Is it okay to play the "melody lines" with the i or m fingers instead of going all the way down with the thumb? This is one of the my studies for Level 7 RCM.
Gohar, question. if you played the treble note with the thumb, then it sounds totally different than what is written. Because now the treble note you played with the thumb will become the melody of the base, then you have an extra base notes.
How Wong I see those as two melodies having a conversation between them, so the moving line on the 2nd string and then bass, than the 2nd string then bass... etc... the repeated E string is the accompaniment. And even when I don’t use my thumb on the 2nd string towards the end, I still try to bring those notes out.
I really enjoy your interpretation of this Gohar, so much that I’m learning it at the moment. One problem I have is dampening the low E so as not to ring over the other bass notes. It’s obviously possible to use the right thumb to mute the E after you play the next note but really hard at a fast tempo. Do you have a way of getting rid of that E or do you let it ring?
Gohar is a fantastic teacher. Her lessons helps me to practice to relearn and refine techniques for accuracy and perfection
