a round. Match shooting is done in prone.
Absolutely the Rolex of bolt rifles. And yes, everything about them demands you do your part, no halfway measures. That was the mindset of the Swiss, at that point in time. Recoil is authoritative, as are my Mosins, no lightweights allowed. They demand you do your part, to be worthy of that degree of accuracy.
I also had a troupe tag in my K-31. Made a copy of it and sent it to the Swiss Consultant in San Francisco. They tracked down the family of the man that owned it. I asked if they would like their grandfather’s rifle back. They didn’t want it.
Oleg Molot kind act but the reason it probably got into your hands is because they didn't want it and the family isn't active in shooting. Only now are the Swiss sports shooters starting to realize that the old milsurp are better than the modern stuff they have.
They are excellent rifles. Even in Italy they are very popular and appreciated for their precision of manufacture. With the GP 11 ammunition are very accurate.
I got my e-mail and my 1911 I should be able to pick up tomorrow...Can't find any GP 11 ammo though so I had to settle for some Privi?...The blue box stuff..
mike C you can convert to shoot boxer but that's a little bit of work. I got some GP11 that I can convert but I need to get some things to do the conversion.
John Deeter Prvi is good. GP11 is getting hard to find and if you reload it's a little hard to reload. I say Prvi is fine. People make GP11 seem like the greatest ammo out for the Swiss rifles. It's really good for milsurp ammo but you can handload better.
Wow nice stock on he G11. If I could own only one rifle. It would be my K11. Probably not practical because of ammo but who cares. Sold my K31 and bought another K11. I just like them better.
Tim, enjoyed the video. It would be interesting to see which bolt action would shoot faster and more accurate. Swiss 1931, Mauser, Nagant, Enfield, Springfield, and whatever other WW1 or WW2, you might like to add in. Call it, "The MAC, Mad Minute."
400 USD?!? I bought three in 2010 for 240 Swiss Francs with bajonett. Here in Switzerland the offering price is still at the most 250 Francs, today about 275 USD (December 2023 rate).
I thought I heard you say that you can’t reload the brass? If so, I’m curious why. I have a K1911 that was converted into a carbine and I reload for it. There obviously isn’t a lot of brass for it on the ground at the range so I bought a couple of hundred of Norma brass and have been reloading for about a year. I found the load data that’s as close to GP11 and follow it.
I think it tells something about the way the Swiss make their stuff that the GP11 is now what.. 107 year-old load.(?) and it is still very viable, accurate, ballistically efficient and a powerful cartridge.. Kinda like the 1905-load of the German 8x57IS with the 153gr spitzer.. Same thing goes with the workmanship of the weapons.. I read somewhere that if there was to be built a military rifle with the same standards of quality and fitting than a let's say a Mauser G98, the cost of manufacture would rise up to 5-6K/$-range.. 6 grand rifles to conscripts to fuck around with.. :D
Like said "read from somewhere", I don't recall exactly.. Could have been Canadian dollars..? However I do find that 2000$ kinda low for that's a normal price for today's quality rifle.. Sauers, Blasers, Mausers and Sakos and Kimbers of today start at around 2000-3000+€ instead of dollars but of course there is a profit margin added. Even an FN SCAR costs more than 2000 bucks and it has alloys and plastics in it and practically no handwork.. Same with the Sig 550-series.. The price what it used to cost back in the days of early 1900's is very likely that 2000-3000$ per rifle in today's money.. But what it would cost to manufacture one NOW according the same standards of manufacturing and precision is another calculation. It is like having a rifle built by a gunsmith. And then giving it to raw recruits in mass armies to abuse and mishandle.. :D
sherm dog they made a lot of straight pulls the cheapest is the M95 (hard to get ammo for), the Ross is a very good straight pull, and then you have the Swiss rifles. Anything not updated for the 1911 ammo (GP11 and 7.5x55) is not safe for it. The early Swiss straight pulls use a 7.5x53.5 which isn't made anymore and moat be handmade.
