You know when you hear that thumping music and the water cooled machine with the jumping ammo belt, you've gone back to the early days of the channel lol
Interesting. I like how intrusive the scope is. I wonder why the idea never caught on. If they were able to reduce the manufacturing cost and time, it would had been great for such a scope to be on a standard infantry rifle. I like the simple range adjustment as well. In fact, this gives me some interesting scope mounting ideas...to the work shop!
I bought a K31 a few months ago from Simpson ironically. Never really knew about this RUclips channel and its wild I essentially bought a rifle from them
I love the k31 7.5X55 is an outstanding round surplus is not your typical surplus ammo and the price is more than reasonable the mechanism is brilliant the rifles are on the heavy side nice recoil accurate and they look like they shoot awesome
Interesting video and thanks for showing the Reticule through the scope. The MG42 German optical sight also had just a plain inverted V minus the horizontal bars. At least the one in a military museum in Warminster Wiltshire , England did. I am not sure the public have open access though.
Neat guns! Thanks for showing them to us. I wonder if the 2.8/700 meter change might have been a result of a reduced field of view due to the higher magnification. It's possible that they couldn't get 1000 meters of vertical.
I would like to see a video on the Swiss Schmidt Rubin 1889. I have one in my gun case that my great grandfather had for moose hunting. It was sporterized and rechambered for 30-30. lovely gun with a lot of patina. needs some TLC.
djsnowman06 I have a sporterized one too, I don't normally like sporter milsurps but mine is really nicely done and it's still chambered for the original round.
I guess they didn't change the effective range because it wasn't practical to shoot that far, but because they used the same mechanics as in the other scope. The lever for the elevation adjustment stayed the same whereas the scope had higher magnification, therefore the same lever didn't change the elevation as much as it did with the lower magnification scope. But that's just a guess (from an engineer) :)
I just wanted to make a comment on this after (re-)watching the video. When scrolling down to see if somebody else commented on that, I realized it was me who did 4 years ago and I totally forgot about it, haha :)
My Father bought one, and a younger man (at the time) won a raffle for it, 2 had "beat up" stocks. One didn't even have a stock, and the other wasn't rotting, but incredibly beat up, my dad got the one with the stock.
In regards to the elevation adjustment, I'd assume they used the same mechanism for both scopes, but since the magnification was higher it didn't "elevate" to as far out of a range.
This gun looks like something that could have filled a role that would be allot like a designated marksman in modern times had the swiss actually seen combat in ww2.
Nice video thanks! Scope was not great on these concept ones finally but the basic rifles are still used today, still working perfectly and super accurate, even used in competition! C.
this is one superb weapon, have a friend who has a regular k 31, it shoots very accurately he paid around $450.00 for it which now im told is quite a steal he found the guys name it was issued to under the butt plate, very smooth action, which for some upon looking at it they would think it was a "CLUNKY" action?rifle but really is not i love how the Swiss prided themselves upon not using corrosive ammo, and the Swiss Mil surplus ammo made by "RUAG" is of excellent quality and reliability there is another variant with a cut down stock and has a flash hidder, i dont remember the designation for it but it is the most handsome of the k31 variant IMHO EDIT >>> i see Ian you did a review on the ZFK55 that's the one im talking about i have hunted with SPRINGFIELDS,CARCANOS,MAUSERS,ENFIELDS AND MOSINS and of the many more Bolt action rifle i would not mind owning and taking out hunting this one gets to honors!! Thanks Ian great Video!! your friend Joe
yeah i figure as much, it did seem like quire alot of dough to put out even for a well made rifle such as that, oh well what can ya do? hes 22 and not gonna listen to me anyway LOL thanks your friend Joe
One of these was actually the first rifle I've got to fire! Not quite an appropriate gun for a beginner, but my first grouping wasn't too bad! I've got a video of that, so anyone who's interested feel free to reply to this.
Have you made a video about the regular K31? I'd love to see how one strips down and functions, I'm planning on getting one in the near future. Thanks, Thomas in Switzerland
My K31 was the most accurate military weapon I have owned. Using the "good" ammo one could keep 5 shots on a playing card at 100 yards with the factory iron sights. Ammo is like finding hen's teeth nowadays, and expensive as heck, so it got sold. I enjoyed it while I owned it.
With the low magnification, wouldn't this have been perfect for regular riflemen? Since it's assuring to reduce your profile while prone but you can still use the gun's primary sights when standing.
Since the scope wasn't on the rifle's centerline - - was the point of impact 3/4" to the left of 'X' regardless of the range - or was the scope zeroed for a specific range and the sniper did a mental calculation?
I was looking at this video because i was looking up a bayonet that a dead friend of ours carried, had a matching bayonet for this rifle. Maybe one day ill get the rifle, hopefully the price doesnt go up because of Warzone featuring the gun...
The fact that Switzerland was able to remain neutral and not be drawn into the maelstrom that was the Second World War is perhaps the greatest testimony to the quality of their armed forces & weaponry.
"A very small scope like this is not practical out to 1000 meters" but yet most other guns of this time period had iron sights that went out to 2000 meters and beyond... I LOVE old guns.🤣
K.C. Rigney He was terribly afraid of having his position blown almost to the point of paranoia, which likely did save his life considering how much the USSR hunted for him specifically. He refused the sights because of glare, and the cold would fog or add ice buildup. Simo stuffed snow in his mouth to avoid his breath becoming even more visible in dropping temperatures, and often sniped at night. Actually he had some advantages from doing night time, because the climate had less population and better visibility, there was virtually no glare from his position, but scopes from the enemy at night became even more pronounced because of that same visibility from lack of pollution. A lot of the russians were poorly equipped during the war, so they had to set up fires to keep warm and that just made his targets even easier.
Yes. Any cartridge issued to any current military will be a sealed, self contained cartridge. Moreover, gunpowder contains all the chemicals required to burn, they do not need oxygen from the outside to ignite. A vacuum will have no affect on firing a single cartridge. More so, due to the way that gas operated firearms work, in that the bullet forms a seal in the barrel as they operate, any rifle would be capable of cycling and firing continuously. Blowback operation is through simple inertia and also is unaffected by a vacuum.
EDSKaR In fact, the less oxygen the better. If you burn powder in air, it's 'easier' for the chemical reaction to take the oxygen from the air - but this makes the burn inefficient, it's very slow and leaves lots of soot. Mind blow #23245: The Soviets launched satellites equipped with 23mm cannon, and these were fired in orbit.
Jay Leno They probably thought about potential self-defense, but there's a few reasons to believe their main intent was testing. Accurate to 3000m apparently.
+M W If you are talking about 7.5x55 Swiss common 7.62 cal bullets will work just fine if you reload. Also Priv Partison, Grafs, and Hornaday make loaded ammunition in 7.5x55 Swiss. Readily available online.