Go on dumb question to ask. Connor's comment about ejection. When you turn the bolt on a regular bolt action you're kinda helping the case ease out of the chamber. With these you just yank straight back. (No quotation marks as I'm not sure I've got him verbatim) OK so you're yanking straight back but as you still have locking lugs to disengage then surely the end of the bolt with the ejector on still turns? I thought that was the clever thing about the Swiss action. It uses cams to allow the pull and push to provide the required 1/4 turn of a bolt with a simplified hand action. No practical experience (UK resident) but was listening to what was said and I thought, "I don't get that at all."
You’re actually right. I didn’t want to correct him but a straight pull does intact have a rotating bolt. The bolt handle on a rifle like the Mauser does give you a bit more leverage IMHO when working a stuck case out whereas the straight pulls are more abrupt when you man handle them and can rip rims off. I can’t say this is a common issue and therefore rather moot. But back to your point they both do in fact rotate/cam into and out of lockup. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll take my moment of glory while I can because I'm sure to ask questions where I miss the point entirely. I've got some interest in a subject of which I have virtually no practical knowledge but at the moment fortunate enough to have access to many educational content creators. Perhaps more accurately film or documentary makers in the non RUclips world. RUclips does have lot of parallels to prehistoric normal TV. A lot of it is moving wallpaper or cheap dross that exists only for; ad revenue, product promotion fees, phone line promotion, etc, etc, etc Ad Astra. (as another YT presenter is fond of saying) However hidden in all that dogshit are true gold nuggets. If you are watching one of these channels then it's only common courtesy to sit up straight and listen to what they are saying. Hence why I was listening intently. I'm sad about current YT attitudes because I've only found a lot of the nuggets by accident and I fear I'll miss many more before I find them if they're hounded out by YT or just can't afford to produce content because they're being shafted out of ad revenue.
On the 1911 rifle models, is the wooden stock all one piece of wood with a separate wooden top hand guard held together by the metal bands? I only ask because I am finding it difficult to find any information regarding the subject online. I received my 1911 rifle model in a trade and unfortunately it was sporterized. I am looking to restore a little piece of history. Please help. Thank you
Hey man, can you make a Ljungman video? I know IV8888 and a few others made a video, but it would be really cool if we could hear your opinion. Especially since you sounded really passionate about it with Erik when you mentioned that it is one of your favorite rifles.
Military Arms Channel Then it would be PERFECT! You could show the evolution of the ljungman design. They are soaring in price. They range from $1,200-1,800. So I bought one recently and am having troubles finding ammunition. Perhaps you could explain how to feed the rifle without reloading. Thanks brother!
I love my K31 walnut stock and i plan on keeping it. Better get more GP11 ammo now since there's probably gonna be a run on it now after this video haha
U.s. special operations looking to move some of their rifles into 6.5 creedmoore . very cool good amount more range and less windrift for Afghanistan and beyond. Wonder if theyll make a 6.5 with a A1 type projectile. Idk how set in stone it is. Or if its fake news or old news haha
convex I heard the same news too but the issue I find is are they testing different barrel lengths? From what I've heard of the 6.5 creedmore is it's performance depends on a 20" or 24" barrel any shorter than that ballistics and trejectory suffer due to lack of velocity. Who knows it may cause the military to adopt bullpups to maintain barrel length but they handle different cost more to make and are generally not southpaw/weak side friendly
Its interesting how you have different amo than we here in germany, from a sealent standpoint on the bullet. We just have a standart strong krimp on the bullet.
I'm in the midst of a dilemna : in my club two fellow shooters sell their milsurp rifle : an Italian 1943 Carcano modello 38 per cavalleria for 370€ and a Swiss Schmidt Rubin K11 of 1917 for 385€ (it's in € i'm in Europe, and I know milsurp rifles here are way more expensive than in the US market). I'm not rich and can't afford to buy both, Which one would you buy ?
I love my K31. I just wish I could get some more GP11 for it. I'm down to my last 50 rounds. Can't find it on stock anywhere the last couple times I've looked
I compared GP11 and the PPU out of my K31 and 96/11 and both ammo types were consistent out of both rifles. The PPU was hitting slightly lower at 100 yards but all rounds were within a 1 MOA group for both rifles using both types of ammo. Each ammo type on its own was sub-MOA. Your rifles and results might vary but generally very similar results between GP11 and PPU so far in my experience. The slight differences between the ammo types will matter more at longer distances so just keep that in mind too.
I always love to watch these rifle. But there's some points I'd like to correct. The bolt changed on the G89/96, the locking lugs moved from the rear to the middle, and the bolt didn't change until the K31. The calibre changed on the G11 and K11, switching from GP90 [GP90/03 precisely] to GP11. The older G89/96 where then converted into G96/11, almost identical to the G11. And weak primary extraction ? Not on these straight pull. The locking lugs are angled for a reason, the primary extraction is very powerful on Schmidt and Furrer designs. The 1893 Cavalry Carbine is another story. It's a Mannlicher design, with no primary extraction. Check Bloke on the range channel and his video series on swiss straight pull, and swisswaffen.com for more detailed photos of each guns
Nick J you really can't find them for cheap in that condition. I'm guessing today's market it would be in the $500-600 MAX. I got mine for $480 but not in that condition it's a bit worn but my is a little rare being a 1900 shortrifle converted to a k11.
Thanks Miguel, I figure they would probably be a little more expensive in that condition. The surplus rifles seem to be gaining in popularity and nice ones are going to cost us a little more !
Quick question about the K11/K31, do they hold on to the lip of the cartridge as the bolt cycles (a la Gewehr 98), or do they only push the cartridge in and have an ejector on the face of the bolt (a la Remington 700)?
While the K31s are worth more now and more sought after, it's the K11s and G11s that are going to be worth more in the future. They made a lot of K31s, but no where near as many K11s and not many G11s at all. Those are the ones that will be super collectable, especially ones that haven't been messed with. So many Swiss rifles have had their stocks sanded or had the dents steamed out. They don't look right.
Peter Averink please don't. If something breaks it will be hard to get parts for and they also didn't make a 1 million k11 or k31 so it's not like a Mosin. Many have been destroy, sporterized and so on. No reason to do that when the Swiss did there own test.
It's the same mic we've used for years. We went to a lav mic a few weeks ago because people were saying the audio of the gun fire was blowing their ears out when wearing headsets.
That extraction was so positive that it cured my depression
Hey Tim
Thank you so much for this video.

Andy R. Everything Swiss made is worth its weight in gold
I agree it's nice to learn about all the different military rifles and whatever else he may show us. And their enthusiasm is contagious.
MAC don't look like much, actually he looks a little rough and disreputable, but his speaking skills are top drawer.
Talk away, Sir.
Where did he get the swiss ammo?
Is there a scope mount/base for the swiss 7.5 mm? The carbine model 1911??
Can't wait to get it in a few weeks.
good advice, lol
@@A.Chp-Schweppes I thought it was. lol. Worked out for both of us.
That's a very satisfying sound from each shot fired.
Love my k31, shooting that surplus ammo in it is a dream
Anybody can shoot guns, but it's the talking parts that make us endeared to a particular channel. The Military Arms Channel is the perfect blend of pew pew and conversation.
Thank you, it really means a lot.
Best MAC episode ever. I'm still waiting for my K31, so this was an absolute treat! The new microphone is great.
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Look under the buttplate.
I picked up a k31 it has a tag with the name year and address of the previous holder of the rifle.
oldredcoonhound I got a k11 and k31 but no troop tag sadly.
Just checked my K11 and sure enough there was a tag with a name and year.
I had a 1945 K31 that had 2...same name but one from tank div and one for motorcycle div with later date.
The Sound it makes when You cycle it is just amazing!
Shot this in germany. One of the Best rifles i've ever fired.
Ya gotta love these Swiss rifles/carbine's. Nice shooting guns for sure! I have a K-31 and it is as good as you're showing it here.
They are amazing rifles for sure.