Aaah, it just isn't the same without it!
I most certainly agree.
Every time a new gun comes to bf5, videos from this channel become my recommended
I found out about this gun on world of guns but when i saw it in bf5 i had to get it
This will be recommended for every call of duty player this week
Not if I look it up on my own 😎
Can't wait
With This video I am sure I've seen every single forgotten weapons. This channel is so awesome, Thanks for all the great videos!
I love this channel, it so accurately and clearly presents and explains the function and works of these beautiful weapons.
These videos make my freaking day.
Wow, such a cool piece of swiss craftsmanship! I would love to have one, but $4k....ouch!
Great video as always

Web gear, web gear, sniper rifles, pool cues, army helmets. Who in the hell is in charge of organizing merchandise
Well, nobody with OCD, that's for sure.
It looks like he is reviewing the firearms on the staffs pool table! Which could explain the cues.

Was that a cue clue?
I was watching your channel just yesterday and was thinking when you're going to do a video about a K31. Funny stuff...
Just passing by from Battlefield and Warzone

Glad that you fixed the intro volume. Great video!
This video is about to get a bunch more views.

Ian, the K-31 is my Favorited Cheap hunting rifle Well Made and straight shooter..
Came here after seeing it would be added to cold war. Actually learnt a lot about the gun. Thanks for the info

Some of the coolest things come from Switzerland.
Just bought a K31, good stuff, thanks for lessons 👍👍

fantastic, spectacular 31/42 rifle k, your videos are great, I live in BRAZIL and do not have access to the rifle. Thank you

Remember when Forgotten Weapons had an intro?
I would love one of these as hunting or practice models. You don't need all that strong a scope for recreational use.
+V Guyver The standard K31 can be fitted with a clamp on scope mount which seems to work.
Garrett Evans Indeed it can.
the most versatile single bolt action rifle in bf5, pretty sure it was not intended as regular sniper rifle
The damage is weird and the Iron sights too. It takes some getting used to. At least for me
Anyone else notice how this gun in battlefield the cocking ring disappears when you pull the trigger?
no
Another great vid. But there's a typo in your title. It should read "Swiss K31/42", not Swiss 41/42. Keep up the good work!
nice rifles i love that straight pull bolt
would love to have one!
That's a pretty tiny scope, but I guess a tiny 2.8x scope is better than just iron sights in some circumstances.
My Father bought one, and a younger man (at the time) won a raffle for it, 2 had "beat up" stocks. One didn't even have a stock, and the other wasn't rotting, but incredibly beat up, my dad got the one with the stock.

came here after bf5 leaks, nice content sir.
cant wait for this and M917. i hope they can include the m1903 springfield in Chapter 5

My load out now to time travel is the Schwarlose 1898 and the K38 rifles.
My K31 was the most accurate military weapon I have owned. Using the "good" ammo one could keep 5 shots on a playing card at 100 yards with the factory iron sights.

You should talk them into letting you do a 2-gun match with one of these :D
Nice and as with swiss not a lot of wear I would be tempted to restore the stock because of the non war thing
Hello Ian I was wondering if you knew what the k+ marking means on a k31 rifle I can't find anything online
With the low magnification, wouldn't this have been perfect for regular riflemen? Since it's assuring to reduce your profile while prone but you can still use the gun's primary sights when standing.
too expensive.

Forgotten Weapons ok
I couldn't look down the rifle without giggling.
The M21 is perhaps not forgotten but is never reviewed. Why so?
The k31 were carbines not technically rifles, it was my grandfathers when he was in the Swiss army during WW2
"A very small scope like this is not practical out to 1000 meters" but yet most other guns of this time period had iron sights that went out to 2000 meters and beyond... I LOVE old guns.🤣
A perfect optic for Simo Häyhä because he used iron-sights to avoid having to expose his head too much.
I believe he stated glare from the sun and fogging were other contributors for him going all iron.
K.C. Rigney That actually makes a lot of sense too
K.C. Rigney He was terribly afraid of having his position blown almost to the point of paranoia, which likely did save his life considering how much the USSR hunted for him specifically.

That's not paranoia, it's prudence. The Russians really were out to zap him if they could.
Fun rifles to shoot though.
Do the two scopes have interchangable parts?
So, what caliber do those pool sticks fire?
+Haphazardization 7.5x55 Swiss
Garrett Evans A Swiss chambered billiards stick? Guess they are expanding their interests.
I was just looking at these on the Simpson website and wanted to learn more about em n came here

Gun question: Would modern stranded issue military ammunition be able to fire in a vacuum?