That seasoned lefty knew to move his thumb while cycling. I llearned the hard way on that with my father's k31.
Look closely, you will see his left thumb bleeding towards the end of the video. 😀
I just bought the K1911 carbine from Cabela's, shipping to me soon.
Such a great looking rifle. The Swiss craftsmanship is superb, just like their watches.
Hey! Connor is finally in a video....he was the one who sold me my Rex Zero 1 T. Very good guy.
i handled one of these rifles, and it was my first experience with a straight pull bolt. i wish i bought the rifle.
Just bought an 1896/11 from Classic Firearms. Thanks for the video, I've been looking for a good video on the 1911 pattern rifles.
I’m glad you got one! You’ll love it.
Military Arms Channel are there any weird things I should watch out for?
LOVE my K31, so dam well built !!!
I was lucky and got one of the ones with matching serial number bayonet from Classic. My only disappointment was no troop tag (my K31 didn't have one either).
I didn't act fast enough!
Milsurp Mike Channel same here. I got a k31 and a k11 but no troop.
ritterbruder212 I got a spare. Rare to get original ones again. The metal one should do you fine. Also we you replace the nob check for rust. My replacement handle had a lot of small pitting. You want to get that off.

Love mine 1911 rifle. Beyond laser iron site works of art.
Videos like this are why Gun Drama Johnny is scared of you Tim. :) I’ve never fired a straight pull action like that either. Now I must!!
He better make fun of me, damn it!
If only gp11 was more available....it's unobtainium right now
You should do a reliability test for common compact/carry handguns! Such as the Glock 43 and M&P Shield and maybe even the new P365.
Absolutely the Rolex of bolt rifles. And yes, everything about them demands you do your part, no halfway measures. That was the mindset of the Swiss, at that point in time. Recoil is authoritative, as are my Mosins, no lightweights allowed.

Neat video guys. I don't know much about those old Swiss rifles. The carbines look like they recoil just as hard or harder than Mosins do.
Was I the only one that jumped when the k31 fell over when he was loading it.lol.. those rifles are in great shape very nice
You don't talk to much it always good to learn more
Thank you. 👍
I got my e-mail and my 1911 I should be able to pick up tomorrow...Can't find any GP 11 ammo though so I had to settle for some Privi?...The blue box stuff..
If you reload the Privi is better, GP11 is berdan primed and not easily reloaded.
Ian Phillips that sucks cause gp11 brass is so nice.

Nice rifles! Thanks for sharing them :)
Thank you for watching!
I've got a " Bubbized" K11, shorten stock, barrel and changed to .308 Win.
Where do you attach the 30 magazine clip in half a second?
Is that the 30 caliber magazine clip?
MasterSgtSlappy bahaha
On the gust ghun, of course!
Touay it fires 300 rounds/second
I'm a lefty that owns a k11 and I've never hurt myself on it... :P
Wow nice stock on he G11. If I could own only one rifle. It would be my K11. Probably not practical because of ammo but who cares. Sold my K31 and bought another K11. I just like them better.
Very sweet old firearms. What type of velocity does that rifle with that ammo achieve
Yep I just LOVE this rifle!
The barrels are in good shape. The swiss didn't use corrosive ammo starting in 1911.
Best sub 400$ bolt milsurp in my opinion. Got my K11 from classic too. Very happy with it! Plan on hunting whitetail with it this winter.
Nice!!
400 USD?!?
I bought three in 2010 for 240 Swiss Francs with bajonett.
Here in Switzerland the offering price is still at the most 250 Francs, today about 275 USD (December 2023 rate).
Nice guns, good design.
Military Arms Channel
But which model did you prefer?...myself I prefer the 1911 rifle over the K31.... ergonomic just seems better.
Tim, you don’t talk too much at all. But Eric (IQ8888).....wow! I use the ‘fast forward’ a LOT. Lol
I thought I heard you say that you can’t reload the brass? If so, I’m curious why. I have a K1911 that was converted into a carbine and I reload for it. Mass production really keeps the cost down as well as contracts to the manufacturer.
StPaul76 I heard if you had made a Swiss rifle today it would cost $2000-$3000 or what a k31 "sniper" variant is worth.
When you turn the bolt on a regular bolt action you're kinda helping the case ease out of the chamber. With these you just yank straight back. (No quotation marks as I'm not sure I've got him verbatim)
OK so you're yanking straight back but as you still have locking lugs to disengage then surely the end of the bolt with the ejector on still turns?
Cool stuff
Alaskan Ballistics no shit I want one now
You got a new microphone? sounds great!
Finally a recording of a gunshot that isn't compressed to death by insufficient dynamic range!
Definitely sounds like it wants to kill.
Love the k31
What is the difference, if any, between the K1911 and the M1911? Thanks!
I should. I have one. I have the Hakim and Rasheed too.
Me I like the full size G1911, unless I have to sling it on my shoulder for 8 miles. Add your bayonet and it is a very long arm.
What's that bag you're using as a rest? Looks awesome!
It’s a local guy that made it for me and he doesn’t have a website!
Yep that's it, I'm buying one
Very cool video!!!
U.s. special operations looking to move some of their rifles into 6.5 creedmoore . very cool good amount more range and less windrift for Afghanistan and beyond.
Daniel J Call good point. 6.5 creed needs those long barrels to really gain advantage when reaching out there over the nato round
those are some beautiful rifles.
Its interesting how you have different amo than we here in germany, from a sealent standpoint on the bullet. We just have a standart strong krimp on the bullet.
I’ve seen it with the wax and without.
इस राईफल की रेज कितनी है कितने मिटर पर गोली जाती है बताओ मुझे जरूर बताओ जी
I also got a 1911 long from classic also. Love it
Great score!
Need to get the repairs done on my 1911 at some point
Very cool rifles!
I wonder what it would cost to produce one of these today?
Love all the videos👍
Thank you!
No problem. Wish you luck with all troubles✌
Man that shooting sound.
75 F is a cool day? It doesn't want to go over 55F in Ireland - and that's on an amazingly sunny day :(
were there ever any swiss K sniper rifles maid I think the straight bolt with the mag feed would of been a great pairing for a sniper role
I love my K31. I just wish I could get some more GP11 for it. I'm down to my last 50 rounds. Can't find it on stock anywhere the last couple times I've looked
PPU is all that’s really available.
Where did you find all that GP11? I found ONE box at a gun show the other day.
Ok. Big question. What’s your preferred choice to fire at the range. Your K11 or M48?
I love that action..got to find a good deal somewhere. Don't have a lot of money.
In Switzerland it's about 200-400 CHF in good tovery good condition
any idea what would happen if you shot a 7.5 x 54 french round out of a k11 or k31?
Is there anyway possible you can do an in depth review on the FIGHTLITE raider, po please???? No one On the internet has one out.
And now we shoot that 150 yard target... boom! And my ears start to ring...
Those are beautiful guns, how expensive is the rifle ? It looks to be in very good condition !
Nick J milsurp of any kind are on the rise. Buy something you ways wanted now because they aren't getting cheaper.
In Switzerland 200-400 CHF in good-very good condition
Hey MAC, do you still have the registered M16 lower? Need an update vid if you do!
MAC - those cartridges sounded very heavy -what is the calibre again?
if they got streight pul you are a good part on the way to a self loader.
It would be cool to have some 10 round magazines made. Maybe?
Would you do a review of the Taurus TH9?
Would be cool to do a gauntlet test with these guns. From ww1 and later one from ww2.
Peter Averink please don't. If something breaks it will be hard to get parts for and they also didn't make a 1 million k11 or k31 so it's not like a Mosin. Many have been destroy, sporterized and so on. No reason to do that when the Swiss did there own test.
Have you changed any of your equipment?
The audio on the video sounds better than I remember from your channel.
It's the same mic we've used for years. We went to a lav mic a few weeks ago because people were saying the audio of the gun fire was blowing their ears out when wearing headsets.
Just ordered mine
